The Greatest Movie Villains From The '70s

List Rules'70s villains only.

Close the curtains and lock the doors as we rank the greatest horror villains of the ‘70s. The 1970s was an interesting time for the horror genre. Films like Halloween and Alien broke the mold for the slasher and sci-fi genres, and monster movies like Jaws proved that horror films can also be blockbusters. It was a time of change, and those changes brought with them some of the most iconic horror villains of all time. Which of these terrifying villains is your favorite?

The ‘70s allowed horror to become more accessible and with that allowed a lot of auteurs to take horror to new heights. While crude and sometimes unsettling, it’s these ‘70s horror films and their villains (along with the evolution of home video) that helped pave the way for the horror boom of the 1980s. Without characters like Michael Myers or Leatherface, we wouldn’t have been given icons like Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, or even Chucky.

Vote up the best ‘70s horror villains, and if someone’s missing, add them to the list!
