List RulesVote up your favorite Western films that were released in the 1990s.

Fans of western movies will know that the genre had fallen from prominence by the beginning of the 1990s. On this list of the best ‘90s western films, you will see a diverse and uncompromising group of films that helped spark a renewed interest in tales of the American West.

Released in 1990, and still considered one of the most iconic western movies of all time,
Dances with Wolves kickstarted the trend of classic ‘90s westerns. Directed by, and starring, Kevin Costner, the film won 7 Academy Awards and has since been preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry for its cultural significance. Also on this list of the greatest ‘90s western movies is the sweeping epic Tombstone. With a monster cast, including Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, and Bill Paxton, Tombstone portrayed many significant events of the history of the American West, such as the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

At the top of this list, you’ll find one of the most gripping western movies ever made -
Unforgiven, directed by, and starring, Clint Eastwood. The film is really a movie about westerns, as it portrays the myths of the Old West as being far more complicated and blood-soaked than Hollywood would have you believe. The final scene of the movie is the stuff of legends.Vote up the best '90s western film below, and be sure to let us know what you think in the comment section.
