Individually and collectively, these motion pictures take us to dark places that we couldn't - and probably wouldn't - want to go otherwise. Getting a peek at the criminal lifestyle from a safe perspective offers a cinematic rush like no other. Oftentimes, such films remind us that good can triumph over evil, too.
As a testament to how strong modern crime movies are, just look at the caliber of talent they attract. Major stars have signed on because they know these can be powerful stories worth telling.
