List Rules Vote up the movies that would make you think "I should lock this down" if your significant other suggested them on date night.

What’s better than watching a really good horror movie with someone you want to smooch? Scary movies don’t just make us jump and scream, they bring us closer together - which is exactly what you want when you’re hanging out with a cutie.

More than any other cinephiles, horror fans have special connections to the movies they choose. That means the horror movies your crush picks for date night hold very specific connotations. Are they drawn towards the great horror films of yesteryear - filled with dramatic tension and allegory - or do they prefer the gritty realism of 2000s slasher flicks?

You can learn a lot from studying creepy movies; after all, they are modeled to resemble our dreams and greatest fears. So when your significant other really wants to watch something spooky, it’s not just saying something about your relationship - it’s saying something about them.

The Shining is listed (or ranked) 1 on the list If Bae Suggests Any Of These Horror Movies On Date Night, You Know They're The One

Why This Movie Is Super Scary: It's hard to pinpoint a singular thing that's scary about The Shining. The atmosphere, the long hallways of the Overlook Hotel that beckon the viewer to fall deep into its bowels, the woman in room 237 - everything about the movie comes together like a hand around the viewer's throat.

What This Movie Says About Your Significant Other: The Shining isn't just one of the best horror movies ever made, it's one of the best movies ever made, period. If bae wants to watch this, they're smart but not too pretentious. Assuming they're not a tormented, aging writer, you should be in the clear.

Actors: Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Scatman Crothers, Barry Dennen, Barry Nelson, + more

Released: 1980

Directed by: Stanley Kubrick

Halloween (2018)
Halloween is listed (or ranked) 2 on the list If Bae Suggests Any Of These Horror Movies On Date Night, You Know They're The One
Photo: Halloween/Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

Why This Movie Is Super Scary: Michael Myers is back and this time he's not weighed down by all that unnecessary backstory. In full-on "shape" form, Myers breaks out of a psychiatric institution and terrorizes the good folks of Haddonfield, IL, without missing a beat. It's like he never took a multi-decade break from hunting unsuspecting teens. Along with Myers, Laurie Strode is back, and she's not in the mood to be a final girl.

What This Movie Says About Your Significant Other: Like Strode, they'll give up their life just to make sure you're safe. That or they have a very intense Captain Kirk mask kink. You'll have to get closer to them to find out which way they're leaning.

Actors: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Nick Castle

Released: 2018

Directed by: David Gordon Green

Shaun of the Dead is listed (or ranked) 3 on the list If Bae Suggests Any Of These Horror Movies On Date Night, You Know They're The One
Photo: Shaun of the Dead/Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

Why This Movie Is Super Scary: In spite of the film's overt comedic aspects, there's a realism to the way in which everyone reacts to the overwhelming terror of a zombie-infested world. Once zombies start piling up, the characters are instantly at each others' throats - including best friends Shaun and Ed. The intensity of the zombie outbreak gets so dire even happy-go-lucky Shaun contemplates offing himself by the end of the movie.

What This Movie Says About Your Significant Other: Not only do they have a really good sense of humor, they also have a discerning taste when it comes to horror-comedy - a very tricky genre.

Actors: Martin Freeman, Simon Pegg, Bill Nighy, David Walliams, Dylan Moran, + more

Released: 2004

Directed by: Edgar Wright

Night of the Living Dead is listed (or ranked) 4 on the list If Bae Suggests Any Of These Horror Movies On Date Night, You Know They're The One

Why This Movie Is Super Scary: This movie set the template for every major zombie flick that followed. It's less about the terror of flesh-eating monsters and more about the horror of prejudice that grips people when the walls start closing in on us.

What This Movie Says About Your Significant Other: They're coming to kiss you, Barbara. Your date isn't just a fan of groundbreaking horror, they're also firmly against intolerance and modern side-arm-obsessed culture.
