The best books for fourth graders include some fantastic selections, including sweeping adventure books and other great chapter books for kids. Which books are the best for this age? This list includes a lot of good options, from classics to contemporary chapter books for 4th grade. All will no doubt keep children engaged and reading. Be sure to vote for the books you like the most, vote down any that you don't like -- and of course, add any selections that might be missing.

By the time children enter the fourth grade, they've likely started reading more and more on their own. This is an excellent time for kids to discover the wonders of a great book series. Fourth graders might fall in love with the characters from C.S. Lewis' iconic 'Chronicles of Narnia' series. They might also like Rick Riordan's wildly popular 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' series, the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' series by Jeff Kinney, or the 'Holes' series by Louis Sachar.

Classics are not neglected on this suggested fourth grade reading list. Kids around this age might really enjoy reading such wonderful books as 'A Wrinkle in Time,' 'The Secret Garden,' 'The Wind in the Willows' and 'Where the Red Fern Grows.' And it's hard to go wrong with Judy Blume's 'Fudge-a-Mania' and 'Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.'

Some of the books listed here are also included among the best books for third graders, but it all depends on a child's individual reading level. Any list of great books to read to kids will include many of the books on this list.
