Sports anime has certainly grown in popularity recently. These stories often revolve around main characters learning how to gain something from an activity they're genuinely passionate about. Some of them have lost inspiration and learn to gain it back, like in Yuri!! on Ice, or have a want to learn more about the sport and grow into it, such as in Haikyu!!. The anime series Run With The Wind is another great show that presents a story about passion and uniquely gives us characters who are both new and seasoned in an activity. Kakeru was a former elite runner at his high school, but after being caught stealing food, he finds himself running yet again. Saved only because a university student named Haiji happened to see the incident, Kakeru is encouraged to come live with him and other runners. This old apartment, "Chikuseisou," houses several different residents, all of whom are looking to run in the Hakone Ekiden Marathon; one of the largest university marathons in Japan. However, Kakeru and Haiji seem to be the only ones with experience in running whereas the others are completely green.
Sports anime are incredibly diverse in that you learn more about a sport the more you watch it. Each series delves into a different kind of activity. So while anime like Run With The Wind will all be on different sports, the sentiments are still very much the same. Here are recommendations for Run With The Wind that you should be watching after you've caught up with the series.
Shouyou Hinata found inspiration in reviving a volleyball club at his school after watching the popular "Little Giant" play a game. A new club is always hard to put together, but Shouyou actually found luck in being able to revive it and even get it into a tournament. As lucky as that might seem, now he deals with the "King of the Court," Tobio Kageyama, a popular volleyball player who easily defeats his team before they even get a chance to shine. Vowing to one day defeat Tobio, Shouyou goes to high school with new energy, joins his new team only to realize that Tobio also attends the same school now. Together as teammates, they'll have to help each other become stronger in order to build up their team. Much like Run With The Wind, this anime series is all about bringing together teammates and working on bringing each other up rather than down.19414Is this a good next watch?
Tsurune: Kazemai Koukou Kyuudoubu
Run With The Wind shows us that no passion ever really truly dies and, regardless of what has happened in the past, you should always strive to be better than you were before. Part of what made this anime so motivating was to see the various characters learn a new and interesting part about themselves, pushing to be better runners. The same could be said for Tsurune: Kazemai Koukou Kyuudoubu. After an accident, Minato Narumiya has decided to drop the sport he once loved, Japanese archery. Seirin High School's basketball team has just taken on two new members; Taiga Kagami and Tetsuya Kuroko. Both of them seem to have incredible skills out on the court with Taiga just returning from the US and Tetsuya's lack of presence allowing him to go unnoticed against opponents. It's due to his strange ghost-like nature that Tetsuya earns the nickname the "Phantom Sixth Man," since he's constantly assisting his teammates in order to win. The series focuses on Seirin's basketball team as they strive to be the best out there, facing new and fierce opponents one right after the other. As Run With The Wind has shown us, there's always someone better than you and always room for improvement.9024Is this a good next watch?
