Genesis are considered by many one of the best prog rock bands of all time. List of the best Genesis albums, including pictures of the album covers when available. This Genesis discography is ranked from best to worst, so the top Genesis albums can be found at the top of the list. To make it easy for you, we haven't included Genesis singles, EPs, or compilations, so everything you see here should only be studio albums. You could call Genesis the chameleons of the music industry. When they formed in 1967, the lineup consisted of Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, and Anthony Phillips. At the time, they were mostly a folk rock band, later evolving into arty prog-rock territory. By the time Phil Collins took over on lead vocals, Genesis gained commercial success with the glossier albums Duke (1980) and Abacab (1981).
