Murphy entered the horror genre with the miniseries American Horror Story, which was set in a murder house during its debut season and an insane asylum in its second. AHS also featured an ensemble cast led by legendary actress Jessica Lange. In 2012, Murphy co-created the half-hour comedy The New Normal, a sitcom following a gay couple trying to have a baby through a surrogate.
