Revy from Black Lagoon&nbsp;became a mercenary after an encounter with the police taught her that the only person who was going to protect her was herself. Even&nbsp;Cells At Work&nbsp;uses this trope by making viewers cry their eyes out over the backstory of a cancer cell.&nbsp;

Fallen hero anime characters can be some of the most fascinating characters the anime world has to offer. They offer a glimpse into what creates a villain, and how the human psyche processes trauma. Be warned - some of these stories are pretty brutal.

While the stereotypical&nbsp;anime woman is&nbsp;small and dainty, there are a few who manage to break the mold. Some of the more&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/impressive-anime-physiques/anna-lindwasser?ref=profile_own" target="_blank">muscular</a> anime women could totally bench press anybody lucky (or unlucky) enough to share a gym with them. Most jacked anime women got that way because there's something they have to fight, such as Mikasa&nbsp;Ackerman, who kicks Titan butt every day. However, a select few just blast&nbsp;their abs for the heck of it.

The &quot;crazy/terrible girlfriend&quot; trope appears everywhere, including anime; while certainly an overused, and many times sexist, descriptor, such a characterization does feel appropriate when describing the worst anime girlfriends of all time. Given the number of <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/disturbing-romantic-anime-relationships/nida-sea" target="_blank">dysfunctional anime relationships</a> out there, it stands to reason a few terrible anime girlfriends are a part of them. While everyone follows different criteria for what they want from a partner, most&nbsp;agree that a few things are of critical importance when it comes to&nbsp;showing basic respect for your partner as a human being. Not manipulating them into doing things they don't want to do. Not cheating on them. Not stalking or assaulting them. Not murdering them.This an an extremely low bar, but sadly, there are plenty of anime girlfriends who can't manage even that much. Some are murderous stalkers like Yuno Gasai, and others are prone to physical violence&nbsp;like Naru Narusegawa.&nbsp;No matter how cute they appear, you definitely would not want any of these ladies as your girlfriend or your <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/anime-characters-you-want-to-marry/ranker-anime" target="_blank">wife</a>. That said, don't think that anime only makes the ladies look bad: plenty of <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/anime-protagonists-who-should-not-have-a-harem/anna-lindwasser" target="_blank">boring anime men</a> out there make for equally terrible boyfriends, and honestly, they're probably the reason why all these anime girlfriends are acting out.

Plenty of <a href="https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/my-top-10-favorite-anime-characters" target="_blank">anime characters</a> don't have sex –&nbsp;after all, a lot&nbsp;of it is aimed at <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-kids-anime-v1/ranker-anime" target="_blank">kids and teenagers</a>, and the series&nbsp;aimed at adults still doesn't usually get explicit. That said,&nbsp;it's pretty rare to come across a character who makes it clear that they aren't interested, and rarer still to find an anime character who actually identifies themselves as asexual.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexuality" target="_blank">Asexuality</a> refers to a lack of sexual attraction, or a low or nonexistent desire to engage in sexual activities. This is distinct from celibacy, which is a conscious decision to abstain from sex, despite the presence of sexual attraction. Asexuals can, and often&nbsp;do&nbsp;have sex. Sometimes, it's for procreation. Sometimes, it's for the same reason that people who aren't really into hiking will hit the trail with their significant other –&nbsp;they want to make the other person happy and participate in activities they enjoy. They can have romantic&nbsp;relationships –&nbsp;though <a href="https://asexualagenda.wordpress.com/2013/02/16/talking-about-asexuality-in-japanese/" target="_blank">in Japan</a>, the term &quot;asexual&quot; tends to refer to people who are both asexual&nbsp;and&nbsp;aromantic, while the term &quot;nonsexual&quot; means people who have relationships without sex.This list focuses on anime characters who are&nbsp;probably&nbsp;asexual, based on their behavior, their words, or what their creators have said about them.&nbsp;Because of said rarity,&nbsp;much of this is up for interpretation.The characters on this list exhibit a distinct lack of interest in sexual activity, but what that means about the character's sexuality isn't always clear - it's difficult to find confirmed asexual anime characters. Other characters like Rika Furude of&nbsp;Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni&nbsp;are forced to repeat the same terrible experiences on an endless loop. Others, like Ymir of&nbsp;Attack on Titan,&nbsp;lose&nbsp;their sense of self entirely. All of them suffer immeasurably, to the point where passing away would be a relief.&nbsp;

The fact that a character is featured on this list doesn&#39;t necessarily imply that they shouldn&#39;t be alive - and it&nbsp;definitely&nbsp;doesn&#39;t imply anything about people in the real world who might have gone through more realistic versions of some of these experiences. It just means that what these characters have endured&nbsp;is so horrible that most people would not be able to bear it.&nbsp;

For some unlucky anime characters, nothing ever seems to go right. Anime characters with bad luck have outrageously hard lives&nbsp;filled with seemingly endless misery. Many&nbsp;are characterized by their&nbsp;ill-fatedness, and a&nbsp;few are literal gods of misfortune who&nbsp;intentionally spread&nbsp;bad tidings. When properly executed, bad luck can add pathos and depth to a story;&nbsp;when done wrong, it can seem excessive and&nbsp;silly.&nbsp;

Anyone who has ever watched anime knows this archetype well: anime characters who just want a normal life. They range from reluctant heroes and heroines to everyday people who simply desire no fuss at all. Instead of great&nbsp;aspirations or big lofty dreams, anime heroes who don't want to be protagonists&nbsp;wish to be taken out of the spotlight and drama, preferably to a place where they can be left alone. It may sound like an oxymoron to create anime protagonists who don't like adventure, but the genre uses it as a means of making certain <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/the-top-most-badass-male-anime-characters/owilnic" target="_blank">anime characters look more badass</a>. Whether it's a kid who doesn't want anyone to know that he called himself &quot;Dark Flame Master&quot; in middle school, or a bunch of teenagers who join&nbsp;the military without mentioning to the higher-ups that they're actually man-eating monsters, anime characters with secrets have explosive plot potential.Tension builds quickly&nbsp;when viewers know a secret before the rest of the show's cast have any idea what's really going on.&nbsp;Other times, viewers are left in the dark, and get to react with the rest of the cast&nbsp;when the secret drops. No matter what, the unraveling of a juicy secret&nbsp;always makes for a good story.&nbsp;

Looks can be deceiving, and nothing proves that more than&nbsp;anime characters who are <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/strong-comic-book-characters-who-look-weak/stephanroget?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">stronger than they look</a>. These characters might appear to be cute, weak, or even straight-up ridiculous, but the last thing you want to do is get on their bad side.

Kakashi Hatake is a fictional character in the Naruto manga and anime series created by Masashi Kishimoto. Kishimoto originally planned to introduce Kakashi in the manga to the series' titular character, Naruto Uzumaki, early on, but pushed back this meeting so that Naruto's teammates could be better developed.
In the story, Kakashi is the leader and teacher of Team 7, consisting of the series' primary characters, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, and Naruto Uzumaki. He is initially portrayed as a detached and apathetic figure, but as the series progresses, his loyalty to his friends and students becomes increasingly apparent. Kakashi's past has been extensively explored in the series, resulting in a gaiden being devoted to his past experiences. Kakashi has appeared in several pieces of Naruto media, including six of the nine featured films in the series, all of the original video animations, and all of the video games.
Numerous anime and manga publications have praised and criticized Kakashi's character. Although he has been noted to be an echo of similar detached shōnen manga characters, the duality of Kakashi's apathetic and serious sides have been praised.

Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha is a fictional character in the Naruto manga and anime series created by Masashi Kishimoto. Itachi is the older brother of Sasuke Uchiha and is responsible for killing all the members of their clan, sparing only Sasuke. Though treated as an antagonist for much of the series, it is later revealed that Itachi slaughtered his clan in order to prevent a coup d'état which would result in a war, and that he had been acting in both Konoha's and Sasuke's best interests for the entire series.
Itachi has been featured in the Naruto films, has appeared once in an original video animation of Naruto, and is a playable character in most of the video games from the series. Itachi's character has been popular with readers of the manga, and has been positively received by critics. His appearance as an antagonist has been praised by several writers, although some have considered his initial appearance to be unsurprising. Prince Zuko is a fictional character in Nickelodeon's animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The character is voiced by Dante Basco and is portrayed by Dev Patel in M. Night Shyamalan's 2010 film The Last Airbender.
Zuko is the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation and an incredibly powerful Firebender, meaning he has the elemental ability to create and control fire and to redirect lightning through martial arts techniques. He is also sometimes called "Kyon Kyon" He also appears to have a strong dislike for leeks, the smell and taste make him feel sick.

Sasuke Uchiha is a fictional character from the Naruto manga and anime series created by Masashi Kishimoto. Sasuke is one of the several surviving members of the Uchiha clan, an infamous and powerful extended family of ninjas who were allied to the village of Konohagakure, before being massacred by Sasuke's older brother, Itachi Uchiha, before the series' start. At the series' beginning, Sasuke's entire purpose for living is to avenge the destruction of his clan by killing his brother, causing him to become cold and uncaring towards human connection. Sasuke has appeared in several of the series' featured movies, as well as other media, including several video games and OVAs.
Sasuke was conceived as a rival and foil to the series' titular character, Naruto Uzumaki. Sasuke's design caused difficulties for Kishimoto as he drew the manga scenes, but he has grown to enjoy drawing him. In the animated adaptations from the manga Sasuke has been voiced by Noriaki Sugiyama in Japanese and Yuri Lowenthal in the English dub.
