Who are the best hitting pitchers currently in the MLB? Also referred to as pitchers who rake, these are the guys who can put the ball in play and get on base—and they're rare cases. There's no denying the fact that the vast majority of MLB pitchers, both old and new, have never been the best at hitting. In fact, pitchers have always been known to be terrible hitters. They only get at-bats every five days or so, and the American League guys don't even have to step up to the plate. So while they may not be the best hitters currently in the MLB, these are the best hitting pitchers in baseball today.
With the exception of Shohei Ohtani (who gets additional at-bats as a DH), Madison Bumgarner is easily one of the best hitting pitchers of his time, not to mention one of the best pitchers out right now. He leads active pitchers in career home runs, and he belts them as hard as top batters in the league. Home runs aside, however, Zack Greinke and Adam Wainwright know how to put the ball in play—and they do if fairly often. Then you have the aforementioned sensation Shohei Ohtani, who may very well be the next Babe Ruth. Of all the pitchers who rake right now, he's certainly at the top of his class.
