The Buffalo Sabres were founded in 1970 (along with Vancouver Canucks) when the NFL decided to expand to 14 teams. Kent Nilsson

The Calgary Flames were founded in 1972 in Atlanta Georgia as the Atlanta Flames. They moved to Calgary in 1980, becoming the third professional team to represent the city, following the Calgary Tigers and the Calgary Cowboys. Doug Wilson

One of the original six NHL franchises, the Chicago Blackhawks were founded way back in 1926. Since then, they've won five Stanley Cups (in 1934, 1938, 1961, 2010, and 2013). When the Colorado Avalanche joined the NHL in 1995, they did it in a big way. After moving from Quebec, where they were the Nordiques, they made the play-offs an insane nine times in ten years, and turned two of those playoff seasons into Stanley Cup wins. Two Stanley Cups is impressive on its own, but a 90% playoff showing is unheard of. The Dallas Stars were founded in 1967, and the greatest Dallas platers of all time have been both <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/best-stars-goalies-ever/ranker-hockey" target="_blank">top Stars goalies</a> and top goalscorers.. Originally they were the Minnesota North Stars, relocating to Dallas in 1993. The Stars have seven division titles, have won the Western Conference twice, the Presidents&#39; Trophy twice, and went home with the Stanley Cup itself in 1999. Times have been tough for the Stars of late, but with new owner, Tom Gaglardi, joining the team in 2011, perhaps they are building to turn things around.

Dustin Brown

Since the team&#39;s inception in 1967, the Kings were known as one of the NHL&#39;s perennial disappointments and underacheiving teams in the league. Mike Liut

Michael "Mike" Dennis Liut (born January 7, 1956) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender.
Liut played for the Cincinnati Stingers of the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1977 to 1979 and for the St. Louis Blues, Hartford Whalers, and Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1992. He won the 1981 Lester B. Pearson Award for being the most valuable player according to his fellow players, and posted the league's best goals against average in 1989–90.

Grant Fuhr

Grant Scott Fuhr (born September 28, 1962) is a Canadian former ice hockey goaltender in the National Hockey League and former goaltending coach for the Arizona Coyotes. In 2003, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He is best remembered for a decade of stellar play for the Edmonton Oilers in the 1980s. He won a total of five Stanley Cups and was a six time All-Star. In 2017 Fuhr was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. He set a number of firsts for black hockey players in the NHL, including being the first to win the Stanley Cup and being the first inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Jake Allen

Jake Allen (born August 7, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL). Allen was selected by the Blues in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft with the 34th overall pick. Allen won the Stanley Cup in 2019 with the Blues.

Curtis Joseph

Curtis Shayne "Cujo" Joseph (né Munro; April 29, 1967) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former professional player. He last played for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League during the 2008–09 NHL season.Joseph is immediately recognizable on the ice for his masks featuring a snarling dog, drawing inspiration from the Stephen King novel Cujo, which also happens to be his nickname, derived from the first two letters of his first and last names. Throughout his NHL career, Joseph played for a number of franchises, rising to prominence during the playoffs with the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He also played for the Detroit Red Wings, Phoenix Coyotes and Calgary Flames. He was also a member of Canada's gold medal winning team at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Joseph retired with the most career wins (454) of any goaltender in NHL history who never played on a Stanley Cup-winning team (which has since been surpassed by Roberto Luongo), and was also the first goaltender to have 30 or more wins in a regular season for five different teams.



Jaroslav Halák

Jaroslav Halák (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈjaɾɔslaʊ̯ ˈɦalaːk]; born 13 May 1985) is a Slovak professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing with the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL). Halák was the 271st overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the ninth and final round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Halák first played for the Canadiens during the 2006–07 season, and remained with the team until being traded to the St. Louis Blues after the 2009–10 season. He played for the Blues until the 2013–14 season when he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres. Before playing a game with the Sabres, he was traded to the Washington Capitals, whom he only played for in 12 games before his rights were once again traded, this time to the New York Islanders. He signed a four-year contract with the Islanders in May 2014, and signed with the Bruins after that contract expired.

Greg Millen

Gregory H. Millen (born June 25, 1957) is a Canadian hockey commentator analyst and was an ice hockey goaltender in the National Hockey League. He is currently the colour commentator partnered with play-by-play announcer Paul Romanuk, and, later, John Bartlett, for local television broadcasts of Toronto Maple Leafs hockey games on Sportsnet Ontario. He also works on Hockey Night in Canada, where he is paired with Bob Cole.
Millen made over 600 appearances for six teams during his 14 NHL seasons.

Brian Elliott

Brian Elliott (born April 9, 1985) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the ninth round, 291st overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. A two-time NHL All-Star in 2012 and 2015, Elliott has also played in the NHL for the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames.

Glenn Hall

Glenn Henry "Mr. Goalie" Hall (born October 3, 1931) is a former professional ice hockey goaltender. During his National Hockey League career with the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Black Hawks, and St. Louis Blues, Hall seldom missed a game and was a consistent performer, winning the Vezina Trophy, which at the time was awarded to the goaltender on the team allowing the fewest goals against (a distinction that now results in being awarded the William M. Jennings Trophy), three times, being voted the First Team All-Star goaltender a record seven times, and winning the Calder Memorial Trophy as best rookie. Nicknamed "Mr. Goalie", he was the first goaltender to develop and make effective use of the butterfly style of goalkeeping. In 2017 Hall was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. He is the grandfather of Grant Stevenson.

Rick Wamsley

Richard James Wamsley (born May 25, 1959) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was the goaltending coach for the NHL's Ottawa Senators until his firing by new general manager Pierre Dorion on April 12, 2016.Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1979, Wamsley played with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs before being called up to the big team. He spent three successful seasons in Montreal before being shipped to St. Louis in exchange for the draft picks which the Canadiens would ultimately use to select future players Shayne Corson and Stéphane Richer.
Wamsley and Denis Herron shared the William M. Jennings Trophy with Montreal in 1982. Wamsley was traded to the Calgary Flames with Rob Ramage for Brett Hull and would be a part of their Stanley Cup team in 1989. He previously served as a goaltending coach for the St. Louis Blues and pro scout and goaltending coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Prior to joining the Blue Jackets, Wamsley spent six seasons as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. While in Toronto, he served as a pro and amateur scout in 1998–99 and was an assistant coach under Pat Burns from 1996–98. Wamsley joined the Leafs' organization as a goaltending consultant immediately after retiring from playing following the 1992–93 season. On July 28, 2010, Wamsley joined the Ottawa Senators organization in the capacity of goaltending coach.

Manny Legace

Emmanuel Legace (born February 4, 1973) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender, who played most notably in the National Hockey League for the Detroit Red Wings, and later the St. Louis Blues. Legace also enjoyed spells with the Los Angeles Kings, Carolina Hurricanes, and Iserlohn Roosters of the DEL. He finished his playing career for the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, for whom he is the career leader in goaltending wins.
Legace was born in Toronto, Ontario, but grew up in Alliston, Ontario.



Jordan Binnington

Jordan Binnington (born July 11, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL). 
Binnington was raised in Richmond Hill and Toronto, Ontario. He was drafted by the Blues in the third round, 88th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He spent seven seasons in the minor leagues, with a brief call-up to the NHL in 2014 as an emergency goaltender. Binnington played for Canada in the 2013 IIHF World U20 Championship. In December 2018, he was called up by the Blues and within a month became their starting goaltender. His play helped the team improve from last place in the league to winning the 2019 Stanley Cup championship. He is the first NHL rookie goaltender to earn a maximum of 16 wins in a single postseason.

Roman Turek

Roman Turek (born May 21, 1970) is a Czech former professional ice hockey goaltender who played for the Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames in a nine-year National Hockey League (NHL) career. He last played in the Czech Extraliga for HC České Budějovice.

Brent Johnson

Brent Spencer Johnson (born March 12, 1977) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League for the St. Louis Blues, Phoenix Coyotes, Washington Capitals, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is currently a studio analyst for NBC Sports Washington.

Vincent Riendeau

Vincent Joseph Riendeau (born April 20, 1966) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey goaltender.  During his time in the National Hockey League, Riendeau played for the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings, and the Boston Bruins. Riendeau holds the distinction of being the first Canadian and former NHL player to sign with a professional hockey team in the Russian Superleague.  He currently (as of January 2019) acts as the director of goalie development for the Canadiens.

Edward Emile Staniowski (born July 7, 1955 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender who played for the St. Louis Blues, Winnipeg Jets and Hartford Whalers in the National Hockey League.  He played 219 games in his NHL career between 1975 and 1985, winning 67, losing 104 and tying 21.  He was a Western Canada Hockey League First Team All-Star in 1975 while playing with the Regina Pats, and was named the inaugural recipient of the CHL Player of the Year Award.

Christopher Robert Mason (born April 20, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He most recently played with Augsburger Panther of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He previously played for four different National Hockey League (NHL) teams. Mason currently serves as the colour analyst covering Predators games broadcast on FOX Sports Tennessee.

Jamie McLennan

Jamie McLennan (born June 30, 1971) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey goaltender who is now an analyst for TSN, TSN Radio 1050, NBC Sports and NHL Network. He spent eleven seasons in the National Hockey League with the New York Islanders (1993–96), St. Louis Blues (1997–2000), Minnesota Wild (2000–01), Calgary Flames (2002–04, 2006–07), New York Rangers (2004) and Florida Panthers (2005–06). His active playing career ended in 2008 after a year with the Nippon Paper Cranes of Asia League Ice Hockey. He is popularly known by his nickname Noodles because of his preference for eating homemade pasta instead of diner food on minor-league bus rides before away games.

Chris Osgood

Christopher John Osgood (born November 26, 1972) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He is ranked twelfth in wins in NHL regular season history with 401.Osgood spent the first part of his 17-year NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings, then the New York Islanders and the St. Louis Blues before returning to Detroit in 2005. He won three Stanley Cup championships in his career, all with the Red Wings, with two of them coming while he was starting goaltender. Osgood was known in Detroit by his nicknames "Ozzie," chanted by the crowd after a big save, and "The Wizard of Oz." Osgood is currently a Detroit Red Wings studio analyst and part-time color commentator for Fox Sports Detroit.
He was the last NHL goalie to wear a traditional player's helmet/cage combo instead of the newer one piece goalie mask as he was grandfathered by the NHL, until Rick DiPietro briefly wore one in 2011 with a cage that Osgood actually used to wear, after DiPietro was injured in a fight with Brent Johnson. He is also one of only 11 goaltenders in NHL history to have scored a goal, and one of only six to have scored by shooting the puck directly into the opponent's net (not an "own goal"), on March 6, 1996 versus the Hartford Whalers.



Joseph Jacques Omer Plante (French pronunciation: ​[ʒɑk plɑ̃t]; January 17, 1929 – February 27, 1986) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. During a career lasting from 1947 to 1975, he was considered to be one of the most important innovators in hockey. He played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1953 to 1963; during his tenure, the team won the Stanley Cup six times, including five consecutive wins. In 2017 Plante was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in history.Plante retired in 1965 but was persuaded to return to the National Hockey League to play for the expansion St. Louis Blues in 1968. He was later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1970 and to the Boston Bruins in 1973. He joined the World Hockey Association as coach and general manager for the Quebec Nordiques in 1973–74. He then played goal for the Edmonton Oilers in 1974–75, ending his professional career with that team.
Plante was the first NHL goaltender to wear a goaltender mask in regulation play on a regular basis. He developed and tested many versions of the mask (including the forerunner of today's mask/helmet combination) with the assistance of other experts. Plante was the first NHL goaltender to regularly play the puck outside his crease in support of his team's defencemen, and he often instructed his teammates from behind the play. Plante was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978, was chosen as the goaltender of the Canadiens' "dream team" in 1985, and was inducted into the Quebec Sports Pantheon in 1994. The Montreal Canadiens retired Plante's jersey, #1, the following year. Plante ranks seventh among NHL goalies for all-time career wins with 437.

Phil Myre

Philippe Louis Myre (born November 1, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Montreal Canadiens, Atlanta Flames, St. Louis Blues, Philadelphia Flyers, Colorado Rockies and Buffalo Sabres. Myre was born in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec.



John Davidson

John Arthur Davidson (born February 27, 1953) is a Canadian professional ice hockey executive and former player. He is the current president of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). As a player, he played for the St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers in the NHL. He is also well known as a long-time hockey broadcaster. On June 4, 2009, it was announced that Davidson would be honored by the Hockey Hall of Fame with the 2009 Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for his contributions to broadcasting.

Eddie Johnston

Edward Joseph Johnston (born November 24, 1935) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender and former coach and general manager in the National Hockey League.  His professional career spanned fifty-three years (twenty-two as a player and thirty-one in management), mostly in the NHL. He won two Stanley Cups as a player with the Boston Bruins in 1970 and 1972, and a third in 2009 as senior advisor for hockey operations with the Pittsburgh Penguins, an organization he served in various capacities for twenty-five years.  He was the last NHL goaltender to play every minute of every game in a season, in 1963–64.
