List Rules Vote up your favorite animated films that were released in the 1970s

The greatest ‘70s cartoon movies are an interesting mix of fun, family-friendly entertainment like The Aristocats - the charming story of four cats who must find their way home to Paris after a kidnapping gone awry - along with slightly heavier fare, like Watership Down. Released in 1978, Watership Down tells the tale of a group of rabbits engaged in a struggle to survive. The film has its lighter moments, but is pervaded by themes of tyranny, freedom, reason, and emotion. It was the first animated film presented in Dolby surround sound.

In the ‘70s, J.R.R. Tolkien’s high fantasy epic narrative classic, The Lord of the Rings, was also adapted into an animated movies. The franchise was later taken to new heights by director Peter Jackson’s live-action take.On this list, you'll also find folk heroes like the titular character of Disney's classic, Robin Hood, which debuted in 1973. You’ll also find loveable bands of animated friends in films like like The Rescuers, Charlotte's Web, and Scooby Doo.
