Pete Maravich

A list of the best Atlanta Hawks of all time. The Atlanta Hawks began as the Buffalo Bison in 1946. After bouncing around and changing names a few times, before landing in St. Louis in 1955. Those years in St. Louis featured a number of the greatest players in Hawks history. Hall of Famer Bob Pettit was the star of those Hawks teams of the late '50s and the Hawks captured the franchise's only title in 1958 behind their all star forward.&nbsp;The team moved to Atlanta in 1968 where it has remained since. a handful of all stars and even Hall of Famers played for the Hawks during its time in Atlanta. However, despite having a number of great players, the Hawks have never advanced past the second round of the playoffs in the Atlanta era. Dominique Wilkins led some of the entertaining Atlanta teams in the 1980s. Wilkins is one of the most popular players in Hawks history, and one if its best. The high flying Wilkins was a prolific scorer and multiple time slam dunk champion. Doc Rivers, Tree Rollins and Spud Webb are other players who are considered some of the best Hawks ever and some of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/the-top-nba-players-of-all-time">best players of all time</a>. More recently, Joe Johnson, Al Horford and Josh Smith are all star players who have led the Hawks and are some of the best players of the past decade.This is the list of the best Atlanta Hawks of all time. Dominique Wilkins

Jacques Dominique Wilkins (born January 12, 1960) is an American retired professional basketball player who primarily played for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Wilkins was a nine-time NBA All-Star, and is widely viewed as one of the best dunkers in NBA history, earning the nickname "The Human Highlight Film". In 2006, Wilkins was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
In addition to his eleven seasons with the Hawks, Wilkins had short stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Boston Celtics, Panathinaikos Athens (a professional team in Greece's top-tier level Greek Basket League, with whom he won his first titles, the FIBA European League and the Greek Cup), Fortitudo Bologna (a professional team in Italy's top-tier level LBA), the San Antonio Spurs, and the Orlando Magic before he retired in 1999.

Lou Hudson

Louis Clyde Hudson ("Sweet Lou") (July 11, 1944 – April 11, 2014) was an American National Basketball Association (NBA) player, who was an All-American at the University of Minnesota and a six-time NBA All-Star, scoring 17,940 total points in 13 NBA seasons (1966–1979).

Joe Johnson

Joseph Marcus Johnson (born June 29, 1981) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Tri-State Triplets of the BIG3 professional basketball league. He played high school basketball for Little Rock Central High School and college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks. After two years with Arkansas, he declared for the 2001 NBA draft where he was drafted 10th overall by the Boston Celtics. He is a seven-time NBA All-Star and has also played for the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat and Utah Jazz, while having also represented the United States national team.

Cliff Hagan

Clifford Oldham Hagan (born December 9, 1931) is an American former professional basketball player. A 6-4 forward who excelled with the hook shot, Hagan, nicknamed "Li'l Abner", played his entire 10-year NBA career (1956–1966) with the St. Louis Hawks. He was also a player-coach for the Dallas Chaparrals in the first two-plus years of the American Basketball Association's existence (1967–1970).

Shareef Abdur-Rahim

Shareef Abdur-Rahim (born December 11, 1976) is an American retired professional basketball player who is currently president of the NBA G League. He was also the director of player personnel for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the general manager of the Reno Bighorns, the Kings' minor-league affiliate. He last played in the NBA for the Kings. On the basketball court, he played both forward or center positions. Abdur-Rahim was a standout player during his high school days. He left University of California, Berkeley after one year to enter the 1996 NBA draft.
In his early NBA career, Abdur-Rahim was the star of the Vancouver Grizzlies for five seasons. He was traded by the Grizzlies in 2001 and then played for the Atlanta Hawks and Portland Trail Blazers before joining his last team, the Sacramento Kings. Nicknamed "Reef", Abdur-Rahim was named an NBA All-Star in the 2001–02 season. He also played on the United States men's national basketball team that won the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Prior to joining the Kings, despite the fact that he achieved solid statistics throughout his career, Abdur-Rahim shared the NBA record for most games played without making a playoff appearance. Following persistent injuries to his right knee, Abdur-Rahim announced his retirement from basketball on September 22, 2008.

John Drew

John Edward Drew (born September 30, 1954) is a retired American professional basketball player. A 6'6" guard/forward from Gardner–Webb University, he played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Drew was a two-time NBA All-Star, and was one of the earliest casualties of the drug policy instituted by commissioner David Stern.

Joe Caldwell

Joe Louis Caldwell (born November 1, 1941) is a retired American professional basketball player. Caldwell played six seasons (1964–1970) in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and five seasons (1970–1975) in the American Basketball Association (ABA). Caldwell was one of the few players to be an All-Star in both leagues, making 2 All-Star teams in each league. Caldwell was a member of the United States Olympic basketball team that won the gold medal in the 1964 Summer Olympics. Caldwell was Team USA's fourth leading scorer.

Randy Wittman

Randy Scott Wittman (born October 28, 1959) is an American retired basketball player at the guard position and former coach of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Washington Wizards.

Josh Smith

Joshua Smith (born December 5, 1985) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Entering the NBA straight out of high school, Smith played nine seasons with the Atlanta Hawks before playing for the Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers between 2013 and 2016. He is sometimes referred to by his nickname "J-Smoove".

Toni Kukoč

Toni Kukoč (pronounced [kukotʃ]; born September 18, 1968) is a Croatian retired professional basketball player who is currently Special Advisor to Jerry Reinsdorf, the owner of the Chicago Bulls. After a highly successful period in European basketball, he was one of the first established European stars to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in 1996.
Kukoč was renowned for his versatility and passing ability; although his natural position was small forward, he played all five positions on the court with prowess and demonstrated court vision and an outside shooting touch that were found seldom in players of his height. Together with Vassilis Spanoulis, they are the only players in history to achieve the EuroLeague Final Four MVP honor on three occasions. He was elected to the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2017.

Kent Bazemore

Kenneth Lamont "Kent" Bazemore Jr. (born July 1, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). As a junior at Old Dominion University in 2010–11, Bazemore won the Lefty Driesell Award, an award given to the best defensive player in college basketball.

Jim Jackson

James Jackson (born October 14, 1970) is an American retired professional basketball player. Over his 14 NBA seasons, Jackson was on the active roster of 12 different teams, tying the league record shared with Joe Smith, Tony Massenburg and Chucky Brown. He is currently a basketball analyst for Fox Sports 1, having previously worked for the Big Ten Network.

Al Harrington

Albert Harrington (born February 17, 1980) is an American former professional basketball player. Selected with the 25th overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft, Harrington played 16 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards. He also spent a short stint with the Fujian Sturgeons of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
Since retiring from the NBA, Harrington has become an entrepreneur in the cannabis industry.  Harrington is a cousin of NBA player Dahntay Jones.

DeMarre Carroll

DeMarre LaEdrick Carroll (born July 27, 1986) is an American professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Carroll was selected 27th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2009 NBA draft and has also played for the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, and Brooklyn Nets. Carroll formerly played for the University of Missouri and Vanderbilt University. He is the nephew of former Missouri and former Arkansas men's basketball coach Mike Anderson.

Vince Carter

Vincent Lamar Carter (born January 26, 1977) is an American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) tall and plays both shooting guard and small forward. Carter is one of five players that have played an NBA-record 21 seasons. He is widely regarded as the greatest dunker of all time.A high school McDonald's All-American, Carter played three years at the University of North Carolina. While there, he twice reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament before being selected as the fifth overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors, who traded him to the Toronto Raptors. 
Carter emerged as a star in Toronto. He won the 1999 NBA Rookie of the Year Award and won the Slam Dunk Contest at the 2000 NBA All-Star Weekend. That summer, he represented the United States in the Summer Olympics, winning a gold medal. He entertained crowds with his leaping ability and slam dunks, earning nicknames such as "Vinsanity", "Air Canada", and "Half-Man, Half-Amazing". In December 2004, Carter was traded to the New Jersey Nets, where he continued to put up big numbers. Carter has also played for the Orlando Magic, the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Sacramento Kings, and the Atlanta Hawks. He received the Twyman–Stokes Teammate of the Year Award in 2016. Carter is an eight-time NBA All-Star.
Off the court, Carter established the Embassy of Hope Foundation, assisting children and their families in Florida, New Jersey and Ontario. He was also recognized in 2000 as Child Advocate of the Year by the Children's Home Society, and received the Florida Governor's Points of Light award in 2007 for his philanthropy in his home state.

Kyle Korver

Kyle Elliot Korver (born March 17, 1981) is an American professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Creighton Bluejays and was drafted in the second round of the 2003 NBA draft by the New Jersey Nets. He was immediately traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. After four and a half seasons in Philadelphia, he was traded to the Utah Jazz. During his first stint with the Jazz, in 2009–10, Korver shot 53.6 percent from three-point range, which set an NBA single-season three-point field goal accuracy record. In 2010, he joined the Chicago Bulls. In 2012, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks, where in 2015, he was named NBA All-Star. In 2017, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he was a member of back-to-back Finals teams. In 2018, he was traded back to the Jazz. In 2019, he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Dwight Eddleman

Thomas Dwight "Dike" Eddleman (December 27, 1922 – August 1, 2001) is generally considered the greatest athlete in the history of athletics at the University of Illinois.  Eddleman participated on the University's basketball, track and field, and football teams between the years of 1942 and 1949.  Eddleman earned a combined 11 varsity letters in his career at the University, during which he also became a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.  Eddleman was born in Centralia, Illinois, and attended Centralia High School.  On October 24, 2008 Eddleman was named a Distinguished Alumni of Centralia High school.  He, along with five others, including James Brady, were the first to be named Distinguished Alumni.  His wife, Teddy Eddleman, accepted his award.
Beginning in 1969, Eddleman served the University of Illinois as a fundraiser for the athletic department.  In tribute to his  years of service to the University's athletics, in 1993, the University of Illinois athlete of the year awards for both men and women were named in his honor.  In 2002, the portion of Fourth Street in Champaign, Illinois that runs along the east side of Memorial Stadium between Peabody Drive and Kirby Street was designated Honorary Dike Eddleman Way (a street in his hometown of Centralia, Third Street, which runs past the old high school, is also designated Dike Eddleman Way).
In 1983, Eddleman was inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations Hall of Fame.

Stacey Augmon

Stacey Orlando Augmon (born August 1, 1968) is an American basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for player development for the Sacramento Kings.  He played professionally in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He gained the nickname "Plastic Man" due to his athletic ability to "stretch".  He was also an assistant coach at his alma mater UNLV under coach Dave Rice. He was previously the head coach of Jeonju KCC Egis of the Korean Basketball League.

Tom Van Arsdale

Thomas Arthur Van Arsdale (born February 22, 1943) is a former professional basketball player.  A graduate of Indianapolis Emmerich Manual High School, the 6'5" guard played collegiately at Indiana University, Van Arsdale was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 2nd round of the 1965 NBA draft.  He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team in 1966, together with his identical twin brother Dick Van Arsdale.  Van Arsdale played in the NBA for 12 seasons; with the Pistons, the Cincinnati Royals, the Kansas City–Omaha Kings, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Phoenix Suns.    Van Arsdale, a three-time All-Star, was consistently over his career one of the best free throw shooters in the NBA.  He retired from play in 1977.
Van Arsdale still holds the NBA record for most career games played without a playoff appearance.  Van Arsdale played 929 games without making a single playoff appearance.  Van Arsdale is also the highest scoring player (14,232 career points) in NBA history without a playoff appearance.
Born in Indianapolis, he is the identical twin of Dick Van Arsdale.  The two brothers played together during the 1976–77 season, which was the final year of play for both. The original lockers of both Tom and Dick remain in the display case in the lobby of the Emmerich Manual High School gymnasium.

Josh Childress

Joshua Malik Childress (born June 20, 1983) is an American professional basketball player for the San-en NeoPhoenix of the Japanese B.League. An All-EuroLeague Second Team member in 2010, he has played with the Atlanta Hawks, Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans of the NBA, and Olympiacos Piraeus of the Greek Basket League and EuroLeague.

Marvin Williams

Marvin Gaye Williams Jr. (born June 19, 1986) is an American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played one season of college basketball for North Carolina before being drafted second overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2005 NBA draft. After seven seasons with the Hawks, he was traded to the Utah Jazz. He spent two seasons with the Jazz before joining the Hornets in 2014.

Glenn Robinson

Glenn Alan Robinson Jr. (born January 10, 1973) is an American former professional basketball player. Nicknamed Big Dog, he played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1994 to 2005 for the Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, and San Antonio Spurs. Robinson attended Purdue University, was the first overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft, and is the father of Glenn Robinson III, who played college basketball at the University of Michigan and plays in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors.

Marco Belinelli

Marco Stefano Belinelli (Italian pronunciation: [ˈmarko beliˈnɛlli]; born 25 March 1986) is an Italian professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected 18th overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors. In 2014, he won the NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs, becoming the first Italian player to do so. He won the NBA Three-Point Shootout during the 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend. He played in the 2007, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 editions of the FIBA EuroBasket and the 2006 FIBA World Championship with the Italian national basketball team.

Willie Naulls

William Dean Naulls (October 7, 1934 – November 22, 2018) was an American professional basketball player for 10 years in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was a four-time NBA All-Star with the New York Knicks and won three NBA championships with the Boston Celtics.
Naulls grew up in California, where he was named the state's Mr. Basketball in high school.  He played college basketball with the UCLA Bruins, and earned All-American honors as a senior in 1956. Naulls was selected by the St. Louis Hawks (known now as the Atlanta Hawks) with the ninth overall pick of the 1956 NBA draft. He played briefly with St. Louis before being traded to New York, where he spent most of his career. With the Knicks, he became the first African American to be named a captain of a professional team in a major American sport. After a brief stint with the San Francisco Warriors (now the Golden State Warriors), Naulls finished his career with Boston. In December 1964, he was part of a Celtics unit that became the first all-black starting lineup in NBA history.

Ken Norman

Kenneth Darnel Norman (born September 5, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player. After graduating from Chicago's Crane High School, Kenny was a standout forward for the Illinois Fighting Illini who was selected 19th overall by the Los Angeles Clippers of the 1987 NBA Draft. Norman  was elected to the "Illinois Men's Basketball All-Century Team" in 2004.
