Nominees for Best Art Direction at the 2012 Academy Awards ceremony, announced on January 24, 2012. The Academy Award for Best Art Direction recognizes achievement in art direction on a film. The first Award for Best Art Direction went to William Cameron Menzies for The Dove and Tempest at the 1928 Oscars.

Walt Disney holds the record for most wins, with 26 statutes. Cedric Gibbons is second for that honor with 11 wins and 39 nominations, Gibbons was one of the founding members of The Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences, and oversaw the design of the Academy Awards statuette in 1929.

Early favorites for the 2012 Oscars are The Artist, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 and Hugo.
