List RulesOnly childrens films that were released (or wide released) in the United States in 2014

If you were taking your kids to the movies in 2014, there were a lot of films to choose from. We've narrowed it down to these movies in our best kids movies of 2014 list. The films featured on this list are perfectly appropriate for all ages, from young children to preteens.

The best films for kids are often animated, feature memorable musical numbers (who can forget "Everything is Awesome" from The Lego Movie?), and have minimal violence. These sorts of kid-friendly films can be tough to find, but in 2014 there were plenty of great options that were perfect for children and the whole family to watch together, whether in theaters, on DVD or streaming thru Netflix, Amazon and other VOD services.

Many of the kid movies released in 2014 consisted of sequels and other familiar stories (like How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Rio 2), as well as some films that introduced children to new favorite characters (like The Lego Movie and The Boxtrolls). There were also a lot of Disney movies in 2014 including great animated movies like Big Hero 6 and Planes: Fire and Rescue as well as great live-action Disney movies like Maleficent, Alex and the Terrible, Horrible No Good, Very Bad Day. In 2014, Disney even put out a documentary movie for kids (Bears) and helped distribute the final Hayao Miyazaki Studio Ghibli movie The Wind Rises. Now it's time to vote. Which are the best kids movies of 2014? Don't see a great kids movie on this list? Add it and let other movie fans and parents vote on it.
