Honorable anime characters who always do the right thing are great because it's what we all want to see in real life - but one of the great things about anime is that we don't have to want to see something replicated in the real world to enjoy it in our favorite series. Because it's not real, we can easily appreciate anime characters who fight dirty. These characters are happy to throw morals to the side and engage in underhanded strategy - and sometimes, these characters are serving up some of the most creative battle tactics out there. It's hard not to appreciate the intelligence of Kiritsugu Emiya of Fate/Zero no matter how horribly he treats his opponents.
But some of these characters are harder to appreciate. Roto from Yu Yu Hakusho is less brilliant than he is scummy, and it's satisfying to watch Kurama destroy him. But even cruel and manipulative strategies that make you angry still add to the overall story.

Malty S. Melromarc - 'The Rising Of The Shield Hero'Photo: Kinema Citrus
Malty S. Melromarc is widely despised by fans of The Rising of the Shield Hero, and for good reason. This adventuring princess has some major ulterior motives up her sleeve, and they aren't pretty. She not only falsely accuses Naofumi of assault in order to further her political goals, she also cheats just about every time her favored hero competes against Naofumi - literally casting spells that create unnecessary hurdles or slow him down when she isn't even supposed to be competing. She even tries to betray her own sister. Basically, she just shows up over and over again to cause trouble through underhanded means.96044Are they a dirty fighter?
Weevil Underwood - 'Yu-Gi-Oh!'Photo: Studio Gallop
With a name like Weevil Underwood, there's no way this dude isn't going to be sneaky. This insect-loving kid has no particular desire to win duels on his own merits - instead, he'd prefer to get there by cheating. Whether it's impersonating someone who actually qualifies for a tournement or throwing Yugi's prized cards off of a boat, he doesn't care about the morality of what he's doing - all he cares about is whether or not he wins.53254Are they a dirty fighter?
Magma - 'Dr. Stone'Photo: TMS Entertainment
You wouldn't think that someone as ripped as Magma would need to fight dirty, but being physically strong enough to throttle his opponents isn't enough for him. He has to make sure that he's on top by any means. His ultimate plot is to take out Ruri as soon as he manages to secure a leadership by marrying her. To achieve that, he'll do anything from throw rocks when his opponants aren't looking to getting his lackeys to trick people on his behalf.
As he starts to realize how much good Senku is doing with the power of science, he does start to soften a little - but his core personality remains the same.48757Are they a dirty fighter?
Karma Akabane - 'Assassination Classroom'Photo: Lerche
Karma Akabane is a wickedly smart twelve-year-old whose intelligence and physical prowess are well above what most people would expect from someone his age. But despite the fact that he's fully capable of winning most conflicts using more honorable means, Karma just isn't into that. He has a lot more fun doing things like pulling open his enemy's nostrils and pouring hot sauce into them.711132Are they a dirty fighter?
