This list ranks the best Alabama Crimson Tide players of all time. Football is a way of life in Alabama. The state is home to two of the most famous schools in NCAA history: Auburn and Alabama. The latter is one of the most recognized programs in the sport and recently has dominated college football behind some of the best players in school history. The football program started in 1892 and has established itself as one of the most iconic names in sports. Alabama has won 15 national championships and those teams featured some of the best players in Crimson Tide history. Many of Alabama's greatest players went onto achieve success in the NFL, including future Pro Football Hall of Famers like John Hannah, Ozzie Newsome and Derrick Thomas. Surprisingly, with the school's rich history of having a roster full of outstanding players, curiously has only one Heisman Trophy in its cabinet. In 2009, Mark Ingram barely nudged past <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-stanford-cardinal-running-backs/ranker-college-football?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">Stanford running back</a> Toby Gerhart to take the trophy back to Tuscaloosa.&nbsp;In recent years, a good number of Alabama players have gone on to play in the NFL. Jake Plummer

Jason Steven "Jake" Plummer (born December 19, 1974) is a former professional American football player, a quarterback for ten seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft, and spent his first six seasons with the Cardinals and the last four with the Denver Broncos. Plummer played college football at Arizona State University.
His nickname, "Jake the Snake," was given to him as a tribute to professional wrestler, Jake "the Snake" Roberts. Coincidentally, Roberts adopted that nickname as a tribute to his favorite NFL player, former Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler, who was nicknamed "Snake."
Plummer joined the Pac-12 Network in 2013 as a studio analyst for college football.

Jeffrey Richard Van Raaphorst (born December 7, 1963) is a former American football quarterback. After going to high school at Grossmont High School in La Mesa, California, Van Raaphorst attended Arizona State University. He led the Sun Devils football team to the Pac-10 championship in his senior year, where they won the 1987 Rose Bowl. He was the Rose Bowl Player of the Game.
Van Raaphorst made his professional debut in the NFL in 1987 with the Atlanta Falcons.  He played two games for Atlanta in the 1988 season.
Van Raaphorst's brother Mike Van Raaphorst was a backup quarterback behind Carson Palmer at USC in 1999.  His brother Billy Van Raaphorst is a college baseball umpire.
Van Raaphorst was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 2006.Van Raaphorst now serves as a color commentator for Arizona State football radio broadcasts.

During his fourth year with the Broncos, Osweiler was a member of the team that won Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers. That season marked his first appearance as a starter when he relieved an injured Peyton Manning, to whom he had served as a backup in his first three years, although Manning would resume his starting duties during the postseason. After the Broncos' title victory, Osweiler signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Houston Texans, but he struggled with the team and threw a franchise-record 16 interceptions. He was traded to the Cleveland Browns but was subsequently released prior to the 2017 season and re-signed with the Broncos, with whom he then started five games. Mike John Pagel (born September 13, 1960) is a former professional American football player who was selected by the Baltimore Colts in the fourth round of the 1982 NFL Draft. A 6'2", 206 lb (93 kg) quarterback from Arizona State, Pagel played in 12 NFL seasons from 1982–1993.
Drafted the same year as Art Schlichter, Pagel was drafted to be groomed as a backup.  Generally he out-played Schlichter.  Pagel bounced in and out of the starting quarterback job for the Colts in his four seasons with the team, alternating with Schlichter, Matt Kofler, and Mark Herrmann. He was the last Colt to wear #18 before Peyton Manning.  He was traded to Cleveland for the 1986 season and served for the next five years there strictly as a backup. In 1988, he took over for an injured Bernie Kosar and Don Strock and  played well in a playoff loss to the Houston Oilers.
Pagel finished up the last three years with the Los Angeles Rams, never garnering more than mop-up duties.
Pagel now resides in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, and is a project manager for AT&T.  He also serves as analyst for the pregame, halftime and postgame shows on WTAM and WMMS during Browns games and offers television color commentary on college games on Fox Sports Network. Pagel also provides video commentary on his own site Pagel On Point. In addition, he presently is the quarterback coach at Normandy High School in Parma, Ohio. Sports is part of the family bloodline; Mike's brother Karl Pagel played baseball for the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians. His brother Rick was a starting defensive end for the United States Naval Academy and served over 20 years as a helicopter pilot in the Marine Corps. Two of his other brothers also played junior college sports.  His brother, Bruce, played offensive line at Glendale (AZ) Community College, and is now a professor of political science at Santa Fe College.  His brother, Ross, played quarterback for Phoenix College, and later played first base for the college baseball team.

Samuel Michael Keller (born September 28, 1984) is a former American football quarterback. He currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.  He was signed by the Los Angeles Avengers as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football at Arizona State and Nebraska.

Fred Mortensen

Fred Mortensen (born March 24, 1954) was a former college football player at Arizona State University.
Fred played three years in the United States Football League, playing quarterback for the Denver Gold in 1983 and 1984 and the San Antonio Gunslingers in 1985.
In the 1990s Fred also served as a high school Football coach for the Tempe High School Buffalo Varsity football team where both his son Todd and Nathan attended. Fred quarterbacked Tempe High School to the state finals in 1971.  In the 1975 Fiesta Bowl, Fred helped lead the Sun Devils to a 17-14 victory over Nebraska.  Today Fred still lives in Tempe where he acts as a faithful member, and former Bishop, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and runs a successful general contracting business.

John Stephen Goodman (born June 20, 1952) is an American actor and voice artist. Early in his career, he was known for playing Dan Conner on the ABC TV series Roseanne (1988–1997; 2018), for which he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in 1993. He is also a regular collaborator with the Coen brothers on such films as Raising Arizona (1987), Barton Fink (1991), The Big Lebowski (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), and Inside Llewyn Davis (2013). Goodman's voice roles in animated films include Pacha in Disney's The Emperor's New Groove (2000) and Sulley in Pixar's Monsters, Inc.
