From Dino Martin and George Mearns, who played just two years in the league, to Marvin Barnes and Joe Hassett, who played six years in the league, all the players born in Rhode Island have represented their state well at the professional level.

    Ernie Calverley

    Ernest A. Calverley (January 30, 1924 – October 20, 2003) was an American professional basketball player. He was an All-American while playing for the University of Rhode Island. He played professionally with the Providence Steamrollers of the Basketball Association of America for three seasons from 1946 to 1949.     Joseph Patrick "Joe" Hassett (born September 11, 1955) is a retired American basketball player in the NBA. A 6'5" (1.96 m) 180 lb (81.5 kg) guard, he played college basketball at Providence College, where he still shares a record with four other players to score at least 500 points in a season in three consecutive years. He also represented the US in the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City. Hassett was selected with the 8th pick in the third round (52nd overall) of the 1977 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics.
