Vinland Saga is one of the most popular anime of the Summer 2019 anime season, and for good reason. Based on a critically acclaimed manga by Makoto Yukimura, this Amazon Prime exclusive follows Thorfinn, a young Viking warrior who is dedicated to avenging his father's demise. With its breathtaking art, its intricate characters, and its unflinching look at the realities of war, it's definitely a show worth keeping an eye on.
What else can you watch while you're waiting for the next episode? Other anime like Vinland Saga, of course. Berserk, a gritty tale of Guts' journey through medieval Europe is commonly cited as being worth watching if you like Vinland Saga. There's also The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Kingdom, and Altair: A Record of Battles, all series that deal with the reality of war in a historical, non-Japanese setting. Whatever your tastes, there's something on this list that will appeal to you.

Attack on Titan is Studio Wit's first anime production, and it's obvious that some of its traits have made their way into Vinland Saga. Attack on Titan takes place in a medieval Europe-like world that is under constant threat of destruction from gigantic man-eating monsters called Titans. The protagonists grow up peacefully until one day the wall protecting them is breached, and they lose everything. Eren Jaeger vows to get revenge by destroying every Titan in existence. This mirrors Thorfinn's quest for vengeance against the people who eliminated his father, destroying his precarious peace. Is this a great next watch?

Just like Vinland Saga, Berserk is a gritty tale of life in wartorn medieval Europe. Berserk, though, is a lot grittier. While Vinland Saga doesn't shy away from depicting violence, Berserk revels in it. Meanwhile, Vinland Saga offers a more accurate and specific historical setting. While it takes some liberties for the sake of the story, much of it is inspired by actual Viking history. Meanwhile, Berserk takes place in a fantasy world that's loosely inspired by its historical roots. If you're looking for a similar concept with more violence and more magic, Berserk is for you.Is this a great next watch?
Castlevania isn't strictly an anime - it's actually a Netflix original produced in America - but it's based on a Japanese video game and uses anime style, so for the purposes of this list, it counts. It's also a great watch if you like Vinland Saga. That's because it's also an epic tale of revenge. After Count Dracula's wife is burned at the stake, he decides to take vengeance on the entire nation of Wallachia. Up against him are monster hunter Trevor Belmont, Dracula's son Alucard, and magician Sypha Belnades. The show weaves its themes of vengeance with its historical and mythical European setting to create a compelling and suspenseful tale.Is this a great next watch?
