Athletes Who Were Arrested in 2020

One thing the public seems to love as much as a hero is watching a hero fall, and every time an athlete or sports figure gets arrested, it becomes fodder for the 24-hour news cycle. Fans are left to cringe as they see their favorite superstars across all sports, including the NBA, the NFL, MLB, and all soccer leagues, get in trouble with the law.

There is a long history of athletes, particularly football and basketball stars, getting nabbed for driving while intoxicated, a natural byproduct of being young and rich. Others are arrested for far darker crimes, and the list of players cited for domestic abuse, assault, and various drug crimes is lengthy. Other times, the charges are less serious, such as Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman kicking off his 2020 offseason by jumping on the hood of a car and damaging it.

    Arrested: August 4, 2020

    American Ninja Warrior Winner Drew Drechsel was arrested on multiple child-sex-related charges including "manufacture of child pornography, enticement of a minor to travel for illicit sexual conduct, travel with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and use of interstate commerce to entice a minor."

  • Antonio Brown

    Arrested: January 21, 2020

    NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, following a lost season in which he was dropped from multiple teams, was arrested and charged with felony burglary with battery for assaulting a moving truck driver. He was also charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and criminal mishief.

    Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was arrested in Beverly Hills, California, on the charge of misdemeanor vandalism after he jumped on the hood of a vehicle and damaged it.
