The football program started in 1892 and has established itself as one of the most iconic names in sports. Alabama has won 15 national championships and those teams featured some of the best players in Crimson Tide history. Many of Alabama's greatest players went onto achieve success in the NFL, including future Pro Football Hall of Famers like John Hannah, Ozzie Newsome and Derrick Thomas. Surprisingly, with the school's rich history of having a roster full of outstanding players, curiously has only one Heisman Trophy in its cabinet. In 2009, Mark Ingram barely nudged past <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-stanford-cardinal-running-backs/ranker-college-football?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">Stanford running back</a> Toby Gerhart to take the trophy back to Tuscaloosa.&nbsp;In recent years, a good number of Alabama players have gone on to play in the NFL. Roger Thomas Staubach (born February 5, 1942), nicknamed "Roger the Dodger", "Captain America" and "Captain Comeback", is an American former football quarterback in the National Football League (NFL).
He attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he won the 1963 Heisman Trophy, and after graduation he served in the U.S. Navy, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Staubach joined the Dallas Cowboys in 1969 and played with the club during all 11 seasons of his career. He led the team to the Super Bowl five times, four as the starting quarterback. He led the Cowboys to victories in Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII. Staubach was named Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl VI, becoming the first of four players to win both the Heisman Trophy and Super Bowl MVP, along with Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen and Desmond Howard. He was named to the Pro Bowl six times during his 11-year NFL career. He is currently executive chairman of Jones Lang LaSalle.

Christopher Brandon McCoy (born November 25, 1986) is a former gridiron football defensive end. He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at Middle Tennessee State. McCoy played professional football for the Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL.

James Kubiak (born May 12, 1972) is a former professional football player and coach. He is currently the director of the WNY Quarterback Academy. Kubiak was the director of football operations and offensive coordinator for the Georgia Force of the Arena Football League. He is also a retired American and Arena football Quarterback. He was originally signed by the Carolina Panthers. He played college football at Navy.
During his career, Kubiak played for the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Barcelona Dragons, New York Jets, Buffalo Destroyers, Dallas Desperados, Detroit Fury, and Georgia Force.

After a tour of duty in Vietnam, he became head football coach at Lynchburg Baptist College (now called Liberty University) while attending seminary at the school in Virginia.  He then left football to start a church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that he has pastored for over three decades.
