This list looks at the best current television animated series that aired new episodes in 2021. The best animated series in 2021 included animated sitcoms, superhero cartoons, comedies, kids cartoons, and even new seasons and revivals of old favorites. Which were the best new and returning animated shows in 2021?

The best animated television series used their medium to its best effect and shows like Animaniacs or SpongeBob SquarePants has been defining cartoon silliness for years, while sci-fi series like Final Space used animation to tell stories in a world and with characters that would have be limited in a live-action show. Animated sitcoms remain some of the best animated series in 2021, and that of course includes Bob’s Burgers and Disenchantment. Other great animated series aired new episodes in 2021 inlcuded kids cartoons like The Casagrandes and Amphibia. But not all cartoons were for kids and several 2021 animated series were also adult animation series, like American Dad and Big Mouth.
