Behind The Scenes Beauty Confessions From 'The Bachelor' Contestants

If you’re a fan of The Bachelor or any of its spin-off shows, you’ve probably stared at the screen every season thinking, "How do these women manage to look so perfect all the time?" Well, this list has all the answers.

The ladies on The Bachelor don’t get much help in the beauty department. Sure, they have access to professional hair and makeup artists for big moments, but getting glam is completely up to them for the majority of the time. And when you’re competing to marry the love of your life on reality television, the glam sessions are intense! One woman got breast implants right before filming started, for example.

You won't believe how juicy these Bachelor beauty confessions are, and you'll be shocked to learn why Chris Harrison takes Midol before filming. What do you think of the Bachelor contestants' beauty routines? Would you go to these extremes in the name of love?

  • Olivia Caridi Had A Professional Makeup Artist Train Her Privately Prior To Filming

America's favorite Bachelor villain, Olivia Caridi, had no idea what she was doing when it came to makeup. So before beginning filming on her season of The Bachelor with Ben Higgins, she had a professional MUA actually come to her house and train her. Caridi noted:

"I've never been that great at doing makeup, so I had a professional makeup artist come to my house to teach me how to do everything and make me a list of everything I needed to buy. She taught me how to contour. I didn't even know what that was. She works with people on reality TV, so she knew that there wouldn't be a lot of sleeping, so she advised on buying a white or a nude eye liner to put on my eyes to make them look bigger, which I didn't even know was a thing... Then, a couple days before filming, I went to Sephora and bought foundation, eye shadow palettes, brow fillers, like every single thing you could ever imagine. That was fun and expensive, but it was worth it."

Now Caridi's makeup game is one of the strongest around.

  • Ashley Iaconetti Lost Her Lash Extensions In The Ocean

With all the heat and humidity in Paradise, it's hard to keep your makeup (and lash extensions) from melting off. Of course, constantly being in the ocean doesn't help, either. In her time of need, Ashley Iaconnetti turned to the Bachelor in Paradise producers. She spilled

"My lash extensions were falling out rather quickly on Paradise - faster than usual because I was in the ocean. I had the handlers get me individual lashes from Target, and I glued them into the little bald spots."

  • Andi Dorfman Would Do Her Eye Makeup Last Because She Broke Down In Tears So Often

Bachelor Nation knows that there are a lot of tears over the course of a two hour episode. To that point, Season 10 Bachelorette Andi Dorfman actually admitted to using her hair stylist and makeup artist "as a therapist" and crying in her makeup chair. Dorfman went on to mention:

"I'd say, 'Do my eyes last.' I was going 23 hours a day. I was so tired, and the last thing I wanted to do was be poked and prodded or have my eyelashes curled. Sometimes you just break down."

  • Producers Preferred The Bachelorette To Wear Her Hair Down And Even Paid For Extensions To Make It Happen

Apparently, the producers of The Bachelorette preferred their stars with long, flowing hair. They were so against Season 6 Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky wearing her hair up that they even offered to have extensions put in for her! Fedotowsky remembered:

"I could get them for free, I figured why not do it. Looking back, they ended up looking ridiculous. I had too many. My hair was straight-up yellow. I had long, fake extensions."

  • The Pre-Bachelor Beauty Preparation Got Pretty Crazy

A post shared by Danielle Maltby (@dmmaltby) on

Contestants on The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor In Paradise spent a lot of time and money prepping for their respective 15 minutes of fame. Here are a few of the most intense pre-filming routines!

Jaclyn Swartz: "I invested in lash extensions, a personal trainer five days a week for the eight weeks leading up to the show, dermaplaning - which I swear by - and a fresh head of blond. I also waxed, brought way more makeup, and embraced makeup trends like contouring."

Danielle Maltby: "I decided to get breast augmentation before I decided I was going on Paradise - I wanted to have curves and feel womanly. But I will admit that the thought of being on TV all summer in a swimsuit was making me uncomfortable, because it was so hard for me to find swim tops that I felt comfortable in."

Alexis Waters: "I got a Brazilian wax and lasered my mustache and armpits."

Ashley Iaconnetti: "I threaded my entire face and got lash extensions. You have to make sure they’re really glued on and that they have more density to them than normal. And then, of course, my nails, a HydraFacial, and fresh Botox."

Whitney Bischoff: "I got highlights, lash extensions, a gel manicure, and a supply of high-definition makeup... But I had the most anxiety about how I was going to go without my weekly spray tans. After my farewell spray tan, I bought about four bottles of St. Tropez."

  • There Were Only Four Mirrors In The Whole 'Bachelor In Paradise' House And The Lighting Was Really Bad

Bachelor and Bachelor In Paradise alum Ashley Iaconetti is famous for her full-face makeup looks; you'll hardly ever spot her without contour and a bold lip. But getting that look was hard to achieve in the Bachelor In Paradise house, since there were only four mirrors for about 23 girls!

In addition to that, Iaconetti claimed

"The lighting in the mansion was really bad for makeup, so I did mine on the balcony every day. It was my moment to get away and be alone. [For Bachelor in Paradise], I got an amazing makeup kit that has really good lighting."
