What would a teenage/young adult television show or movie be without a mean girl? We need the villain in order to highlight the hero. Cady Heron is nothing without Regina George in Mean Girls. Sure, we hate the mean girl, but we also worship her in that love-to-hate sort of way. Here are the best mean girls in movies and TV.
There seems to be one fairly consistent trend among this storied list of mean girl characters. Many, if not all of them, are the queen bee of their respective group. It’s as if in order to lead, you have to be a bully. The standard operating procedure of bossy female characters is to be cruel to enemies, friends, and frenemies alike.
The mean female characters on this list are generally evil, malicious, selfish, and unfortunately, also attractive. They wear the trendiest designer clothes and have the Coach bags to match. Their hair is seemingly never out of place, and they can pull off gym uniform grays like a model during fashion week.
Some of the girls on this list are just commonly cruel and catty, but are otherwise harmless. They will even flash a sensitive side when no one is looking. But others are killers (literally) who will destroy anyone who stands in the way of what they want.
Be sure to make your voice heard and vote up your favorite mean girl characters.
Regina (Rachel McAdams), leader of the Plastics and high school queen bee, may be the definition of cruel. Her favorite past time is tarnishing the reputation of other students and teachers. She puts together a "burn book" filled with horrific rumors and career-ruining slander.
Perhaps this Gossip Girl quote from Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) sums up her character best? "There's only one queen b*tch in this town, and that's me." The Upper East Side lover of labels and headbands may have a tough-as-nails exterior, but she also possesses a deeply sensitive side... that she will do anything to hide.
Chanel (Emma Roberts) is everything you expect from a sorority president. She is the iron-fisted leader of KKT and will stop at nothing to stay at the top of the social food chain. The Greek goddess doesn't even bother to learn any of her sisters' names; instead, they are her "minions." She simply labels them Chanel #2, Chanel #4, etc.
Cruel Intentions is an adaptation of the novel Les Liaisons and a teenage re-imagining of the film Dangerous Liaisons. Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is the film's main bad girl. She finds it amusing to lie, scheme, and snort copious amounts of coke. Her favorite pastime is breaking other people's hearts through villainous manipulation.
Before her disappearance, Alison was the popular queen bee of her teenage clique. Her social status put her in prime position to blackmail, manipulate, lie, cheat, and even shove a girl down the steps at a frat party.
