Mixing elements of rock, most notably post-punk, indie and alternative rock with electronic dance music, alternative dance was a predominantly British-focused genre for its initial existence. This fusion of rock and dance music allowed for alternative dance music to become popular in the club and allowed it to reach a bigger audience. The beauty of alternative dance and the alternative dance music movement is that it spawned other subgenres, all of which remain popular today due to these alternative dance bands.
