A musical drama, Nashville premiered on ABC on October 10, 2012. The series' premise centered on the crossed paths of two country music stars: superstar Rayna James (Connie Britton), who was in the second half of her career, and Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere), a pop-country star on the rise. In addition to Britton and Panettiere, Clare Bowen, Eric Close, Charles Esten, and Jonathan Jackson were also part of the original Nashville cast. After four seasons on ABC, Nashville was officially canceled, only to be picked up for additional seasons by CMT. Britton left the show after season 5.
