List of the best foreign films of 2013, as ranked by film critics and foreign movie lovers. Often the movies that are given the most attention are made in the United States, shot by American directors, performed by American actors, and set in America. However, there’s a whole wide world of amazing movies to be discovered outside of the USA. Although foreign films don’t usually get the same amount of attention as ones with American backing. These films come from all over the world from Israel to Japan, each covering the same familiar genres we all know and love.

The beauty of foreign films is how diverse they are, especially since they aren’t always dependent on reaching the widest audience possible. An action film from Korea is going to be a completely different product than an American action film. Dramas from the Middle East are vastly different because the characters deal with varied problems. These films are great for a unique look into a different culture, as well as a new perspective on filmmaking.

What are the best foreign films of 2013? This list covers critically acclaimed movies from all over the world. Some you may see nominated come Oscar season, but many with continue to be unappreciated gems. To vote on more films, check out Ranker's list of the best movies of 2013.
