A list of the best Indiana Pacers of all time. As one of the charter franchises of the ABA, the Pacers were founded in 1967.The most successful team in the fledgling league&#39;s history, the Pacers won three ABA championships in four years and made the finals five times in nine years. Those early Pacers teams had some of the best players in franchise history including superstars like Mel Daniels, George McGinnis and Roger Brown, who was the first Pacers player to be inducted into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame.

After a decade spent near the bottom of the league, things started to turn around for the Pacers in 1987 when they drafted a lanky kid from UCLA, who some thought wasn&#39;t going to make it in the NBA. Reggie Miller proved them wrong and even to this day one of the greatest Pacers ever. The sharpshooting Miller is one of the <a href="http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/the-top-nba-players-of-all-time">greatest players in basketball history</a> and led many of the most successful teams in Pacers history during the 1990s and early 2000s. Former stars Dale Davis, Rik Smits, Antonio Davis and Jermaine O&#39;Neal were other outstanding players who played on that roster with Miller.&nbsp;

After a bit of a rebuilding period, the Pacers roared back in the early 2010s. The team has three famous superstars in Paul George, Roy Hibbert and Danny Granger. It&#39;s rare for a NBA team to have one superstar, nevertheless the talent that Indiana has been able to accumulate. Though the franchise only has a few Hall of Famers, basketball history in Indiana is rich, which can be attributed to it&#39;s number of great players.

The Pacers of the 1990s were defined by&nbsp;Reggie Miller, a Hall of Famer who belongs on the list of <a href="https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/the-top-nba-players-of-all-time" target="_blank">best NBA players of all time</a>. Jermaine O'Neal

Jermaine Gregory O'Neal (born October 13, 1978) is an American retired professional basketball player. The 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m), 255 lb (115 kg) forward–center had a successful high school career and declared his eligibility for the 1996 NBA draft straight out of high school. O'Neal was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 17th overall pick, but was unable to break into the first team in Portland and was traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2000. In his eight seasons with the club, he was voted an NBA All-Star six times, made the All-NBA teams three times, and was voted the NBA Most Improved Player in the 2001–02 season. O'Neal also helped Indiana reach the NBA Playoffs six times, including the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2003–04 season.
O'Neal was traded to the Toronto Raptors before the 2008–09 season began, and later played for the Miami Heat, the Boston Celtics, and the Phoenix Suns. O'Neal's final NBA season was the 2013–14 season, which he spent with the Golden State Warriors.

Rik Smits

Rik Smits (born August 23, 1966), nicknamed "the Dunking Dutchman", is a Dutch retired professional basketball player who spent his entire career with the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA)  The 7-foot-4-inch (2.24 m) center was drafted by the Pacers out of Marist College with the second overall pick in the 1988 NBA draft. An NBA All-Star in 1998, Smits reached the NBA Finals in 2000.

Roy Hibbert

Roy Denzil Hibbert (born December 11, 1986) is a Jamaican-American retired professional basketball player. He is a two-time NBA All-Star, and earned NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors in 2014.
Hibbert played college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas and was named a consensus second-team All-American as a senior in 2008. He was drafted 17th overall in the 2008 NBA draft by the Toronto Raptors and was subsequently traded to the Indiana Pacers on draft night. He has represented the Jamaican national team in international competition being eligible because of his dual U.S. and Jamaican citizenship.

Myles Turner

Myles Christian Turner (born March 24, 1996) is an American professional basketball player for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played one season for the Texas Longhorns before declaring for the 2015 NBA draft and being selected by the Pacers with the 11th overall pick. Prior to the start of the 2017–18 season, Turner was elected team captain. On October 15, 2018, Turner signed a four-year, $72 million contract extension with the Pacers.

Mel Daniels

Melvin Joe Daniels (July 20, 1944 – October 30, 2015) was an American professional basketball player. He played in the American Basketball Association (ABA) for the Minnesota Muskies, Indiana Pacers, and Memphis Sounds, and in the National Basketball Association for the New York Nets. Daniels was a two-time ABA Most Valuable Player, three-time ABA Champion and a seven-time ABA All-Star. Daniels was the All-time ABA rebounding leader. Daniels was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.

Herb Williams

Herbert L. Williams (born February 16, 1958) is a retired American basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for eighteen seasons from 1981 to 1999. Williams served as the interim head coach and the assistant coach of the NBA's New York Knicks. He is currently an assistant coach for the New York Liberty of the WNBA.

Dale Davis

Elliott Lydell "Dale" Davis (born March 25, 1969) is an American former professional basketball player who played center and power forward. During his playing days, he was listed at 6'11" and 252 pounds.
Davis was drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the 13th pick of the 1991 NBA Draft, and spent the first nine years of his career with them. He quickly established himself as the team's starting power forward, and was the workhorse of the Pacers' outstanding teams in the mid-1990s. He routinely averaged double-digits in points and near double-digits in rebounds throughout his Pacers career, and left the franchise as the team's all-time rebounds leader in their NBA era. (The Pacers were an original member of the American Basketball Association for several years before joining the NBA.)
Following the 1999-2000 season, in which Davis was named to the All-Star team and the Pacers made it to the NBA Finals, the organization decided it was time to rebuild with a younger group of players. They traded Davis to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Jermaine O'Neal and Joe Kleine, and O'Neal soon went on to become the Pacers' franchise player.
Davis spent four years with the Blazers, putting up much the same numbers as he did with the Pacers—roughly 8 points and 8 rebounds per game. He played 313 games for the Blazers, starting 235 times.
On July 20, 2004, the Blazers traded Davis and Dan Dickau to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Nick Van Exel.
On February 24, 2005, Davis was traded again, along with guard Speedy Claxton, to the New Orleans Hornets for guard Baron Davis. Davis was released soon afterward, and signed with his first team, the Pacers, on March 4, 2005. He immediately started in place of the injured Jermaine O'Neal, earning one point, seven rebounds and two blocked shots in a Pacers' road victory against the Blazers.
In all, Davis started all 25 games he played for the Pacers in the 2004-05 regular season, contributing 6.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.32 blocks per game.
In June 2006, he became a co-owner in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series when he bought interest in R&J Racing.On August 26, 2005, Davis signed as a free agent with the Detroit Pistons. He played with the Pistons for 2 years, retiring from basketball after the 2006-2007 NBA season.
In August 2006, Davis was shocked with a stun gun as Miami Beach police arrested him for assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. In December 2006, Davis was acquitted of all charges.

Antonio Davis

Antonio Lee Davis (born October 31, 1968) is an American retired National Basketball Association (NBA) player. Davis is also the former president of the NBA Players Association (NBPA). On October 31, 2012, ESPN announced the hiring of Davis as a studio analyst for NBA broadcasts.  He is also currently a co-host/analyst on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

Steve Stipanovich

Stephen Samuel Stipanovich (born November 17, 1960) is an American retired professional basketball player. A 6-ft 11-inch (211 cm) center from the University of Missouri, Stipanovich was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the second pick of the 1983 NBA draft. Knee problems limited his career to five seasons, and he retired in 1988 with career totals of 5,323 points and 3,131 rebounds. At Missouri, (1979- 1983), he and Jon Sundvold helped Coach Norm Stewart to four consecutive Big 8 Conference Championships and NCAA tournament appearances.

Bob Netolicky

Robert "Bob" Netolicky (born August 2, 1942) is a retired American basketball player. A 6'9" power forward/center, he played professionally in the now-defunct American Basketball Association (ABA) from 1967 to 1976.
Netolicky was an All-American selection at Drake University in the 1960s before being drafted by the National Basketball Association's (NBA) San Diego Rockets in 1967. However, he never played for the Rockets, joining the ABA's Indiana Pacers instead. A four-time ABA All-Star and two-time ABA Champion, Netolicky was a well-rounded player who could rebound, defend, and shoot the ball equally well.  Jim O'Brien of The Sporting News once claimed that Netolicky was the "smoothest shooting big man in the ABA."  Besides the Pacers, Netolicky briefly played for the Dallas Chaparrals and San Antonio Spurs, and he ended his ABA career with 9,876 career points and 5,518 career rebounds.
He was also a fan favorite, well known for his advocacy of mod lifestyle and his exotic pets (including a lion and an ocelot). One sportswriter called him the "Broadway Joe Namath of the ABA", since he had become a veritable sex symbol to many of Indiana's female fans.Netolicky is one of the few professional basketball players to play for both teams in the same game. On November 14, 1973, Netolicky was playing for the San Antonio Spurs when they lost at home to the Indiana Pacers on a last-second shot. The Spurs protested the loss, and the ABA Commissioner ruled for San Antonio. The Pacers' last-second basket was disallowed, and the remaining 30 seconds of the game (which was the portion that San Antonio had protested) was ordered replayed immediately before the next Pacers-at-Spurs game, on December 2, 1973. By that time, however, Netolicky had been traded to Indiana. He played the final 30 seconds of regulation for the Pacers, plus the subsequent overtime.

Darnell Hillman

Darnell "Dr. Dunk" Hillman (born August 29, 1949) is a former professional basketball player.
Hillman graduated from Hiram W. Johnson High School.
The 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) forward played college basketball at San Jose State University. Hillman was selected in the first round of the 1971 NBA draft (the 8th pick overall) by the Golden State Warriors, but opted instead to play for the Indiana Pacers of the American Basketball Association.Hillman played six seasons for the Pacers, who joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the ABA–NBA merger in June 1976. Hillman earned a reputation for his stylish slam dunks and oversized afro hairstyle. He would even be named the winner of the NBA's Slam Dunk Contest in the 1976–77 season, which was a precursor to the event that's known today, although he wouldn't be give an official trophy for it until March 8, 2017 In the final of that contest, which took place at halftime of Game 5 of the 1977 NBA Finals Hillman defeated Larry McNeill of the Golden State Warriors.  At the time of the final, Hillman's rights had been traded to the New York Nets, but he had not yet signed a contract. Since he was not officially a member of any NBA team, instead of wearing a jersey, he competed in a plain white tank top. Then for the post-competition interview, Hillman donned a shirt with the words "Bottle Shoppe" – the name of an Indianapolis liquor store, which is still in existence, and was the sponsor of a city parks softball league team for which Hillman played left field (and the only team he was a member of at the time).Hillman later played with the New Jersey Nets, Denver Nuggets, Kansas City Kings, and Golden State Warriors in the NBA, and he ended his career in 1980 with combined NBA/ABA totals of 6,666 points and 5,187 rebounds during the regular season, and 7,339 points and 5,809 rebounds including the post-season.
Hillman also played for the United States men's national basketball team at the 1970 FIBA World Championship.Hillman was once asked by a reporter if it was true he could jump high enough to grab a quarter off the top of the backboard. Hillman responded, "Put a $100 bill up there and see." The reporter, who had heard the stories of Hillman picking quarters off the top of backboards, turned down the offer.
At the 1997 ABA reunion, Hillman won the "Biggest ABA Afro" Award.Currently, Hillman serves as Associate Director of Camps, Clinics & Alumni Relations for the Indiana Pacers.
On February 4, 2012, Hillman's #45 was retired by San Jose State University. Hillman joins Ricky Berry (#34) and Olivier Saint-Jean (#3) as the only Spartans to have their jerseys retired.

Bradley Alan Miller (born April 12, 1976) is an American former professional basketball player. The two-time NBA All-Star played for six National Basketball Association (NBA) teams.

Lavoy Allen

Lavoy Allen (born February 4, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League. He was selected in the second round, 50th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. Allen is the son of a truck driver, and did not play much basketball until eighth grade. He attended Pennsbury High School, where he was coached by Frank Sciolla. Rivals.com ranked him the 14th best center in his class, and Scout.com named him the 110th overall prospect. Allen committed to Temple University and coach Fran Dunphy.
Temple reached the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons that Allen played there. He was a three-time All-Atlantic 10 Defensive Team honoree and a two-time All-Atlantic 10 First Team recipient. In his junior year, he became the first Temple player to average a double-double since Ollie Johnson accomplished the feat in 1970-71. Allen declared for early entry in the 2010 NBA draft, but withdrew prior to the May 8 deadline. As a senior, Allen surpassed Johnny Baum as the all-time leading rebounder in Temple history. He was the recipient of the Robert V. Geasey Trophy honoring the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Year. Dunphy has said that Allen "might be the smartest player I've ever coached."

Reggie Harding

Reginald Harding (May 4, 1942 – September 2, 1972) was an American professional basketball player. Drafted in 1962 by the Detroit Pistons, Harding is noted as the first player drafted into the NBA without having played in college. Harding spent five years in the NBA, playing for the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls and later the Indiana Pacers. Harding also played for the Trenton Colonials, which were a part of the Continental Basketball Association.

Stuart Gray

Stuart Allan Gray (born May 27, 1963) is an American/Panamanian former professional basketball player. At 7 ft 0 in (2.13 m) tall, he played at the center position.
Gray attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for three seasons (from 1981 to 1984), and was afterwards selected with the 29th overall (5th in 2nd round) pick in the 1984 NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers. He played with them for five seasons (1984–85 – 1988–89) before moving on to the Charlotte Hornets (1989–90) and in mid-season to the New York Knicks, where he also played in the 1990–91 season. He holds NBA career averages of 2.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks per game.
Prior to going to UCLA, Gray attended John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, California and graduated in 1981.Gray played internationally for the Panama national basketball team.

Al Ricardo Jefferson (born January 4, 1985) is an American former professional basketball player. He played high school basketball for Prentiss High School in Mississippi before skipping college to enter the 2004 NBA draft, where he was drafted 15th overall by the Boston Celtics. He has previously played for the Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Charlotte Hornets and Indiana Pacers.

Al Harrington

Albert Harrington (born February 17, 1980) is an American former professional basketball player. Selected with the 25th overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft, Harrington played 16 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards. He also spent a short stint with the Fujian Sturgeons of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
Since retiring from the NBA, Harrington has become an entrepreneur in the cannabis industry.  Harrington is a cousin of NBA player Dahntay Jones.

Scot Pollard

Scot L. Pollard (born February 12, 1975) is an American retired professional basketball player. In an eleven-year NBA career, he played for five teams, spending the bulk of his career with the Sacramento Kings and the Indiana Pacers.Pollard was born in Murray, Utah, and grew up in San Diego and Kennewick, Washington. He attended the University of Kansas and was the 19th pick of the 1997 NBA Draft, selected by the Detroit Pistons. For every season, except his first, Pollard appeared in the NBA Playoffs including in the 2007 NBA Finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He won a championship in his final season (2007–08) with the Boston Celtics.
In 2016, Pollard appeared as a contestant in Survivor: Kaôh Rōng, the 32nd season of the American CBS competitive reality television series Survivor. The competition was filmed in Koh Rong, Cambodia during the spring of 2015 and premiered on February 17, 2016. He placed 8th, being the 9th person voted off of Survivor: Kaôh Rōng.

LaSalle Thompson

LaSalle Thompson III (born June 23, 1961) is an American former professional basketball player, who spent most of his 15-year career with the Kansas City/Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers.  The 6'10", 245-pound Thompson spent time at both the center and power forward positions during his playing career. He later served as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats, during head coach Larry Brown's tenure and for the New York Knicks during head coach Mike Woodson's tenure.

James Franklin Edwards (born November 22, 1955) is an American retired professional basketball player. Nicknamed "Buddha" for his appearance (he often sported a Fu Manchu mustache) and stoic demeanor, the 7'1" Edwards, though he never appeared in an All-Star Game, was a reliable low-post scorer, averaging 12.7 points per game over his career.
He retired with 14,862 career points and 6,004 career rebounds.

Ian Mahinmi

Ian Mahinmi (born November 5, 1986) is a French professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA). At 6'11" and 250 lb, he plays the center position. He was selected with the 28th overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs.

Tom Owens

Thomas William Owens (born June 28, 1949) is a retired American professional basketball player.
A 6'10" center born in the Bronx, New York played for LaSalle Academy in 1967 when they won the NYC CHSAA championship  and from the University of South Carolina, Owens played five seasons (1971–1976) in the American Basketball Association and seven seasons (1976–1983) in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Carolina Cougars, Memphis Pros, Memphis Sounds, Spirits of St. Louis, Indiana Pacers, Kentucky Colonels, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Detroit Pistons.  He scored 9,898 points and grabbed 5,985 rebounds in his ABA/NBA career.
Late in his career, Owens was involved in one of the most one-sided trades in NBA history.  After the 1980–81 season, the Blazers traded him to the Pacers and got the Pacers' 1984 draft pick in return.  Owens was traded to the Pistons after the season and retired a year later.  Four years later, the Pacers finished with the worst record in the Eastern Conference.  However, because of the trade, the Pacers were left as bystanders in one of the deepest drafts ever, featuring such future stars as Michael Jordan, Sam Bowie, Hakeem Olajuwon, Sam Perkins, Charles Barkley and John Stockton.  The pick acquired from Indiana turned out to be the one the Blazers famously used to select Bowie while Jordan was still available.
Owens was inducted into the University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.  He led the ACC in rebounding for all three years of his eligibility.  At that time, freshmen were not allowed to play on the varsity squad.  He scored the winning basket to give the Gamecocks their one and only ACC Tournament Championship in 1971. Owens has one son Thomas William Owens Jr that lives in Hilton Head South Carolina he was born on October 21, 1972.

Len Elmore

Leonard J. "Len" Elmore (born March 28, 1952) is an American sportscaster, lawyer and former National Basketball Association (NBA) player.
Elmore has served as a college basketball analyst for ESPN and Fox Sports and has served in the same capacity for CBS Sports' coverage of the NCAA Tournament and NBA.

Dave Robisch

David George Robisch (born December 22, 1949) is a retired American professional basketball player in the ABA and NBA.  Robisch played at the University of Kansas, where he was initiated into the Sigma Nu fraternity.  He was positioned at center and forward for the Denver Rockets/Denver Nuggets (1971–75 and 1980–83), Indiana Pacers (1975–76 and 1976–77), San Diego Sails (1976), Los Angeles Lakers (1977–79), Cleveland Cavaliers (1979–80), San Antonio Spurs (1983) and Kansas City Kings (1984).
He helped the Nuggets win the 1974–75 ABA Western Division.
On October 8, 1975 Robisch was part of one of the more infamous trades in ABA history.  The Baltimore Claws, despite financial problems, had obtained the rights to star Dan Issel from the Kentucky Colonels.  The Claws were unable to come through with the $500,000 they owed the Colonels for Issel.  Under pressure from the league, the Claws traded Issel to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Robisch and $500,000 (which was used to pay the Kentucky Colonels the money owed for Issel).
