It's also during times like these that future hall-of-famers cement their legacies. Wayne Gretzky didn't become the great one without scoring his fair share of memorable goals - in fact his last goal ever as an Edmonton Oiler was a Stanley Cup winner. As the NHL&#39;s golden child and <a href="/list/fan-favorite-nhl-players/powerofthepuck" target="_blank">fan favorite NHL player</a>, Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins is seen by many as the best current NHL player. The young star quickly made his mark in the league by leading the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Championship in 2009 at the age of 21, the youngest captain to ever do so. He had a little help though with Evgeni Malkin, who also makes this list, serving as the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the MVP of the playoffs.

But there are many more great current NHL players in the league besides those playing in Pittsburgh. Steven Stamkos, Alexander Giroux, Alexander Ovechkin, Pavel Datsyuk, Zdeno Chara and Jonathan Toews are all among the elite forwards and defensemen in the NHL right now. In net, Henrik Lundqvist, Jonathan Quick and Jimmy Howard are seen as the top NHL goaltenders right now.

The worst NHL coaches of all time are really good at doing other hockey-related things, like playing the game or broadcasting, but when it came their turn to coach in the National Hockey League, they just plain sucked. These worst NHL coaches ever tallied some of the worst coaching records in professional hockey, disappointed fans and overall failed miserably at their job. Quite simply, it doesn't get much worse than this in terms of NHL coaches.For many of these bad NHL coaches, prior to taking over as a head coach of a professional hockey team, they saw a great deal of success as a player in the league. Wayne Gretzky is perhaps the best example of this when he went from being arguably one of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/great-nhl-hockey-players/uber" target="_blank">best hockey players in history</a> to a disappointing owner and coach of <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/the-best-arizona-coyotes-of-all-time/ranker-hockey?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">the Phoenix Coyotes</a>, leading them to a sub-par performance over his four years as head coach. Lou Agnotti, Paul Holmgren, Jim Anderson and Butch Goring also fall into this category having made that disastrous leap from being a star NHL player to a terrible NHL coach.Similarly, many who don't have what it takes to coach in the NHL have gone on to successful careers in other aspects of the game, such as broadcasting. Mike Milbury is a well-known face in the hockey broadcasting world but what you might not know is that he once coached in the league, and not so well. The same thing happened with Barry Melrose. He and his mullet can frequently be seen on ESPN and the NHL Network, a place he settled into in between being fired as head coach of the Los Angeles Kings in 1995 then again as head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008.So whether these bad NHL coaches failed to make the transition from player to coach, like Steve Ludzik, or simply have their name in the record books for the worst winning percentages ever, like when Dave Allison led the Ottawa Senators to a 2-22-1 record in the 1995-1996 season, each of these coaches tried their hand at coaching in the National Hockey League and simply couldn't cut it. Others will argue that the best NHL defenseman of all time is hands down Bobby Orr. The long-time member of the Boston Bruins won the Norris Trophy eight times plus won the league's MVP award, the Hart Trophy, three times during his 12 seasons in the NHL. The Hockey Hall of Fame member not only still holds several league records but also changed how the game was played with his innovative style. Lidstrom and Orr were one-of-a-kind players who will always be remembered as the top blue-liners to ever take the ice but they are far from the only highly talented defensemen in NHL history. The likes of Doug Harvey, Paul Coffee, Raymond Bourque, Eddie Shore and even Chris Chelios all had amazing careers as NHL defensemen and deserve lots of credit for that. People who should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame include some of the best players, coaches, builders and broadcasters who are all deserving of being enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada. For one reason or another, these talented men have been overlooked come induction time and as of the 2012 Hockey Hall of Fame class, have not gotten the call.For many of these retired hockey players, an induction into the Hockey Hall is fairly likely but simply has not happened yet. Each year, a maximum of four male and two female players plus a total of two builders and officials can be inducted into the hall. Due to these restrictions, many quality players are forced to wait several years while those with slightly higher legacies are chosen instead. The likes of Brendan Shannahan, Theo Fleury, Jeremy Roenick and Eric Lindros are all great examples of those who will likely get the call eventually.Then there's another breed of people who should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame who have simply been overlooked for one reason or another. Few can deny that Hockey Night in Canada broadcasters Don Cherry and Ron MacLean have made an impact on the game, yet they've so far not received induction into the builder category. Every hockey coach currently in the NHL begins the season with hopes of leading his team to the Stanley Cup. The most brutal hockey fight videos take us back to those bloody moments, the heated line brawls, and the cheap shots that involve our favorite hockey players and often our beloved entire favorite NHL teams. These videos are not for the faint of heart and not appropriate for all audiences, but they represent some of the most graphic and bloody hockey fights of all time.&nbsp;Hockey fights come in all shapes and sizes from the one-punch wonders that leave one of the two competitors out cold on the ice to the brawls that are built on long rivalries which build up to bench-clearing melees. On occasion, sometimes the fights have even extended beyond the ice into the stands as the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/most-outrageous-athlete-meltdowns-with-fans/sportsyeah" target="_blank">fans fight with players</a>, like the notorious incident in <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/23/sports/hockey/23brawl.html?mtrref=www.google.com&amp;gwh=14380E337C05A2B957C83D9262DDDBA5&amp;gwt=pay" target="_blank">1979 when members of the Boston Bruins tussled with New York Rangers fans at Madison Square Garden.</a>&nbsp;Which hockey fight is the best? That&#39;s a topic that will be argued upon by hockey fans around the globe for eternity. Some fans, when considering the biggest hockey fight, will point to the <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/1997/03/27/avalanche-red-wings-brawl-1997/" target="_blank">1997 &quot;Brawl in Hockeytown&quot;</a> when old scores were settled as the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche were involved in a game with no less than nine huge fights. Others will argue that it was the 2004 tilt between the <a href="https://sports.vice.com/en_ca/article/nzawv8/mayhem-in-philly-an-oral-history-of-the-epic-senators-flyers-brawl" target="_blank">Philadelphia Senators and Ottawa Senators</a> that takes the cake as five fights closed out the game and set an NHL record for the most ejections in a game (20) and the most penalty minutes in a game (419).

Like <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/best-hockey-coach-meltdowns/the-round-mound" target="_blank">hockey coach meltdowns</a>,&nbsp;fighting isn&#39;t just a thing for North America hockey. The actual world record for penalty minutes in a single game is owned by the <a href="https://en.khl.ru" target="_blank">Kontinental Hockey League</a> in Europe and Asia. On January 9, 2010, players from the <a href="https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2010/12/10/avangard-vs-vityaz-the-bloodiest-rivalry-in-hockey-escalates/" target="_blank">Vityaz Chekhov and Avangard Omsk</a> cleared the benches for a massive brawl. Both coaches and 35 players were ejected while 707 penalty minutes and nearly $200K in fines followed.

Whichever fight you like best, it&#39;s hard to argue that these clips are not some of the wildest of all time.

The <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-hockey-coaches-of-all-time/ranker-hockey?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">best hockey coach</a> meltdowns come when the head coaches, assistant coaches or general managers of teams in the NHL, AHL, ECHL and other top hockey leagues lose their temper (and sometimes their clothes). Once they snap all hell breaks loose and everything from sticks to benches rain down on the ice. Usually when hockey coaches flip out it's because they disagree with the referee for one reason or another. Most times, coaches will just blow it off but every so often a call gets under their skin and they lose it. The tantrum usually starts with cursing then can escalate to the coach throwing objects on the ice. Whatever is within arm's reach is fair game like hockey sticks, water bottles, clipboards and in the case of former New Jersey Devils coach Robbie Ftorek, an entire wooden bench often ends up on the playing surface.Some coaches however take flipping out to another level completely. Former <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-los-angeles-kings-coaches/ranker-hockey?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">Los Angeles Kings coach</a> Tom Webster did just that when he hurled a hockey stick at former NHL referee Kerry Fraser in a fit of rage. Webster later earned a 12-game suspension. Russian hockey coach Andrey Nazarov earned an indefinite ban after getting into a physical altercation with fans behind the bench. Greg Pankewicz however takes the cake for originality of a hockey coach meltdown. As the assistant coach of the Colorado Eagles, then a member of the Central Hockey League, Pankewicz went bananas behind the bench during a February 2011 game. In addition to cursing at the officials and tossing various objects onto the ice, Pankewicz went as far as to stand up on the bench and begin stripping. As he stood on the bench topless with everything from his tie to his shoes on the ice, Pankewicz was finally ejected.For as long as there is hockey coaches and hockey referees, there will certainly always be hockey meltdowns just like these ones. There are a lot of athletes with bad hair, and the world of hockey is no exception. Ice hockey is an incredibly tough game and needs players who are just crazy enough, especially at the highest level, that they come with some of the most unique personalities in sports. This individual style unfortunately extends to what they've got going on under the helmet - and from mullets, to crazy curls, and long, luscious locks, the hockey players here have the absolute worst hair in NHL hockey.Hockey players are courageous, reckless, wild and not afraid to show any of these characteristics. While many aspire to be a great professional hockey coach, only a select few will be remembered for being the elite. With the most games coached, most games won, most Stanley Cup Playoff victories and the most Stanley Cup Championships during his 30 years coaching in the NHL, Scotty Bowman's numbers are simply leaps and bounds above any other competitor.That's not to say that there are not dozens of other great hockey coaches. Scotty Bowman

William Scott Bowman, OC (born September 18, 1933) is a Canadian retired National Hockey League (NHL) head coach. He holds the record for most wins in league history, with 1,248 wins in the regular season and 223 in the Stanley Cup playoffs and ranks 2nd all time (behind Jean Béliveau's seventeen) for most Stanley Cup victories by a player, coach or executive with fourteen. He coached the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Detroit Red Wings. He is currently the Senior Advisor of Hockey Operations for the Chicago Blackhawks (his son, Stan, is the team's general manager). Bowman is regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NHL history.As head coach, Bowman has won a record nine Stanley Cup championships; five with the Canadiens (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979), one with the Penguins (1992) and three with the Red Wings (1997, 1998, and 2002). He has also won five Stanley Cups as a member of an organization's front office. He was director of player development for the 1991 Penguins, Consultant with the 2008 Detroit Red Wings, and Senior Advisor of Hockey Operations for the 2010, 2013, and 2015 Chicago Blackhawks. Bowman is the only NHL coach to lead three teams to Stanley Cup victories. Bowman won the Jack Adams Award in 1977 and 1996. In the 1976–77 season he won a record 60 games, breaking his own record of 58 wins the year before. He broke his own record again in the 1995–1996 season, with 62 wins. His 8 losses in 1976–77 are a modern record. His teams also made it to the Stanley Cup Finals a record 13 times and the semi-finals a record 16 times.

Herb Brooks

Herbert Paul Brooks Jr. (August 5, 1937 – August 11, 2003) was an American ice hockey player and coach.  His most notable achievement came in 1980 as head coach of the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic hockey team at Lake Placid. At the Games, Brooks' American team upset the heavily-favored Soviet team in a match that came to be known as the "Miracle on Ice."
Brooks would go on to coach multiple National Hockey League (NHL) teams, as well as the French team at the 1998 Winter Olympics. He ultimately returned to coach the U.S. men's team to a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Brooks was killed in a 2003 car accident. At the time of his death, he was the director of player personnel for the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins.

Al Arbour

Alger Joseph Arbour (November 1, 1932 – August 28, 2015) was a Canadian ice hockey player, coach, and executive. He is third to Joel Quenneville for games coached in National Hockey League history and fourth all-time in wins, behind Scotty Bowman, Joel Quenneville and Ken Hitchcock. Under Arbour, the New York Islanders won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Arbour played amateur hockey as a defenceman with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. He played his first professional games with the Detroit Red Wings in 1953. Claimed by the Chicago Black Hawks in 1958, Arbour would help the team win a championship in 1961. Arbour played with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the next five years, winning another Cup in 1962. He was selected by the St. Louis Blues in their 1967 expansion draft and played his final four seasons with the team.
During his last year with the Blues, Arbour was hired mid-season to coach the team. In 107 games, he led them to a 42–40–25 record, but only one playoff series win. After a woeful expansion year, the New York Islanders hired Arbour as coach in 1973. Arbour led the team to a winning record every season from 1974–75 until he stepped down in 1985–86. Arbour won nineteen consecutive playoff series, which remains an NHL and North American sports record. He was awarded the Jack Adams Award as the league's top coach in 1979. Upon retiring from the bench, Arbour was named vice-president of player development for the Islanders. He returned to coach the Islanders in the 1988–89 season and remained there through 1993-94, notably upsetting the two-time defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1993 playoffs. He was awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy for his contributions to the sport and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996.

Barry Trotz

Barry Trotz (born July 15, 1962) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). He is also the former head coach of the NHL's Nashville Predators and the Washington Capitals. He was previously the coach of the American Hockey League (AHL)'s Baltimore Skipjacks and Portland Pirates, with whom he won an AHL championship in 1994. That same year, he won the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award, which is awarded to the outstanding coach in the AHL as voted upon by the AHL Broadcasters and Writers. On February 20, 2013, Lindy Ruff was fired by the Buffalo Sabres, making Trotz the longest-tenured head coach in the NHL. He was also the second-longest tenured coach in the four major North American professional leagues, behind only Gregg Popovich of the National Basketball Association's San Antonio Spurs. On April 14, 2014, the Predators announced Trotz would not return for his 16th season as head coach. On May 26, 2014, Trotz was announced as the new head coach of the Capitals. On June 7, 2018, Trotz won his first Stanley Cup as the head coach, with the Capitals defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in five games, in the franchise's first Stanley Cup championship. On June 21, 2018, Trotz was announced as the new head coach of the Islanders.

Joseph Hector "Toe" Blake,  (August 21, 1912 – May 17, 1995) was a Canadian ice hockey player and coach in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is best known for his three-decade association with the Montreal Canadiens, with whom he won the Stanley Cup ten times as a player or coach. In 2017 Blake was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history.

Jack Adams

John James "Jack" Adams (June 14, 1894 – May 1, 1968) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player, coach and general manager in the National Hockey League and Pacific Coast Hockey Association. He was a Hall of Fame player during a 10-year professional career with Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa.
He is best known for his 36-year association with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League as head coach and as a general manager. He held the record of winningest coach in Red Wings history before being surpassed by Mike Babcock in 2014. He later became the first president of the Central Professional Hockey League. Adams is a nine-time Stanley Cup champion, and the only person to have won the Stanley Cup as a player, coach, and general manager.

Joel Quenneville

Joel Norman Quenneville (born September 15, 1958) is a Canadian–American professional ice hockey coach. He is the current head coach of the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also coached the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, and Chicago Blackhawks with whom he won three Stanley Cup titles. On January 14, 2016, he surpassed Al Arbour with his 783rd win as an NHL coach, making Quenneville second only to Scotty Bowman in total wins. He is often referred to by fans and players as "Coach Q" or simply as "Q".

Pat Burns

Patrick John Joseph Burns (April 4, 1952 – November 19, 2010) was a National Hockey League head coach. Over 14 seasons between 1988 and 2004, he coached in 1,019 games with the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, and New Jersey Devils. Burns retired in 2005 after being diagnosed with recurring cancer, which eventually claimed his life five years later.
In 2014, he was posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Pat Quinn

John Brian Patrick "Pat" Quinn,  (January 29, 1943 – November 23, 2014) was a Canadian ice hockey player, head coach, and executive.  Known by the nickname "The Big Irishman", he coached for the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Edmonton Oilers, reaching the Stanley Cup Finals twice, with the Flyers in 1980 and the Canucks in 1994.  Internationally, Quinn coached Team Canada to gold medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics, 2008 IIHF World U18 Championships and 2009 World Junior Championship, as well as World Cup championship in 2004.
Prior to coaching, Quinn was an NHL defenceman, having played nine seasons in the league with the Maple Leafs, Canucks and Atlanta Flames.  Coming out of the junior ranks with the Edmonton Oil Kings, he won a Memorial Cup with the club in 1963.  He later won another Memorial Cup as part-owner of the Vancouver Giants in 2007.

Art Ross

Arthur Howey "Art" Ross (January 13, 1885 – August 5, 1964) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and executive from 1905 until 1954. Regarded as one of the best defenders of his era by his peers, he was one of the first to skate with the puck up the ice rather than pass it to a forward. He was on Stanley Cup championship teams twice in a playing career that lasted thirteen seasons; in January 1907 with the Kenora Thistles and 1908 with the Montreal Wanderers. Like other players of the time, Ross played for several different teams and leagues, and is most notable for his time with the Wanderers while they were members of the National Hockey Association (NHA) and its successor, the National Hockey League (NHL). In 1911 he led one of the first organized player strikes over increased pay. When the Wanderers' home arena burned down in January 1918, the team ceased operations and Ross retired as a player.
After several years as an on-ice official, he was named head coach of the Hamilton Tigers for one season. When the Boston Bruins were formed in 1924, Ross was hired as the first coach and general manager of the team. He would go on to coach the team on three separate occasions until 1945 and stayed as general manager until his retirement in 1954. Ross helped the Bruins finish first place in the league ten times and to win the Stanley Cup three times; Ross personally coached the team to two of those victories. After being hired by the Bruins, Ross, along with his wife and two sons, moved to a suburb of Boston, and became an American citizen in 1938. He died near Boston in 1964.
Outside of his association with the Bruins, Ross also helped to improve the game. He created a style of hockey puck still used today, and advocated an improved style of goal nets, a change that lasted forty years. In 1947 Ross donated the Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the leading scorer of the NHL regular season. Ross was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1949.

Lester Patrick

Curtis Lester "Les, The Silver Fox" Patrick (December 31, 1883 – June 1, 1960) was a professional ice hockey player and coach associated with the Victoria Aristocrats/Cougars of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (Western Hockey League after 1924), and the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Along with his brother Frank Patrick and father Joseph Patrick, he founded the Pacific Coast Hockey Association and helped develop several rules for the game of hockey.  Patrick won six Stanley Cups as a player, coach and manager.

Jacques Lemaire

Jacques Gerard Lemaire (born September 7, 1945) is a retired French Canadian ice hockey forward and head coach who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984. He spent his entire twelve-year National Hockey League (NHL) playing career with the Montreal Canadiens (1967–1979) and was a part of eight Stanley Cup Championship teams in 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979. In 2017 Lemaire was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history.Lemaire was a NHL head coach for seventeen seasons with the Canadiens (1983–1985), New Jersey Devils (1993–1998, 2009–2011) and Minnesota Wild (2000–2009). The pinnacle of his career behind the bench was a Stanley Cup Championship with the Devils in 1994–95.
After retiring at the end of the 2010–11 NHL season, Lemaire accepted a position as special assignment coach for the Devils. He currently works as a special assignment coach for the New York Islanders, a position he previously held with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Mike Babcock

Michael Babcock Jr. (born April 29, 1963) is a Canadian professional ice hockey head coach, currently serving as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously spent 10 seasons as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings, winning the Stanley Cup with them in 2008 and helping them to the Stanley Cup Playoffs every year during his tenure. He holds the record as the coach with the most wins in Red Wings history, surpassing that of Jack Adams. He has also served as head coach of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, whom he helped to the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals.
Babcock was born in Manitouwadge, Ontario and grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. As of August 2019, he is the only coach to gain entry to the Triple Gold Club, having guided the Red Wings to the Stanley Cup in 2008, as well as leading Team Canada to gold at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in 2004, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Babcock is the only coach to win six distinct national or international titles, guiding Canada to gold at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and the IIHF World Junior Championships in 1997 and the University of Lethbridge to the CIS University Cup in 1994.

Clarence Henry "Happy" Day (June 14, 1901 – February 17, 1990), later known as Hap Day, was a Canadian professional hockey player who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Americans. Day enjoyed a 33-year career as a player, referee, coach and assistant general manager, 28 of which were spent in various capacities with the Maple Leafs.  He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961.
His name appears on the Stanley Cup 7 times—1932 (as Captain), 1942, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949 (as coach) and 1951 (as assistant manager); all with the Maple Leafs.

Darryl Sutter

Darryl John Sutter (born August 19, 1958) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey coach and player. He was most recently head coach of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), with whom he won two Stanley Cup titles. He is one of seven Sutter brothers, six of whom made the NHL (Brent, Brian, Darryl, Duane, Rich and Ron); all but Rich and Gary (the seventh Sutter brother) worked alongside Darryl in some capacity during Darryl Sutter's tenure with the Calgary Flames. Sutter has also coached for the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks, the latter of which he spent his entire NHL playing career with, from 1979 to 1987.

Brian Louis Allen Sutter (born October 7, 1956) is a Canadian former ice hockey forward and former head coach in the National Hockey League (NHL). Brian is the second oldest of the famous Sutter brothers and the oldest of the six that played in the NHL. He is also the only one to have his number retired by an NHL team.



Jacques Martin

Jacques Martin (born October 1, 1952) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and executive, currently serving as an assistant coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the National Hockey League (NHL), he has been the head coach of the St. Louis Blues,  Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens and the Florida Panthers. Martin was also the general manager with the Panthers, and has served as an assistant coach with the Canadian men's national ice hockey team. Martin is a Franco-Ontarian, and a two-time Stanley Cup champion.

Ken Hitchcock

Kenneth S. Hitchcock (born December 17, 1951) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach. Hitchcock coached the Dallas Stars (1996–2002, 2017–2018), Philadelphia Flyers (2002–2006), Columbus Blue Jackets (2006–2010), St. Louis Blues (2011–2017), and Edmonton Oilers (2018–2019) of the National Hockey League (NHL). He also served as an assistant coach for the 2014 Canadian Olympic national team. Hitchcock won a Stanley Cup with the Stars in 1999. He is the third winningest coach in NHL history with a total of 823 victories. He was named a 2019 Order of Hockey in Canada recipient.

Fred Shero

Frederick Alexander "The Fog" Shero (October 23, 1925 – November 24, 1990) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player, coach, and general manager. He played for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). However, he spent most of his playing career in the minor leagues. Following his playing career, Shero went into coaching. He spent 13 years coaching in the minor leagues before making it to the NHL. As the head coach of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, Shero won the Stanley Cup in 1974 and 1975 and reached the Stanley Cup Finals a third time, in 1976. He also had four consecutive seasons of having a 0.700 or better winning percentage and remains the Flyers all-time leader in coaching victories. Shero controversially left the Flyers following the 1977–78 season to become the head coach of the New York Rangers, whom he led to the Stanley Cup Finals in his first season. He resigned from the Rangers after coaching for less than three seasons. Shero had a unique style of coaching that led to several innovations that are still used today. He was the first coach to hire a full-time assistant coach, employ systems, have his players use in season strength training, study film, and he was one of the first coaches to utilize a morning skate. In 2013 Shero was recognized for his contributions when he was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder.
He was known for his enigmatic and introverted personality often appearing or disappearing from a room unnoticed, or being completely lost in thought. He often left philosophical sayings on a chalkboard as a way of provoking thought or as a motivational tool. Prior to game six of the 1974 Stanley Cup Finals, Shero wrote his now famous quote "Win together today and we walk together forever" – a statement that continues to be quoted to this day. His son, Ray Shero, also pursued a career in hockey and was the general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2006 to 2014 and is the current general manager of the New Jersey Devils.

Bob Johnson

Robert Norman "Badger Bob" Johnson (March 4, 1931 – November 26, 1991) was an American college, international, and professional ice hockey coach. He coached the Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey team from 1966 to 1982, where he led the Badgers to seven appearances at the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championships, including three titles. During his time as the head coach at Wisconsin, Johnson also coached the United States men's national ice hockey team at the 1976 Winter Olympics and seven other major championships, including the Canada Cup and IIHF World Championships. He then coached the Calgary Flames for five seasons that included a Stanley Cup Finals loss in 1986. Johnson achieved the peak of his professional coaching career in his only season as coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1990–91, when the Penguins won the 1991 Stanley Cup Finals, becoming the second American-born coach to win it and the first in 53 years. In August 1991, following hospitalization due to a brain aneurysm, Johnson was diagnosed with brain cancer. He died on November 26 of the same year. 
Johnson was well known amongst players and fans for his enthusiasm and unflappable optimism, immortalized through his famous catchphrase "It's a great day for hockey!" .

Glen Sather

Glen Cameron "Slats" Sather (born September 2, 1943) is a Canadian ice hockey player, coach and executive. He is the current senior advisor and alternate governor of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was the Rangers' general manager until stepping down on July 1, 2015, and then served as their president until April 4, 2019. He is known for coaching the Edmonton Oilers to four Stanley Cup victories during the 1980s. He played a key role in attracting the talented players, including Wayne Gretzky, who helped make the Oilers a hockey dynasty at that time. Gretzky, who became "the most dominant player in the history of the game," credits Sather, along with Walter Gretzky, his father, as his most important mentors. Outside the NHL, Sather was instrumental in building Canadian national teams for the 1984 Canada Cup (tournament champions), the 1994 Ice Hockey World Championship (Gold Medal winners) and 1996 World Cup of Hockey (Finalists). Prior to coaching, Sather was a professional ice hockey left winger in the WHA and NHL, playing for several teams over a 10-year period. Sather was born in High River, Alberta but grew up in Wainwright, Alberta. Sather resides in Rye, New York during the season and Palm Springs, California in the off-season, but also has a home in Banff, Alberta. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.

Bryan Murray

Bryan Clarence Murray (December 5, 1942 – August 12, 2017) was a Canadian professional ice hockey executive and coach.  He served as general manager of the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 2007 to 2016.  He had previously been general manager of the NHL's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Florida Panthers, and Detroit Red Wings.  He was also the head coach for the Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and Ottawa Senators, for a total of 17 full or partial seasons.
He compiled over 600 NHL victories in regular season games.  In his 13 full NHL seasons as head coach, he took his teams to the playoffs 12 times.  In other leagues, he was head coach of the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears and the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats.

John Tortorella

John Robert Tortorella (born June 24, 1958) is an American professional ice hockey coach and former player. He is the head coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). Tortorella was previously the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning (2001–2008), the New York Rangers (2009–2013) and the Vancouver Canucks (2013–2014). He led Tampa Bay to the 2004 Stanley Cup championship.
