In general, comic books have not paid nearly enough attention to people of color. Even when a Black super hero did exist, they didn&#39;t get the exposure they deserved. The best Black superheroes are every bit as iconic, interesting, and emotionally compelling as their peers.&nbsp;In fact, Black Panther&nbsp;in particular has been a consistently strong book over the years that will no doubt provide a lot of great material for a ton of films down the line. Static has not only gotten his own cartoon, but an incredibly loyal cult following. When Superman died, Steel was one of the only people who stepped up to take his place that didn&#39;t have some horrific ulterior motive waiting in the wings that could spell doom for the planet Earth. When the mantle of Ultimate Spider-Man was passed from Peter Parker to Miles Morales, the character blossomed and became arguably more beloved than his predecessor. &nbsp;

Even despite these triumphs, Black characters still haven&#39;t gotten the time of day they deserve. Ask most people to name a few Black super heroes and you probably will get a list with maybe three names. The good news is recent films, comics, and TV shows are really pushing their Black characters the way they always deserved. We&#39;re seeing &nbsp;new exposure for characters like Black Panther getting his own film in the Marvel cinematic universe, Luke Cage on Netflix, and Cyborg in the Justice League movie. While it was great to have Wesley Snipes as Blade have his own film series, we&#39;re glad to see new <a href="/list/best-black-superhero-movies/ranker-film/" target="_blank">Black superhero movies</a>&nbsp;filling the ranks. &nbsp;

But let&#39;s not forget how much farther we have to go. The length of this list proves there are a ton of Black superheroes that could make their debuts in television and movies. The Spectre could make a great on screen presence. Spawn deserves a better film than his 90s misfire, and with the advances in special effects and storytelling available today we could get something very special for fans of his book in addition to new audiences. Superheroes

There are a lot of superheroes who are strong, but what about the ones who are too strong? Publishers have attempted to add diversity and &ldquo;fresh ideas&rdquo; to their comic book universes by replacing their most popular heroes with younger and more diverse vigilantes. In fact, there&#39;s a&nbsp;rare handful of second generation superheroes who are actually better than the originals. It&#39;s not easy to replace a legendary hero,&nbsp;but as the following characters can attest to, it is doable. Given that most well-known villains have been around for decades in the real world&nbsp;but are still relatively young in the comic timelines, the storytelling logic behind their kids -&nbsp;especially those that are already fully grown -&nbsp;can get tricky. Fortunately, comics are also rife with anti-aging spells, time travel, and other such gimmicks that can get around any chronological issues, leaving fans free to focus on all that juicy family drama.

Marvel’s Star-Lord&nbsp;rocketed from obscurity into worldwide stardom, in part due to the popularity and uniqueness of hybrid superheroes in comics. In both the comics and the films, Peter Quill is&nbsp;half-human and half-alien, and only&nbsp;one of dozens of hybrid characters in comics&nbsp;today. Despite what basic biology has to say about breeding hybrids, interspecies hookups apparently happen all the time in the world of spandex and supervillains, and they almost always result in crimefighting children. Their s<a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/superheroes-with-children/chinofernandez">uperhero parents</a> must be so proud.The backstories of these half-human heroes&nbsp;always get interesting, largely&nbsp;due to the fact they’re guaranteed to have at least one non-human parent. Whether they’re half-space alien like Star-Lord or have a parent who lives under the sea like Aquaman and Namor, most hybrid characters receive amazing powers from their dual heritage. More often than not, these mashup beings end up embracing their human half and fighting to defend the people of Earth because, apparently, humans are&nbsp;just that charming.

Like it or not, the British have been some of the most important players in world affairs for hundreds of years, and if comics have anything to say about it that won't be going away any time soon. The best British superheroes exemplify all the traits that make their country great: fortitude, intelligence, and the need to be right about everything. Some British heroes are so transparent in their patriotism it's almost comical. Captain Britain and Union Jack especially are essentially walking British flags that eliminate crime and flaunt their super powers. It's easy to think all British super heroes would be so blatant, but that isn't always the case.In fact, many British characters you've read on the page you probably didn't know were actually British in origin. Psylocke, for example, started out as a supporting character in Captain Britain's adventures before having her mind transferred to the body of a Japanese ninja. Even Blade, a character many associate with America, was actually born in Britain under the horrible circumstances that led to his condition as a &quot;Daywalker.&quot;The X-Men also love their heroes from the U.K., with&nbsp;Banshee, Pixie, Chamber, Meggan, and Moira Mactaggert all hailing from oversees and playing in&nbsp;important roles in the hardships mutants everywhere have faced. Also, while he originated in books, the famous British hero Alan Quartermain was central to Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, one of his most celebrated works. Astonishing X-Men writer Warren Ellis also created Jenny Sparks for The Authority. Jenny was not only as British as they come, but also the leader of the team and defender of the planet. And let's not forget John Constantine, who is the most beloved supernatural detective this on side of existence. Magneto

Magneto is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, commonly in association with the X-Men. He has been the primary villain in the X-Men comics, although, he has been an occasional ally and even a member of the X-Men at times. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the character first appears in The X-Men #1.
A powerful mutant with the ability to generate and control magnetic fields, Magneto desired mutants to eventually dominate the human race as he viewed humans as an outdated species that no longer deserves its continual domination over the world. Writers have since fleshed out his character and origin, revealing him to be a Holocaust survivor whose actions are driven by the purpose of protecting the mutant race from suffering a similar fate. His role in comics has varied from supervillain to antihero to superhero. He was once a friend of Professor X, leader of the X-Men, but their different philosophies caused a rift in their friendship.
His character's early history has been compared with the civil rights leader Malcolm X and Jewish Defense League founder Meir Kahane.

Apocalypse, also known as En Sabah Nur or "The First One", is a fictional supervillain that appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is an immortal mutant and is usually portrayed as one of the main antagonists of the X-Men. Created by writer Louise Simonson and artist Jackson Guice, Apocalypse first appeared in X-Factor #5.
Since his introduction, the character has appeared in a number of X-Men titles including spin-offs and several limited series. The character has also been featured in associated Marvel merchandise including animated television series, feature films, toys, trading cards, and games. He is portrayed by Brendan Pedder in the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Oscar Isaac will portray him in the 2016 sequel X-Men: Apocalypse.

Juggernaut is a fictional supervillain and sometime antihero that appears in publications published by Marvel Comics. The character, who first appeared in X-Men #12, was created by writer Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby.
Since his debut during the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character has appeared in over four decades of Marvel publications, featuring prominently in the X-Men titles and starring in two one-shot solo publications. Sabretooth

Sabretooth is a fictional Marvel Comics supervillain created by writer Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer John Byrne. The character first appeared in Iron Fist #14. Originally portrayed as a non-powered serial killer, Sabretooth is later written as a mutant who possesses bestial superhuman abilities, most notably a rapid healing factor, razor-sharp fangs and claws, and superhuman senses. He is a vicious assassin responsible for numerous deaths both as a paid mercenary and for his personal pleasure.
The character Wolverine is depicted as his long-time enemy, although conflicting accounts have been given as to the origin of their feud. It is also known that he and Sabretooth were victims of the Cold War supersoldier program Weapon X, and that Sabretooth saw Wolverine as competition and tried to make his life miserable. While Wolverine is depicted as suppressing his more savage qualities, Sabretooth does the opposite and embraces them.
Sabretooth has appeared in several X-Men animated series and video games. Played by Tyler Mane, he was a henchman of Magneto in the first X-Men film and X-Men: The Official Game. Liev Schreiber plays him in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Onslaught

Onslaught is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in cameo X-Man #15, his first full appearance in X-Men vol. 2, #53. Onslaught was co-created by writers Scott Lobdell, Mark Waid, and artist Andy Kubert. Onslaught was a sentient psionic entity created from the consciousness of two mutants: Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto. During a battle between the X-Men and Magneto's Acolytes, Professor Xavier used his telepathic powers to shut down Magneto's mind, rendering him catatonic, but the darkest aspect of Magneto's mind escaped into Xavier's subconscious, where it 'merged' with Xavier's own darker nature to eventually grow into a separate persona of its own.
The character of Onslaught has also been featured in video games and toy merchandise.

William Stryker

Colonel William "Bill" Stryker, M.D. is a fictional comic book supervillain in the Marvel Comics universe, and enemy of the X-Men.
In the film X2, Stryker is played by Brian Cox as a U.S. Army Colonel with a fervent desire to harvest mutants for weapons to take down potential mutant threats, such as Magneto. Danny Huston portrays Stryker in the superhero prequel movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine in which he is the villainous leader of the Weapon X project. Josh Helman portrays a much younger Stryker in X-Men: Days of Future Past. In 2009, Stryker was named IGN's 70th Greatest Villain of All Time.

Sebastian Shaw

Sebastian Hiram Shaw is a fictional character, a supervillain who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was frequently an adversary of the X-Men.
A mutant, Shaw possesses the ability to absorb energy and transform it into raw strength. He is the leader of the New York branch of the Hellfire Club, an exclusive secret society bent on world domination, although to the public, he is a legitimate businessman and ordinary human. He once funded the mutant-hunting Sentinel program to keep it under his thumb. In 2009, Shaw was named IGN's 55th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time. Kevin Bacon played the character in X-Men: First Class.

Blob

The Blob is a Marvel Comics supervillain, an adversary of the X-Men. A mutant originally depicted as an obese circus freak, the Blob claims to be immovable. He possesses an extreme amount of pliable body mass, which grants him superhuman strength. Possessing the mindset of a bully, he mostly uses his powers for petty crime and as a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants and Freedom Force.
He is one of the most prominent, long-running mutants to be depowered as a result of the Decimation storyline.
The Blob appears in the 2009 superhero film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he is played by actor Kevin Durand.

Wanda Maximoff is a fictional character, whose code name is Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Mojo

Mojo is a fictional character, a super villain appearing in books published by Marvel Comics, usually those featuring the X-Men family of characters. Created by writer Ann Nocenti and artist Arthur Adams, Mojo first appeared in Longshot #4, as the titular hero's archvillain. When Longshot later joined the superteam the X-Men, Mojo became a recurring villain to those characters as well.
Mojo is one of the "Spineless Ones," an alien race that is immobile without advanced technology. He is a slaver who rules the Mojoverse, a dimension where all beings are addicted to his gladiator-like television programs. The character is an absurdist parody of network executives, and was created as a result of the influence of writers like Marshall McLuhan, Noam Chomsky and Walter Lippmann on Nocenti.

Lady Deathstrike

Lady Deathstrike, occasionally spelled "Deathstryke", is a fictional Marvel Comics supervillain, a foe of the X-Men, especially Wolverine.
Her father Lord Dark Wind created the adamantium-bonding process that was forced on Wolverine by Weapon X. A self-styled warrior, Lady Deathstrike hired the villain Spiral’s "body shoppe" to bond adamantium to her own skeleton in addition to other cyber-genetic enhancements. She has since worked as a mercenary and assassin and feels a need to prove herself by killing Wolverine.
A mutant version of Lady Deathstrike, played by Kelly Hu and without any of Deathstrike's backstory, appeared as a brainwashed henchwoman of William Stryker in the 2003 film X2: X-Men United. She also re-appeared in X-Men: The Official Game, where she was revealed to be Silver Samurai's apprentice. In 2009, Lady Deathstrike was ranked as IGN's 78th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.

Spiral

Spiral is a fictional comic book supervillainess appearing in books published by Marvel Comics, usually those featuring Longshot or the X-Men. Created by writer Ann Nocenti and artist Art Adams, she first appeared in Longshot #1, in which she was established as a lieutenant for that titular character's archenemy, Mojo. When Longshot later joined the X-Men, Spiral became a recurring adversary of that team as well.

Toad

Toad is a fictional supervillain appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is most often depicted as an enemy of the X-Men, and was originally a weak, hunchbacked mutant, with a superhuman leaping ability. He was Magneto's sniveling servant in the 1960s line-up of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. He eventually led his own version of the Brotherhood, which was more involved in petty crime than mutant liberation.
Ray Park played a significantly different version of Toad in 2000's X-Men film. He was cocky and sarcastic and his superhuman leaping ability, agility, toxic saliva, prehensile tongue and wall-scaling abilities made him a match for several X-Men. Aspects of this Toad have since been implemented into the comic book version. Subsequently, most versions of Toad written or drawn after 2000 resemble the Ray Park version more closely than the original Toad. A younger Toad appears in the film X-Men: Days of Future Past, played by Evan Jonigkeit.

Quicksilver

Quicksilver is a fictional superhero appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appears in X-Men #4 and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. He is the twin brother of the Scarlet Witch and the son of Magneto as well as the paternal half-brother of Polaris.
Debuting in the Silver Age of comic books, Quicksilver has featured in several decades of Marvel continuity, starring in the self-titled series Quicksilver and as a regular team member in superhero title the Avengers. The character has also appeared in other Marvel-related media and merchandise.
In 2006, IGN named Quicksilver #23 on their list of "The Top 25 X-Men Of All Time" commenting that "Quicksilver was the shining example of a villain turned good."

Master Mold

Master Mold is a fictional character, a robot supervillain in the Marvel Universe. Since his primary purpose was to act as a portable Sentinel-creating factory, and the Sentinel robots were primarily used to hunt mutants, Master Mold has almost exclusively appeared in the X-Men and related, mutant-themed, comic books.

A Cretan mutant, Avalanche possesses the ability to generate seismic waves from his hands that are strong enough to create earthquakes of varying sizes and to disintegrate any substance other than living tissue. He has been a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants and Freedom Force.
The animated series X-Men: Evolution portrays him as Lance Alvers, a misguided mutant teenager and one time romantic love interest of the X-Men's Shadowcat.
