Directed by, and starring, Kevin Costner, the film won 7 Academy Awards and has since been preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry for its cultural significance. Also on this list of the greatest ‘90s western movies is the sweeping epic Tombstone. With a monster cast, including Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, and Bill Paxton, Tombstone portrayed many significant events of the history of the American West, such as the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
