The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards contained a few actual acceptance speeches, and the awkwardness was palpable. When it wasn't basically a Rihanna concert (three separate performances), the VMAs involved some actual awards. While MTV neglects to show many of the winners and give them their time to shine with full two-minute acceptance speeches, a select few do take the stage for full adulation.
While the majority of speeches start and end the same with the artists thanking their family, God, and their fans, sometimes the artists like to take a different route. Alicia Keys recited a poem, while Fifth Harmony didn't let everyone speak. Kanye West, meanwhile, didn't even win an award yet spent five minutes on stage discussing anything and everything on his mind.
