In their time as an NBA franchise, the Dallas Mavericks Coaches of All Time have gone through many different head coaches, all with different personalities and coaching styles. With that said, who is the best Dallas Mavericks Coaches of All Time coach of all time? Rick Carlisle, the current head coach of the Mavericks, was the first to lead the franchise to an NBA Finals championship. He also leads the franchise in all time playoff victories. Avery Johnson was the first coach to lead the Mavericks to the NBA Finals. Johnson's Mavericks came up short in the 2006 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Dirk Nowitzki

A list of the best Dallas Mavericks of all time. Until Mark Cuban bought the team in 2000, the Dallas Mavericks didn&#39;t have much playoff success outside of a few seasons in the mid-to-late 1980s. The foundation of those early Mavs teams featured some of the best players in its history like Rolando Blackman, Mark Aguirre, and Jay Vincent. Once Derek Harper was brought in as the team&#39;s point guard, it seemed like the recipe for future success was in place. However, the Mavs couldn&#39;t put it all together.&nbsp;Dallas had some of the brightest talent in the league, but couldn&#39;t surpass its powerful Western Conference rivals like the Lakers.

By the time Cuban bought the team, several of the franchise&#39;s best players were on the roster. Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, and MIchael Finley were already some of the NBA&#39;s brightest young players before Cuban arrived. During the early 2000s, these three players became the best in the league and are considered some of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/the-top-nba-players-of-all-time">greatest in basketball history</a>. By the 2005-2006 season, the Mavericks were a Western Conference power and made its first NBA Finals appearance that season. Over the next few years, the Mavs stocked up on great players, like Jason Terry, in order to chase an elusive NBA title. Finally in 2011, behind Nowitzki, widely considered the best Maverick ever, the team won its first NBA championship, getting revenge on the Miami Heat, which had defeated them in 2006.&nbsp;

Michael Finley

Michael Howard Finley (born March 6, 1973) is an American retired professional basketball player and current film producer and also Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Dallas Mavericks. He played 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was a two-time NBA All-Star and won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007.

Mark Aguirre

Mark Anthony Aguirre (born December 10, 1959) is an American retired basketball player in the National Basketball Association. Aguirre was chosen as the first overall pick of the 1981 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks after playing three years at DePaul University. Aguirre played in the NBA from 1981 until 1994 and won two championships with the Detroit Pistons after being traded to Detroit from Dallas in exchange for Adrian Dantley. Aguirre was a three-time All-Star for Dallas.

Shawn Marion

Shawn Dwayne Marion (born May 7, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player who played 16 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Marion finished his career as a four-time NBA All-Star and a one-time NBA champion, helping the Dallas Mavericks win their maiden title in 2011. Nicknamed "The Matrix" by former NBA player Kenny Smith during the preseason of his rookie year, he was widely regarded as one of the most versatile players in the league because of his athleticism and ability to play and defend many positions. He was also known for his unorthodox shooting form.

Vince Carter

Vincent Lamar Carter (born January 26, 1977) is an American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) tall and plays both shooting guard and small forward. Carter is one of five players that have played an NBA-record 21 seasons. He is widely regarded as the greatest dunker of all time.A high school McDonald's All-American, Carter played three years at the University of North Carolina. While there, he twice reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament before being selected as the fifth overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors, who traded him to the Toronto Raptors. 
Carter emerged as a star in Toronto. He won the 1999 NBA Rookie of the Year Award and won the Slam Dunk Contest at the 2000 NBA All-Star Weekend. That summer, he represented the United States in the Summer Olympics, winning a gold medal. He entertained crowds with his leaping ability and slam dunks, earning nicknames such as "Vinsanity", "Air Canada", and "Half-Man, Half-Amazing". In December 2004, Carter was traded to the New Jersey Nets, where he continued to put up big numbers. Carter has also played for the Orlando Magic, the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Sacramento Kings, and the Atlanta Hawks. He received the Twyman–Stokes Teammate of the Year Award in 2016. Carter is an eight-time NBA All-Star.
Off the court, Carter established the Embassy of Hope Foundation, assisting children and their families in Florida, New Jersey and Ontario. He was also recognized in 2000 as Child Advocate of the Year by the Children's Home Society, and received the Florida Governor's Points of Light award in 2007 for his philanthropy in his home state.

Josh Howard

Joshua Jay Howard (born April 28, 1980) is an American former professional basketball player who is currently the head coach of Piedmont International University. He played college basketball for Wake Forest.

Jamal Mashburn

Jamal Mashburn (born November 29, 1972) is a retired American professional basketball player. Nicknamed the "Monster Mash," Mashburn was a prolific scorer as a small forward in his 12 seasons in the league, with a career scoring average of 19.1 points per game.

Adrian Dantley

Adrian Delano Dantley (born February 28, 1956) is an American retired basketball player who played 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). A forward and six-time NBA All-Star, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2010, he was appointed acting head coach of the Denver Nuggets in the absence of stricken head coach George Karl.

Jim Jackson

James Jackson (born October 14, 1970) is an American retired professional basketball player. Over his 14 NBA seasons, Jackson was on the active roster of 12 different teams, tying the league record shared with Joe Smith, Tony Massenburg and Chucky Brown. He is currently a basketball analyst for Fox Sports 1, having previously worked for the Big Ten Network.

Jerry Stackhouse

Jerry Darnell Stackhouse (born November 5, 1974) is an American basketball coach and retired professional basketball player. He is currently the head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores, and he played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He formerly was the head coach of Raptors 905 and an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies. Additionally, he has worked as an NBA TV analyst.

Antawn Jamison

Antawn Cortez Jamison (; born June 12, 1976) is an American former professional basketball player who played 16 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is currently the Director Of Pro Personnel for the Washington Wizards. He played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels, being named national player of the year in 1998. He was selected by the Toronto Raptors as the fourth overall pick of the 1998 NBA draft, then traded to the Golden State Warriors for former Tar Heel teammate Vince Carter.
Named to the NBA All-Rookie Team with the Warriors, Jamison was a two-time All-Star and won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2004. He was a member of the United States national team in 2006. Upon retiring, he worked as an analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet and as a team scout, working for the Lakers from 2017 before being hired by the Wizards as their director of pro personnel in 2019.

Caron Butler

James Caron Butler (born March 13, 1980) is an American former professional basketball player. During a 14-year career he played for the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, and Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Butler is a two-time NBA All-Star and was the 2002 Big East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year, while playing for the Connecticut Huskies.

Wesley Matthews

Wesley Joel Matthews Jr. (born October 14, 1986) is an American professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Marquette Golden Eagles. He is the son of former NBA player Wes Matthews.

Jay Vincent

Jay Fletcher Vincent (born June 10, 1959) is a retired American professional basketball player.
A 6'7" forward, Vincent played at Michigan State University under coach, Jud Heathcote, where he teamed with Magic Johnson and Greg Kelser to win the 1979 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. Vincent won the Big Ten scoring championship in his junior and senior years. He was then selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the 1981 NBA draft (24th overall pick), and he went on to have a productive 9-year NBA career, playing for the Mavericks (1981–86), Washington Bullets (1986–87), Denver Nuggets (1987–89), San Antonio Spurs (1989), Philadelphia 76ers (1989–1990) and Los Angeles Lakers (1990).  He concluded his NBA career in 1990 with 8,729 career points, 3,167 career rebounds, and 1,124 career assists.
Vincent is the older brother of seven-year NBA player and former NBA coach Sam Vincent.
In August 2010 it was revealed that an East Lansing, Michigan, company owned by Vincent was involved in a scam that defrauded about 20,000 people across the United States out of more than $2 million. On August 18, 2010, Vincent and another man were indicted by a federal grand jury on mail fraud charges stemming from conduct between 2006 and 2009. Vincent later pleaded guilty. In July 2011 he voluntarily revoked his bond and was jailed ahead of his September 2011 sentencing. He was sentenced to five and a half years in prison on September 2, 2011.
Upon being released in March 2016, he worked as a manager at a Battle Creek, Michigan, based restaurant called Juicy Burger until his release from parole in July 2016.

Peja Stojaković

Predrag Stojaković (Serbian Cyrillic: Предраг Стојаковић, pronounced [ˌprêdraːɡ ˈstôjaːkoʋit͜ɕ]; born June 9, 1977), also known by his nickname Peja (pronounced [ˈpêd͡ʑa]), is a Serbian-Greek professional basketball executive and former player. He is currently the director of player personnel and development for the Sacramento Kings.Standing at 6 ft 10 (2.08 m), Stojaković played mostly at the small forward position. He won the NBA Three-point shootout two times, and was the first European-born player to win one of the All-Star Weekend competitions. Stojaković made 1,760 three-point field goals in his career which ranked 10th all-time at the point of his retirement.
After starting in Crvena zvezda and while playing for PAOK, Stojaković was drafted fourteenth overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 1996 NBA draft. In the NBA, he had a breakthrough season in 2000–01 following two seasons on the bench, averaging 20.4 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting .400 from three-point range in his first season as a starter. He finished second in voting for the 2001 Most Improved Player Award. A three-time All-star and a member of the 2004 All-NBA Second Team, Stojaković enjoyed success with the Kings reaching the 2002 Western Conference Finals. He also played for the Indiana Pacers, New Orleans Hornets and Toronto Raptors.  Stojaković won an NBA Championship in 2011 as a member of the Dallas Mavericks.
Stojaković led the Yugoslavian national team to gold medals in the 2001 FIBA EuroBasket and the 2002 FIBA World Championship. Often considered to be one of the greatest European basketball players ever, Peja was named the Euroscar Basketball Player of the Year by the Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport and the Mister Europa Player of the Year twice by the Italian sports magazine Superbasket.
On December 19, 2011, he announced his retirement from basketball. On December 16, 2014, the Sacramento Kings retired his number.

Marquis Daniels

Marquis Antwane Daniels (born January 7, 1981) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball at Auburn University before going undrafted in the 2003 NBA draft. He played his first three years for the Dallas Mavericks before being traded to the Indiana Pacers. Daniels then signed with the Boston Celtics in 2009 and the Milwaukee Bucks in 2012.

Alex English

Alexander English (born January 5, 1954) is an American retired basketball player. He was most recently an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball at the University of South Carolina.
Upon his arrival in Denver in 1980, English commenced an assault on the NBA scoring books. With the erratic, fast-paced, and high-scoring Nuggets, he averaged 21 points through the final 24 games of the 1979-80 season, then proceeded with averages of 24, 25, 28, 26, 28, nearly 30 (in the 1985–86 season), 29, 25, 27, and 18 points per game during his decade-long scoring spree. He also led the Nuggets to nine consecutive playoff appearances, two Midwest Division titles, and the 1985 Western Conference Finals. English set 31 team records throughout his decade in Denver, and was the leading scorer in 55% of the games he played for the Nuggets.
In total, English played 15 seasons in the NBA for four teams, averaging 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game during his NBA career. He was named to eight NBA All-Star teams and made the All-NBA Second Team three times. His number 2 jersey was retired by the Denver Nuggets in 1992 and he was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997.

Sam Perkins

Samuel Perkins (born June 14, 1961) is an American retired professional basketball player and executive. Perkins was a three-time college All-American, was a member of the 1982 national champion North Carolina Tar Heels, and won a gold medal with the 1984 United States men's Olympic basketball team. Perkins played professionally in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 17 seasons.

Rodney McCray

Rodney Earl McCray (born August 29, 1961) is an American former basketball player.  A 6'7" small forward, he spent 10 seasons (1983–93) in the National Basketball Association (NBA), tallying 9,014 career points and 5,087 career rebounds.

Cedric Ceballos

Cedric Ceballos (August 2, 1969) is an American former professional basketball player. As a small forward, he played mostly for the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers, later finishing his National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat.

Harrison Barnes

Harrison Bryce Jordan Barnes (born May 30, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels before being selected by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft with the seventh overall pick. Barnes won an NBA championship with the Warriors in 2015.

Jim Spanarkel

James Gerard Spanarkel (born June 28, 1957) is an American television analyst for the Brooklyn Nets on the YES Network and College Basketball on CBS and a former professional basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Dallas Mavericks. He played college basketball for Duke, where he was an All-American.

Keith Van Horn

Keith Adam Van Horn (born October 23, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. The 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m), 240 pounds (110 kg) forward graduated from Diamond Bar High School in Diamond Bar, California and attended the University of Utah where he went on to be a consensus First Team All-American in 1997. Van Horn finished his career at Utah as the school and Western Athletic Conference (WAC) all-time leading scorer and holds numerous other school records. He led Utah to three NCAA Division I top 25 finishes, including their highest ranking ever in school history (#2).  He received the 1997 ESPN Men's College Basketball Performer of the Year award.Van Horn was selected with the second pick of the 1997 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and was traded to the New Jersey Nets on a draft night trade. Van Horn played for the Nets from 1997 to 2002, leading the Nets in scoring in the 1997–98 and 1998–99 seasons where he averaged over 20 points per game and ranked fifth in the NBA in scoring in the 1999 season. He was a major contributor to the 2001–02 Nets team, leading the team in rebounding and placing second on the team in scoring. During his NBA career, Van Horn also played for the 76ers, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, and Dallas Mavericks.
Van Horn officially retired from the NBA in 2008 and averaged 16.0 points and nearly 7 rebounds per game during his nine-year NBA career.



Terry Duerod

Terry Duerod (born July 29, 1956) is an American retired professional basketball player.
A 6'2" guard, Duerod played college basketball under Dick Vitale at the University of Detroit.  In four seasons at Detroit, Duerod scored 1,690 points, averaging 23.3 points per game during his senior season.
When Vitale accepted a coaching job with the NBA's Detroit Pistons in 1979, the Pistons selected Duerod in the third round of the 1979 NBA draft. Duerod averaged 9.3 points per game during his rookie season in the NBA, shooting 47 percent from the field.  After the Pistons replaced Vitale with Richie Adubato, however, Duerod was left unprotected in the 1980 NBA Expansion Draft, where he was selected by the Dallas Mavericks.
Duerod only played eighteen games for Dallas before being waived.  He was then signed by the Boston Celtics, with whom he would become a fan favorite as the team's twelfth man.  Celtics fans often chanted "Doooo!" whenever Duerod entered games, and he became a frequent subject of discussion among the Celtics' television and radio announcers.  Duerod earned a championship ring when the Celtics won the 1981 NBA Finals over the Houston Rockets.
Duerod played one more season with the Celtics, then played five games for the Golden State Warriors during the 1982–83 season. In his NBA career, he averaged 6.7 points per game.  He was inducted into the University of Detroit's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.
Duerod served as a Detroit firefighter for 27 years, mostly driving fire trucks. Duerod also played on the fire department's basketball team. He retired because of the department's mandatory retirement policy.
