The most hated Game of Thrones characters are despised for a number of reasons. Others torture prostitutes instead of just sleeping with them like normal boys. Others retreat from attacks on the city while sending the common folk into battle. Wait, those people are all Joffrey Baratheon.&nbsp;

As it turns out, however, Joffrey is not the only detestable GoT character (go fig), but is joined by multiple <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/the-best-members-of-house-lannister/ranker-of-thrones" target="_blank">members of his family</a> as well as a slew of other morally flexible citizens of the realm of Westeros. Whether they murder, lie, cheat, steal, or all of the above, there are plenty of people to hate in a series that regularly kills off fan favorite characters (and imprisons, rapes, and slanders others).

While there is no shortage&nbsp;of Game of Thrones&nbsp;characters who made terrible decisions,&nbsp;some choices are definitively worse than others. Right from <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/game-of-thrones-season-1-recap/ranker-of-thrones" target="_blank">the first season of Game of Thrones</a>, Sandor Clegane has been a fan favorite. Through several seasons of character development, however, the man they call the Hound has grown as both an individual and an object of viewer admiration. It might even be fair to call him an outright hero as of the series&rsquo; final season.

Clegane had a traumatic childhood&mdash;including a fiery assault from his brother that caused his facial deformity&mdash;and an even more violent adulthood. As a longtime Lannister guard and then a member of Joffrey Baratheon&rsquo;s Kingsguard, Sandor has an awful lot of opportunity to do bad, but somehow&nbsp;he still manages to find himself on the side of good by the end of it all. One might even say that the Hound has been a hero at heart all this time. But you certainly won&rsquo;t catch him saying it.&nbsp;

Game of Thrones&nbsp;fans knew it wasn&#39;t wise to become too attached to their favorite characters. Over the course of the hit HBO show based on George R.R. Martin&#39;s A Song of Ice and Fire book series of books, Game of Thrones proved&nbsp;time and time again that major characters could shockingly be dispatched without much warning. Fortunately, the many Game of Thrones deaths lead to some excellent, and occasionally poignant, Game of Thrones quotes, as GoT characters utter their last words.

Before a character shuffles off this mortal coil (or do they?!?!?), sometimes he or she says something profound, silly, inspiring, desperate, or tragic. With the finale of Game of Thrones quickly approaching, the cast is trying their best to keep leaks and slip-ups from making it out into the world. However, fans feel so thirsty for any Game of Thrones&nbsp;Season 8 leaks, they read into every little thing&nbsp;the&nbsp;cast does. Of course, the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/game-of-thrones-season-8-fan-theories/stephanroget" target="_blank">Game of Thrones</a>&nbsp;cast slips up from time to time; after all, they&#39;re human, not Valyrian. While these teases might sound cruel, they actually provide&nbsp;fantastic press for the finale of the series that brought high fantasy to mainstream television. Even if you read the books very carefully, you could still find yourself reeling;&nbsp;Game of Thrones history&nbsp;is just that dense.

For example, did you know that <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/robert-baratheon-quotes/ranker-of-thrones?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">Robert Baratheon</a> and Ned Stark grew up together as wards of Jon Arryn? Do you know why Daenerys named one of her dragons Rhaegal? Do you know who broke up Tyrion&#39;s first marriage? And why does Littlefinger seem to hate everybody? All of these tidbits come from events that occurred before the show even starts!

George R.R. Martin fully intended to complete&nbsp;<a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/george-r-r-martins-original-ending-to-game-of-thrones/stephanroget?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">A Song of Ice and Fire</a> before HBO&nbsp;finished&nbsp;adapting his beloved book series into a television show. But unfortunately for the legions of fans who prefer the books to the show, that&rsquo;s <a href="https://ew.com/books/2018/12/11/george-r-r-martin-promises-he-will-finish-his-game-of-thrones-novels/" target="_blank">no longer a possibility</a>.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/game-of-thrones-plot-points-you-forgot/michaelgraff" target="_blank">Game of Thrones</a>&nbsp;TV series surpassed&nbsp;Martin&rsquo;s written work&nbsp;in Season 7. The eighth and final season of the show, which premiered in April 2019 and concluded six weeks later, delved into relatively new territory.

The author&#39;s books, however, contain such depth&nbsp;that there are still numerous important book events the HBO show excised from its adaptation of the saga. It&#39;s too late for those&nbsp;A&nbsp;Song of Ice and Fire storylines to appear on the show - but for years there was plenty of speculation about what may or may not make the cut.

It&#39;s been a long time coming: Game of Thrones Season 8 is set to debut in April 2019. The clock is ticking, and fans only have one more season of Game of Thrones to say goodbye to <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/every-character-arc-in-season-7-of-game-of-thrones/rebecca-shortall" target="_blank">their favorite characters</a>. Whether that farewell is happy or&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/why-varys-will-betray-daenerys/zack-howe" target="_blank">soaked in blood</a>&nbsp;is yet to be seen, depending on the direction taken by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.&nbsp;

Expect major conflicts, significant losses, and a tearful (if impermanent) farewell to Westeros.&nbsp;

Season 8&nbsp;of Game of Thrones finally&nbsp;sees the Night King and his white walkers cross into Westeros&nbsp;on a path of doom, presumably one&nbsp;that leads straight through&nbsp;Winterfell&nbsp;to&nbsp;King&#39;s Landing. Additionally, the characters may finally learn the truth about Jon&#39;s true lineage and his right to <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/26-famous-pop-culture-figures-sitting-on-the-iron-throne/chaz-fletcher?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">the Iron Throne</a>. The way this&nbsp;all plays out is anyone&#39;s guess, but it&#39;s possible to&nbsp;make&nbsp;predictions based on what we know so far.&nbsp;

Game of Thrones&nbsp;featured one of the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/game-of-thrones-scenes-hidden-meanings/lisa-waugh" target="_blank">most intricately woven plots</a>&nbsp;in television history, which means it was easy to get lost amidst the expansive narrative and its far-flung cast of characters. There&#39;s only so many Stark siblings one can reasonably keep track of at a given time.

That breadth never dampened fans&#39; collective enthusiasm - not even during the lengthy intermission between the&nbsp;final two seasons as the series&nbsp;entered its endgame. But for late arrivers and repeat viewers, this should serve as a handy guide for where everyone left off after&nbsp;Game of Thrones&#39; penultimate season, leading directly into its six-episode capstone.

Winter&nbsp;finally came for Winterfell. After two episodes &ndash; and most of last season &ndash; prepping, the battle between the North and the Night King&#39;s army arrived on Game of Thrones. Fans were simultaneously looking forward to and dreading the battle,&nbsp;knowing full well that many of their favorite characters could be on the chopping block. A fair number of people did drop this week &ndash; though not as many as a lot of people were guessing &ndash; and those weren&#39;t even the biggest parts of the episode.&nbsp;

Between deaths, dragon fights, a major character&#39;s return, and more, the Battle of Winterfell lived up to what it promised and more.&nbsp;

Arriving near the end of&nbsp;Game of Thrones&#39; nearly decade-long run, &quot;A Knight of <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/aquaman-what-are-the-seven-kingdoms/jonathan-kantor?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">the Seven Kingdoms</a>&quot; - the second episode of the climactic season - provides fans a final chance to enjoy some downtime with beloved characters before the Long Night comes for them.
