The best college football players of 2011 might not all be Heisman Trophy winners like 2011 recipient Robert Griffin III, but each brought something special and valuable to their respective NCAA Football teams. These fine men will be remembered as the top stars of college football for the 2011 season and many will continue their success in the National Football League for years to come.
Many earned individual awards for their performances including Trent Richardson of the Alabam Crimson Tide, who was given the Doak Walker Award as the top running back, Justin Blackmon of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who was selected for the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the top wide reciever, and Tyrann Mathieu of the LSU Tigers, who was honored with the Chuck Bednarik Award as the defensive player of the year.
Others simply played a crucial role in helping their teams find success throughout the season, upset their rivals in a convincing fashion and rise in the BCS standings. Players from the top two teams, the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide, were especially outstanding during the season and helped the squads earn a place in the BCS National Championship Game.
But just like only one team of many can win the national title, only one player received the top honor as the best college football player of the season, the Heisman Trophy. Star quarterback Robert Griffin III of the Baylor Bears took home that hardware after a stellar season in which he passed for nearly 4,000 yards and 36 touchdowns.
The top college football players from the 2011 season gave their all on the field as they helped their teams achieve great things during the year. But of the hundreds of college football players that suit up each season, these men stood above the rest as the best of the bunch. They may be overshadowed by others as they continue on in their careers but they will always have this season as one to look back upon and be proud of.Check out more lists like the greatest sports movies, the sexiest NFL partners and the hottest female athletes.
