  • Far Cry 3

    Metacritic score: 88%

Often cited as the game that really helped elevate the series to new heights, Far Cry 3 introduced a bunch of new gameplay elements (namely crafting and skill points) but also expanded upon the original gameplay mechanics in all the right ways.

That said, one of the most noteworthy aspects of the game is its amazingly insane protagonist, Vaas, who's easily one of the most iconic and memorable video game villains of all time.

    Metacritic score: 81%

Set in rural Montana, Far Cry 5 centers on a nefarious cult, the Project at Eden's Gate, as players take on the role as a rookie deputy who's sent to arrest the cult's charismatically maniacal leader.

Like the previous installments, Far Cry 5 features a vast open world with plenty of adventures to undertake.

    Metacritic score: 80%

Set deep in the Himalayas, Far Cry 4 found players caught in a civil war of sorts that was purposely made to resemble the ongoing conflict between India and Nepal. The fourth installment sees the series hitting its stride in terms of style and mechanics, though many advocates claim this outing — above the others — features the most powerful story.

    Far Cry Primal

    Far Cry Primal

    Metacritic score: 76%

Instead of sticking to the tried-and-true modern FPS formula, Far Cry Primal decided to dial the years back a bit, taking place sometime during the stone age. Trading guns and rifles for clubs and bows, Primal removed the ability to purchase weapons; instead, players need to 'craft' their own weapons.

Primal also places an emphasis on game animals, letting players both capture big game and tame them.'
