This list ranks the best Alabama Crimson Tide players of all time. Football is a way of life in Alabama. The state is home to two of the most famous schools in NCAA history: Auburn and Alabama. The latter is one of the most recognized programs in the sport and recently has dominated college football behind some of the best players in school history. The football program started in 1892 and has established itself as one of the most iconic names in sports. Alabama has won 15 national championships and those teams featured some of the best players in Crimson Tide history. Many of Alabama's greatest players went onto achieve success in the NFL, including future Pro Football Hall of Famers like John Hannah, Ozzie Newsome and Derrick Thomas. Surprisingly, with the school's rich history of having a roster full of outstanding players, curiously has only one Heisman Trophy in its cabinet. In 2009, Mark Ingram barely nudged past <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-stanford-cardinal-running-backs/ranker-college-football?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">Stanford running back</a> Toby Gerhart to take the trophy back to Tuscaloosa.&nbsp;In recent years, a good number of Alabama players have gone on to play in the NFL. Lance Dwight Alworth (born August 3, 1940) is a former American football player who was a wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers of the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL) and Dallas Cowboys of the NFL.  He played for eleven seasons, from 1962 through 1972, and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1978. He was the first player inducted whose playing career was principally in the AFL. Alworth is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Peyton Hillis

Peyton Derek Hillis (born January 21, 1986) is a former American football fullback who played in the National Football League (NFL). Hillis attended Conway High School in Conway, Arkansas and was a highly touted recruit. Hillis attended the University of Arkansas where he was primarily used as a fullback. After being drafted in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft, Hillis rose to the top of the depth chart as the starting fullback for the Denver Broncos. Due to injuries to the running back corps, he became the starting running back. After spending two years in Denver, Hillis was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2010. In 2011, Hillis won a nationwide vote which put him on the cover of EA Sports' Madden NFL 12 video game.

He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1979–1981, and was a key member of the Buccaneers team that made the first playoff appearance in franchise history in 1979.  Eckwood played collegiately for the Arkansas Razorbacks from 1975–78.

Chrys Chukwuma in Montgomery, Alabama is a former professional American football running back who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys and has played for the Las Vegas Outlaws of the defunct XFL, Tennessee Titans, Edmonton Eskimos, Montgomery Maulers and the Arkansas Stars of the National Indoor Football League. He was drafted in the 16th round of the All American Football League by Team Arkansas.
