This is a Halloween episode, which sees Spongebob trying to prevent getting scared by convincing himself that scary equals funny. The Flying Dutchman, who loves Halloween, is irritated to hear Spongebob laughing when he should be screaming. He decides to take Spongebob's new theory as a challenge, and brings he and Patrick aboard his ship for the evening. Spongebob just keeps laughing, no matter how scary it gets, until The Flying Dutchman uses a ghostly mist to steal the souls of all of his friends - including Patrick. Spongebob valiantly tries to save his friends' souls, but inadvertently makes a fool of himself in the process. However, when The Flying Dutchman has a look inside Spongebob's brain, he is horrified to see a naked, baby version of the talkative sponge. The Flying Dutchman is so shaken by this, he sails away, releasing the souls of all of Spongebob's friends.

"The Legend of Boo-kini Bottom" is the first appearance of stop motion animation in the series since the second movie (2015), and it also happens to be the highest-viewed season 11 episode, with 2.21 million viewers.

This episode is all about learning how to tie your shoes, and the Flying Dutchman is actually nice to Spongebob for a change. He is summoned by Spongebob's anguished screams after the latter is late to work, and trips incessantly, since he cannot tie his shoes. It turns out, he's an expert knotter, having held the title of "Fancy Knotting Contest Champion" for 3,000 years. Problem is, The Flying Dutchman doesn't know of a knot for tying shoes, becuase he doesn't wear shoes. Devastated by defeat, Spongebob drags himself home, only to find that Gary wears shoes and even has a song he can listen to to re-learn how to tie his shoes.

Once again, The Flying Dutchman comes to teach Mr. Krabs a lesson about being too obsessed with money. In this episode, Mr. Krabs becomes enamored with the idea of money talking, after a customer offers $5 to kick some other patrons out of their table. When he's shouting at his money one night, desperate for it to respond to him, The Flying Dutchman overhears and offers to grant his wish, as long as Mr. Krabs gives up his soul. Mr. Krabs immediately agrees, but his money starts to drive him crazy, because he likes to hoard it, but it wants to be spent. He begs The Flying Dutchman to break the deal, but he refuses. Thankfully, Spongebob appears, dressed as a ghost, claiming that he had already been sold Mr. Krabs' soul, so The Flying Dutchman has to leave.

        Ghost Host / Chimps Ahoy!

        Video: YouTube

In this episode, The Flying Dutchman really leans on Spongebob after his ship gets damaged and he needs to crash with him as it gets repaired. However, he's not the greatest guest, as he scares Spongebob so regularly, that it eventually becomes old, and loses its effect. This worries The Flying Dutchman, as he fears that he's lost his touch. Eventually, when The Flying Dutchman wants to give up, Spongebob convinces him to try one more time, by scaring Squidward, who supposedly doesn't believe in ghosts. He is successful, terrifying Squidward and gaining his confidence back. The Flying Dutchman reveals at the end of the episode that his ship had been repaired for three months.
