Despite falling off at the end of Bowden's reign, this era produced some of the greatest players in Florida State history. The school became a de-factor feeding factory for the NFL, with a slew of first round draft picks and a number of other players who became fixtures in the pros.The Seminoles have won three national championships, seventeen conference titles, and five division titles. Warrick De'Mon Dunn (born January 5, 1975) is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for twelve seasons.  He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 12th overall in the 1997 NFL Draft, after playing college football at Florida State.  Dunn was named AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1997 and earned three Pro Bowl selections in his career.  After his playing career, Dunn took a minority stake in the Falcons' ownership group led by Arthur Blank.

Devonta Freeman

Devonta Freeman (born March 15, 1992) is an American football running back for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Falcons in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He attended and played college football for Florida State from 2011–2013. Freeman attended Miami Central High School in West Little River, Florida. He helped lead the Rockets football team to the 2010 Class 6A state championship and was named the MVP after gaining 308 yards on 36 carries, falling just 20 yards shy of a state championship game record. As a senior, he ran for a Miami-Dade County leading 2,208 yards and 26 touchdowns, and also recorded 663 rushing yards and six touchdowns in the final two games of the state playoffs. Considered a 4-star recruit by Rivals.com, he was rated the best running back in the nation.

Edgar Bennett III (born February 15, 1969) is an American football coach and former running back who is the wide receivers coach for the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). He previously was the offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. Bennett played college football at Florida State and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 4th round of the 1992 NFL Draft. He also played for the Chicago Bears.

Sammie Smith

Sammie Lee Smith (born May 16, 1967 in Orlando, Florida), is a former American football player who was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 1st round (9th overall) of the 1989 NFL Draft.  A 6'2", 226-lb. running back from Florida State University, Smith played in four NFL seasons from 1989 to 1992 for the Dolphins and Denver Broncos.Smith has had numerous legal problems since leaving professional football. In 1996, he was convicted of two counts of possession and distribution of cocaine, and spent seven years in prison as a result. He won restoration of his civil rights from the State of Florida in June 2010.

Larry Key (born July 12, 1956 in Inverness, Florida) was a Canadian Football League running back for the British Columbia Lions from 1978 through 1982. He was an All-Star in 1979 and 1981.
Key was the first Florida State Seminoles player to rush for 1,000 yards when he gained 1,117 in 1977. His 97-yard run in a 1976 game against VPI is the record for the longest run ever by a Seminole. Key also set four kick return records and was the national leader in all-purpose yardage in 1977. He was inducted into the FSU Football Hall of Fame in 1984.
