The 13 Best Anime Like 'Goblin Slayer'

Goblin Slayer made a splash with its premiere containing a massive turn of events. If you haven't seen it yet, you'd probably glance at the cover and wonder what the big deal is about; make no mistake, this anime is messed up. Set in a world where mythical creatures roam and adventurers are needed to defeat them, it seems like your average fantasy anime. That is, until a young priestess joins an inexperienced party to fight goblins.

When adventurers become overwhelmed, a man in armor appears to defeat the ugly creatures: the Goblin Slayer. He's dedicated his life to wiping out these creatures no matter the means. If you've already caught up on the show and are craving more anime series like it, we have a few great recommendations for shows that feature the same kind of messed up twists and turns, as well as the fantasy element you love about this show!

Momonga spent the final hour of his favorite virtual reality game, Yggdrasil, roaming through the halls of his guild's castle and remembering all the good times he had. But when the hour strikes midnight, the game doesn't shut down; he can't even log out. Now the NPCs seem to have come to life and even the world outside appears different from the game in which he came.

Stuck in this world, he takes on his character's game, Ainz Ooal Gown, and decides to explore the world beyond. While this anime isn't too harsh in its fight scenes, it still maintains a fantasy-like setting that matches Goblin Slayer nicely.

  • If you're looking for something filled with horrific twists and scenes, Akame ga Kill! is filled with them right from the get-go. Tatsumi and two of his close childhood friends have traveled to the capital in hopes of earning money to send back to their impoverished village.

Naive to the horrific truth behind the "kind" citizens of the capital, Tatsumi watches the horrors that have befallen his friends and decides to join a revolutionary group known as the Night Raid. Their goal is the overthrow the prime minister and change the world around them. It's full of gore and some of the show's plot is incredibly difficult to watch.

  • With only vague memories of their lives, a group of strangers has to band together to survive in a strange world. Grimgar is a game-like world where only the strong survive, and the weak are weeded out very early on. With peace constantly being threatened, this band of misfits with nothing in common must work together, not only to save their own lives, but the lives of Grimgar's people.

With constant clashes and their untimely demise always looming, you'll want to see this show if you enjoy the kind of intense scenes Goblin Slayer has.

Shimazu Toyohisa had a horrific fracture during the Battle of Sekigahara; though he was able to defeat his foe, it came at a costly price. As he travels through the field, he's transported into a corridor filled with doors, and there's a man named Murasaki waiting to treat his wounds. From there, he awakens in another world where other might warriors, known as "Drifters" have gathered. This world is filled with a number of mythical races, such as elves, but humans are losing a mighty conflict against a ground known as the Ends.

Their last hope is for the Drifters to save a war they may very well lose otherwise. The fight scenes are fairly intense and are what the story essentially revolves around, much like Goblin Slayer, so if you're looking for action, this is the one!
