Floyd Smith was the first Sabres head coach to lead the team to a Stanley Cup finals, which he did in 1975. Smith's Sabres lost to the Flyers four games to two. The only other Sabres head coach to lead the team to a Stanley Cup finals was Lindy Ruff in 1999.
