Over 3.1K Ranker voters have come together to rank this list of The 20 Strongest Nen Abilities In 'Hunter X Hunter,' Ranked
In the world of Hunter x Hunter, characters use a panoply of incredible techniques that are widely referred to as Nen. These abilities include simple ones like Uvogin's Big Bang Impact, which lets him concentrate aura into his fist for a dramatically enhanced punch. However, they also include complex and creative moves like Knuckle Bine's A.P.R. and I.R.S., which will basically destroy you with the power of the economy.
These are some of the best Nen techniques to appear in the 2011 anime series. Hardhitters like Gon's Limitation Transformation and Meruem's Aura Synthesis will make an appearance, but there are some more obscure ones too. Which ones do you think are the greatest?
Though Alluka Zoldyck herself doesn't use any Nen, she is possessed by a being called Nanika (also translated as 'Something') who has a peculiar wish-granting ability. Nanika makes requests of people. Once three of those requests are fulfilled, she can grant any wish. Depending on the nature and complexity of the wish, the next set of requests - which are asked of the next person to make a wish - can be anything from asking for a pat on the head to asking for somebody's brain. If the requests aren't fulfilled, the person being asked will pass away, and so will the person closest to them. If the wishes are more significant, many more people will pass away as well, beginning with the person the would-be wisher spends the most time with and fanning out towards anyone who is even remotely connected to them. This Nen ability is ridiculously strong, but it can easily fly completely out of control.
Meruem is the king of the Chimera Ant, which makes him one of the most powerful figures in the entire series. His ability, Aura Synthesis, is basically a much spookier version of what Nintendo's Kirby can do. By devouring a target, he can absorb whatever Nen abilities they possessed and use them for himself. He doesn't have to completely consume them - Youpi and Shaiapouf are still alive after he takes their powers - but most targets don't survive this process.
As the chairman of the Hunter Association, Netero's best techniques are some of the best in existence - though sadly, even his strongest technique wasn't enough to defeat Meruem without resorting to the Poor Man's Rose bomb. But that just proves how out of control Meruem's powers were - most wouldn't stand a chance against the 100 Type Guanyin Bodhisattva.
With this technique, Netero summons a giant Buddha with multiple arms that are able to strike thousands of times per minute thanks to Netero's immense speed. The technique isn't just fast, it's also incredibly strong - it was able to push Neferpitou away by a large distance, which is a pretty major accomplishment.
Gon's Limitation Transformation is pretty much the most terrifying thing that happens in Hunter x Hunter, but it's also a ridiculously effective Nen technique. By forming a vow, Gon was able to concentrate all of the power he would ever have throughout his entire life into a single moment. He did this out of desperation, grief, and a desire for revenge when he found out that Neferpitou could not heal Kite. This allowed him to defeat the seemingly unbeatable Royal Guard, but nearly destroyed his body and took away his ability to use Nen. Luckily, he was healed by a wish from Alluka and did not have to suffer such permanent consequences.
One of the most useful Nen abilities in the world of HxH belongs to Chrollo Lucilfer, the leader of the Phantom Troupe. Chrollo's ability, Skill Hunter, allows him to collect and use Nen techniques that he stole from other people. He keeps these abilities trapped in a book called Bandit's Secret. There are a number of limitations on the ability, such as how difficult it is to get a technique in the first place, the fact that he can only use one Nen skill at a time, and the fact that a technique disappears when the original owner passes away. Despite those limits, it's still a highly versatile and useful technique. In the anime, we see him use several stolen techniques, including Indoor Fish - a skeletal fish that survives in sealed rooms and eats human flesh, and Lovely Ghostwriter, which allows him to predict the future.
KIllua's Godspeed looks like it's just a super speed technique, but it's actually more complex than that. It allows him to automate his reaction time using electricity, bypassing the limitations of his nervous system and preventing him from hesitating. It helps him move incredibly quickly - 149.1 mph! - and it also allows him to use his electricity for offensive purposes.
