No team or squad is complete without a leader to pull it together. Whether they're the strongest and smartest of the bunch or great at motivation and strategic thinking, the squad captains in anime are indispensable parts of their team.
We're using the term “captain” pretty liberally here. While in some cases that is their actual title, in other cases they're simply a leader of a team. They can be found in action anime like One Piece and Naruto, as well as in sports anime like Run with the Wind and Haikyuu!! Who do you think are the best anime leaders?
As long as you don't bother Yami Sukehiro while he's on the toilet, he's a chill, laid-back guy. While some see him as a bit uncouth, others appreciate his candor.
Love him or hate him, you can't get away from his incredible strength. He uses Dark Magic, a rare form of magic that lets him control darkness itself.
Roy Mustang is a talented alchemist who relies on flame-based attacks. Though his personality is brash and sometimes rude, he still commands immense respect from his subordinates.
Whenever he's too impulsive, he can rely on the far calmer and more practical Riza Hawkeye to keep him in line.
As the captain of the Survey Corps, Levi Ackerman has to lead a group of traumatized teenagers through countless battles with horrifying, gigantic monsters. From making sure they keep their surroundings spotless to snapping brusque orders, he doesn't go easy on his cadets.
Things have gotten more complex as they've learned more about who the Titans are and what they're trying to accomplish. As Levi tries to figure out what's going on, he approaches whatever comes next with incredible strength and fortitude.
It's hard to choose just one great captain from Naruto, but this time around we'll go with the most prominent one, Kakashi Hatake of Team 7. Though he acts indifferent to his subordinates, it's obvious he cares for them a great deal, and he's been instrumental in all three of them becoming the shinobi they were always meant to be.
But he does more than just guide. Whether he's using his Sharingan eye, powerful electric jutsu like Chidori, or fighting with kunai and fists, he's one of the strongest ninja around.
Kyojuro Rengoku is a member of the Hashira, which gives him the power to serve groups of lower-ranking Demon Slayers on missions.
We get to see him in action during the Mugen Train arc and movie. His cheerful, can-do attitude can appear a little intense at first, but ultimately it puts everyone else at ease. His Flame Breathing is both beautiful and effective.
Satoru Gojo is a teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High, but he's also the leader informally in charge of Megumi, Nobara, and Itadori's development as sorcerers.
His methods for helping them out can be pretty unorthodox - for example, he had Itadori practice controlling his cursed energy by watching movies. When there's a serious problem, he steps in and fights, using special moves like Limitless and Infinity.
