Stand-up comedy is difficult to pull off. A comedian needs to be able to appeal to the widest audience possible while still staying true to themselves. For stand-up fans, it would serve them well to seek out diverse comedians who provide scathing commentary on a variety of issues. Fortunately, there are plenty of great black comedy specials on Netflix, Hulu, and Comedy Central. From legends like Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle to newer comedians like Trevor Noah and the Lucas Brothers, there is no shortage of incredible comedy coming from black artists.
Some of these stand-ups turn most of their attention toward American politics. Michael Che provides a droll delivery on the experiences of being a black man in America's modern justice system. Meanwhile, other comedians, like Hannibal Buress, focus on much lighter fare. He'll joke about pickle juice or letting Beyoncé punch his mom, but at the same time, he's not afraid to tackle more serious subjects.
Out of all of these black stand-up specials, which do you think are the best? Do you like comedy that came out this year or the classics like Richard Pryor? If you consider yourself a comedy fan, then vote for your favorites below.
