The 1990s were a great time for standup comedy and many of the best 90s stand up comedians were women. Margaret Cho and Sarah Silverman, two of the best 90s comedians, were in their prime during this decade. Great 90s female comedians like Wanda Sykes and Kathy Griffin made a huge impact in the standup comedy world and it is no coincidence that both of them transitioned from the stand up stage to the TV screen. However, those two women (arguably two of the funniest 90s stand up comedians) never forgot their roots and still perform live standup comedy to this day. So, vote up which one of these comedians who you personally consider to be the greatest of the decade.
The funniest 90s comedians ranged from Jewish women (like Joy Behar and Susie Essman) to lesbian women (like Margaret Cho and Rosie O’Donnell) to just plain goofy women (like Rita Rudner and Caroline Rhea). The great 90s comedians captured the style of the time, just like Jeneane Garofalo did with her liberal-leaning commentary of the 1990s.
The comedy world in the 1990s was defined by these women. Though Behar went onto The View, she was still considered one of the best 90s female comedians, while Essman ended up on Curb Your Enthusiasm because of her reputation as one of the top 90s stand up comedians.
