Adrian Peterson

Adrian Lewis Peterson (born March 21, 1985) is an American football running back for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Oklahoma and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings seventh overall in the 2007 NFL Draft. Peterson set the NCAA freshman rushing record with 1,925 yards as a true freshman during the 2004 season. As a unanimous first-team All-American, he became the first freshman to finish as the runner-up in the Heisman Trophy balloting. Peterson finished his college football career as the Sooners' third all-time leading rusher.
Following his first professional season, in which he set an NFL record for most rushing yards in a single game (296), Peterson was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He was then awarded the MVP award for his performance in the Pro Bowl and became only the fifth player in NFL history to have more than 3,000 yards through his first two seasons. In 2010, he became the fifth fastest player to run for 5,000 yards, doing so in his 51st game.
In 2012, Peterson became the sixth fastest player to reach 8,000 rushing yards, ending the season with 2,097 rushing yards, just nine yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson's single season all-time record. Peterson amassed 2,314 all-purpose yards from scrimmage in 2012, tying Marcus Allen for the eighth-highest total ever. For his efforts, he received the NFL MVP Award and the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award for the 2012 NFL season. During the 2013 season, Peterson became the third fastest player to reach 10,000 rushing yards in NFL history. In 2015, Peterson became the oldest running back to make first-team All-Pro, doing so at 30 years of age.
In September 2014, Peterson was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child that occurred earlier that year, and was suspended for the rest of the 2014 season. A free agent coming into the 2017 season, Peterson signed a two-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, but was traded to the Arizona Cardinals just five weeks into the season before being released following the season's end. Peterson then signed with the Washington Redskins in 2018, where he recorded the eighth 1,000-yard season of his career, tied for sixth-most all-time.

Marshawn Lynch

Marshawn Terrell Lynch (born April 22, 1986) is a former American football running back. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft after playing college football at the University of California, Berkeley, where he became the school's second all-time career rusher.After three seasons with the Bills, Lynch was traded to the Seattle Seahawks mid-way through the 2010 season. With Seattle, he made four Pro Bowls and won Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos. After initially retiring after the 2015 season, Lynch applied for reinstatement and was traded to the Oakland Raiders in April 2017, with whom he played two seasons before retiring again. Lynch earned the nickname "Beast Mode" for his powerful running style and consistent ability to run over defenders and break tackles. He is considered by some analysts to be among the best running backs of all-time.Lynch has been cast in the third season of the HBO drama Westworld, set to air in 2020.



Frank Gore

Franklin Delano "Frank" Gore (born May 14, 1983) is an American football running back for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Miami, and was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft, playing with them from 2005 to 2014. He is the 49ers all-time leader in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
In his NFL career, Gore has had nine 1,000-rushing-yard seasons and five Pro Bowl selections. While achieving some personal success, he struggled with a team that suffered numerous losing seasons until he and the 49ers achieved a 13–3 record in the 2011 season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. In 2011, the 49ers won the NFC West division and reached the NFC championship game. In 2012, Gore helped lead the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII, although they would lose to the Baltimore Ravens. In 2011, Gore became the 49ers career rushing yards leader and in 2012, he became the 49ers rushing touchdowns leader. In 2014, Gore became the 29th player to have rushed for over 10,000 yards. He also spent three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and a year with his hometown team Miami Dolphins. He is currently the oldest active running back in the league.

Jamaal Charles

Jamaal RaShaad Jones Charles (born December 27, 1986) is a former American football running back. He played college football for the University of Texas, and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
Charles's first year as a Chief was hardly in the spotlight; as a backup to halfback Larry Johnson, Charles rushed only 67 times for 357 yards. His breakout season came the following year in 2009. In his second year, Charles rushed 190 times for 1,120 yards, despite only starting 10 games after Larry Johnson was suspended. Shortly thereafter, Johnson was released, leaving Charles as Kansas City's starting halfback.
Charles is the all-time leader in yards per carry among players with at least 1,000 carries with 5.38 yards per carry.

LeSean McCoy

LeSean Kamel "Shady" McCoy (born July 12, 1988) is an American football running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft after playing college football at Pittsburgh. In the 2015 offseason, McCoy was traded to the Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso. After the trade, he signed a new five-year contract worth $40 million. McCoy made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three years in Buffalo, helping the team snap a 17-year playoff drought, and has become one of a few select NFL running backs to surpass 10,000 career rushing yards. McCoy is a two-time Super Bowl champion (LIV, LV), six time Pro-Bowler, and two-time All Pro (2011, 2013).

Arian Foster

Arian Isa Foster (born August 24, 1986) is a former American football running back. He played college football at the University of Tennessee, and was signed by the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL) as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Foster was known for his signature Namaste bow, which he frequently performed after scoring touchdowns. Foster holds the Texans franchise records for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, and also played for the Miami Dolphins. Foster announced his retirement on October 24, 2016.

Maurice Jones-Drew

Maurice Christopher Jones-Drew (born March 23, 1985), often called "M.J.D", is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons. He played college football for the UCLA Bruins and earned unanimous All-American honors.
Jones-Drew was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, 60th overall, was named to the Pro Bowl three times, and led the NFL in rushing yards in 2011. He played his first eight seasons with the Jaguars, through 2013. In his final season in 2014, he played for the Oakland Raiders.
Following his retirement, Jones-Drew entered broadcasting, serving as a football color analyst for NFL Now and other shows on NFL Network. He is currently the color analyst for the Los Angeles Rams.

Matt Forté

Matthew Garrett Forte (born December 10, 1985) is a former American football running back who played ten seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Tulane and was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Forte established himself as a dual-threat running back who is capable of earning yards as a rusher and receiver and he's one of only three players on the "1,000-yard rushing, 100-catch season" club. He spent eight years with the Bears before playing for the New York Jets for two seasons..

Steven Jackson

Steven Rashad Jackson (born July 22, 1983) is a former American football running back. He played college football for Oregon State and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the first round with the 24th overall selection in the 2004 NFL Draft. He also played for the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots.
Jackson holds the Rams franchise record for most rushing yards, and is a member of the 10,000 yard rushing club.

DeMarco Murray

DeMarco Murray (born February 12, 1988) is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 7 seasons. A three-time Pro Bowl selection and one-time first team All-Pro, he was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2014 when he led the NFL in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
Murray played college football at Oklahoma and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. After four seasons with the Cowboys, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles for one year and then the Tennessee Titans for two years. He currently serves as running backs coach at the University of Arizona.

Ray Rice

Raymell Mourice Rice (born January 22, 1987) is a former American football running back who played his entire professional career with the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Rutgers and was drafted by the Ravens in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He is the Ravens' second all-time leading rusher behind Jamal Lewis, and is also second in rushing attempts and touchdowns, and third in combined touchdowns. He was a member of the 2012 Ravens team that won Super Bowl XLVII over the San Francisco 49ers.
In March 2014, Rice was arrested and subsequently indicted for an incident in which he assaulted his fiancée. The incident became well-known after celebrity news website, TMZ, released security camera footage of Rice punching his fiancée and knocking her out in an elevator. The release of this video and public backlash against Rice led to an NFL policy change regarding how it handles domestic violence cases. Following the release of an additional video of the incident, Rice's contract was terminated by the Ravens in September 2014. He was subsequently suspended indefinitely by the league, but was later reinstated after he successfully appealed the decision in federal courts. However, Rice has not played professional football since his final season with the Ravens in 2013.

Todd Jerome Gurley II (born August 3, 1994) is an American football running back for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Georgia where he earned All-SEC honors in 2012 and 2013. Gurley was drafted by the St. Louis Rams with the tenth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Despite missing three games due to a torn ACL suffered during his junior year at Georgia, Gurley rushed for 1,106 yards in his rookie season and was voted Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press. He was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press following the 2017 season after gaining 19 offensive touchdowns.

Shaun Edward Alexander (born August 30, 1977) is a former American football running back who played for the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL).  He played college football for the University of Alabama, and was drafted by the Seahawks 19th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft.  In May 2011, he was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.  Alexander set numerous NFL and Seattle Seahawks' franchise records, and was named the NFL MVP in 2005.  He was also named to the NFL's 2000 All-Decade team.

Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley (born February 9, 1997) is an American football running back for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Penn State for three seasons, running for 3,843 yards with 43 rushing touchdowns, while garnering 1,195 receiving yards with 8 touchdown receptions. He totaled 5,557 all-purpose yards in his three-year collegiate career. Barkley received national attention and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting with 304 total votes and third in Maxwell Award voting. He also received multiple national and Big Ten Conference awards and recognition. During Barkley's three-year collegiate career, he broke and set numerous Penn State records including most rushing touchdowns in a career, most rushing yards by a freshman and sophomore as well as most total yards in a single game. Barkley was drafted with the second overall pick by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Alvin Kamara

Alvin Mentian Kamara (born July 25, 1995) is an American football running back for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played high school football for the Blue Devils football team. As a junior in 2011, he rushed for 1,300 yards with 17 touchdowns. As a senior in 2012, he rushed for 2,264 yards with 26 touchdowns, and he had 22 receptions for 286 yards and five touchdowns and led his high school to its first state championship. Following the conclusion of the 2016 college season, Kamara decided to forgo his redshirt senior season and enter the 2017 NFL Draft. In his two seasons as a Volunteer, he started in only eight of 24 games due to sharing the backfield with Jalen Hurd, but he amassed almost 2,000 yards from scrimmage and averaged a touchdown per game.

Atiim Kiambu "Tiki" Barber (; born April 7, 1975) is an American former football running back who played for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons. He played college football for the University of Virginia. Barber was drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft, and played his entire professional career for them. Barber retired from the NFL at the end of the 2006 NFL postseason as the Giants' all-time rushing and reception leader.  Barber was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
Following his playing career, Barber became a national media presence, notably joining NBC's The Today Show as a correspondent in 2007  and Football Night in America/Sunday Night Football.  He has published multiple books.
He is the identical twin brother of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber.

LeGarrette Blount

LeGarrette Montez Blount (; born December 5, 1986), nicknamed "The Train", is an American football running back who is currently a free agent. Blount rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his two seasons in junior college. He then committed to the Oregon Ducks football program as a junior, for the 2008 season. That year, he ran for over 1,000 yards and scored a school-record 17 touchdowns. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans in 2010, but joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the start of the 2010 NFL season. He also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014, between his two stints with the New England Patriots, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 and the Detroit Lions in 2018.
With the Patriots, Blount won Super Bowl XLIX over the Seattle Seahawks and Super Bowl LI over the Atlanta Falcons. The following season he won Super Bowl LII with the Eagles, defeating his former team the Patriots. His 11 career rushing touchdowns in the playoffs are tied for 6th-most in NFL history.

Fred Jackson

Frederick George Jackson (born February 20, 1981) is a former American football running back. He played college football at Coe College. After going undrafted in 2003 and playing three seasons in NFL Europe, Jackson spent nine seasons with the Buffalo Bills, becoming their third all-time leading rusher. In the 2015 season, he was the oldest active running back in the NFL.

Aaron Jones

Aaron LaRae Jones (born December 2, 1994) is an American football running back for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Texas at El Paso. Jones attended and played high school football for Burges High School in El Paso, Texas. He had a three-star composite rating from 247Sports.com. Jones attended and played college football for the UTEP Miners from 2013–2016 under head coach Sean Kugler. As a freshman, Jones played in nine games. In his collegiate debut, against New Mexico, he had 11 carries for 127 yards and two rushing touchdowns. On October 26, against Rice, he had a season-high 186 rushing yards. Overall, he finished the 2013 season with 811 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, and four receptions for 14 yards.

Darren McFadden (born August 27, 1987) is a former American football running back. He played college football for the University of Arkansas, and was picked fourth overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 2008 NFL Draft. He also played for the Dallas Cowboys.

Eddie Lacy

Edward Darwin Lacy Jr. (born June 2, 1990) is an American football running back who is currently a free agent. He played college football at Alabama, where he was a member of three BCS National Championship teams in the 2009, 2011, and 2012 seasons. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was also a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

Ahmad Bradshaw (born March 19, 1986) is a former American football running back. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He played college football at Marshall. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion, winning Super Bowls XLII and XLVI as a member of the New York Giants, defeating the New England Patriots in both Super Bowls. He was the leading rusher in each game, becoming one of eight running backs in NFL history to be the leading rusher in two Super Bowls.

Peyton Derek Hillis (born January 21, 1986) is a former American football fullback who played in the National Football League (NFL). Hillis attended Conway High School in Conway, Arkansas and was a highly touted recruit. Hillis attended the University of Arkansas where he was primarily used as a fullback. After being drafted in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft, Hillis rose to the top of the depth chart as the starting fullback for the Denver Broncos. Due to injuries to the running back corps, he became the starting running back. After spending two years in Denver, Hillis was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2010. In 2011, Hillis won a nationwide vote which put him on the cover of EA Sports' Madden NFL 12 video game.
