Here are the best artists and bands from Mississippi. A largely rural state primarily known for the massive river bearing the same name, the Magnolia State has a rich history dating back to the founding of this country, and that legacy only becomes more storied when taking into account all of the notable musicians who have come from this great state. This the list of the most famous musical artists from Mississippi, and they are as varied and eclectic as the state itself. 

Numerous blues and country acts have come from Mississippi. Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker are just some of the names that put the state on the map. However, various rock and pop acts have also come out of Mississippi. Britney Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi. Before she took the world by storm, she sang in her local Baptist church. Little did all those people sitting in the pews know they were watching a future global superstar before their very eyes.
