This is a list of the best New York Jets of all time. Originally called the Titans, the New York Jets took part in two of the AFL's biggest moments before the merger of the two leagues in 1970. First, the Jets were able to lure one of the best players in franchise history to them in 1965. Joe Namath is still considered one of the best Jets ever nearly 50 years after he took his first snaps as quarterback. Curtis Martin, Darrelle Revis, Don Maynard and Mark Gastineau are all considered some of the best Jets ever. These players are either in the Pro Football Hall of Fame or are considered some of the best players at their positions. Mo Lewis

Morris "Mo" Clyde Lewis III (born October 21, 1969) is a former American football linebacker who played in the National Football League for 13 seasons and spent the entirety of his career with the New York Jets. Although Lewis had a productive career, he is best known for injuring New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe, which resulted in Tom Brady becoming the team's starter.

David Harris

David Charles Harris (born January 21, 1984) is a former American football linebacker of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Michigan. Harris was drafted by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

Marvin Jones

Marvin Maurice Jones (born June 28, 1972) is an American former professional football player who was a middle linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for eleven seasons during the 1990s and early 2000s. Jones played college football for Florida State Seminoles and was recognized as an All-American twice.  He was drafted in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and he played his entire professional career for the Jets. In 2018, Jones was the head coach for the Cedar Rapids Titans in the Indoor Football League (IFL).

Kyle Clifton

Kyle Clifton (born Ronald Kyle Clifton on August 23, 1962) is a former American football linebacker who played 13 seasons in the National Football League for the New York Jets. Clifton was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1984 NFL draft, the 64th overall draft pick. 
Clifton led the NFL in solo tackles with 160 in 1985, 174 in 1986 and 162 in 1988. Additionally, he was in the top 10 of NFL solo tacklers in 1984, 85, 86, 88, 89, 1990 and 1991. Clifton made 1,484 tackles over the course of his professional career ranking him 10th overall in NFL history as of January 2019. At his retirement in 1996 Clifton was the 2nd leading tackler in NFL history and remains the Jets all-time leading tackler.  Clifton attended high school in Bridgeport, Texas.

Bart Scott

Bartholomew Edward Scott (born August 18, 1980) is a former American football player and current radio personality. Scott was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for eleven seasons. After playing college football for Southern Illinois University, he was signed by the NFL's Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2002. Scott was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2006. After playing his first seven years with Ravens, Scott signed with New York Jets in 2009. He would play his final four seasons for the Jets.He was employed as an NFL analyst for CBS television from 2013 to 2017. Scott is currently employed as the co-host of a sports talk radio show on WFAN in New York City.

Victor Hobson

Victor Brian Hobson (born February 3, 1980) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) and an executive producer for Global Entertainment. He was drafted in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, for whom he played from 2003 to 2007. He played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals of the NFL In 2008. Hobson played college football at the University of Michigan.

Lance Mehl

Lance Alan Mehl (born February 14, 1958) is a former professional American football player. He played eight seasons for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL), from 1980 to 1987. He was an All-American at Pennsylvania State University.
He was selected by the Jets in the third round (#69 overall) of the 1980 NFL Draft. He was named to the Pro Bowl in (1985).
Mehl was the leading tackler for the unbeaten 1978 Nittany Lion team. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts Education from Penn State University in 1980.
Mehl was a three-sport team captain at Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Ohio in football, baseball, and basketball.  
Today, Mehl is retired from working to help troubled youth. He is the father of four sons: Lance Jr, Lucas, Logan, and Layne.  Lance's mother Beulah  was the sister of Charles Meadows and William Meadows, both now deceased. they all grew up in south eastern Ohio. As for grandchildren Lance has 10. His sons, Lance jr who is married to Jessica Romel have 4 kids. Lucas who is married to Melissa Mehl have 4 kids. Logan who is married to Cheryl Mehl have 2 kids. Layne who is married to Lauren Mehl have no kids.
According to Lance Mehl's 1984 Topps football card #153 Lance was the Jets leading interceptor in 1983. Lance is perhaps the club's most consistent defensive player. Recorded 10 tackles in 44-17 playoff win at Cincinnati Jan-9th-1983 As a bit of "Did You Know" the card said "Lance once worked in the coal mines of Ohio"  In 1985, he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl.
Mehl wore the number #56 while playing for the New York Jets.
In 2012,  Mehl testified as a character witness on behalf of former coach Jerry Sandusky, calling him, "a class act."  However, in a later interview, he said, "no doubt, if coach Sandusky is truly guilty of these crimes, he must be punished...and punished severely." Sandusky was later found guilty of 45 felony charges related to child rape and child endangerment.

Greg Buttle

Gregory Ellis Buttle (born June 20, 1954 in Atlantic City, New Jersey) is a retired American football linebacker for the New York Jets. He played college football at Penn State University. He was named a Consensus All-American in 1975. In 2005, he was inducted into the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame.

James Farrior

James Alfred Farrior  (born January 6, 1975) is a former American football linebacker who played fifteen seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Virginia. He played with the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and earned two Super Bowl rings with the Steelers (XL and XLIII).

Bryan Cox

Bryan Keith Cox (born February 17, 1968) is an American football coach and former player.  His most recent position was as the defensive line coach for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL).  He played college football for Western Illinois University, a small college football program, but received attention for his aggressive style of play.  Although Cox was a relatively late fifth-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 1991 NFL Draft, he rose to prominence as a standout linebacker during his twelve NFL seasons from 1991 through 2002.  He was a three-time pro bowler with the Miami Dolphins, and was also a member of the New England Patriots club that won Super Bowl XXXVI.

Al Atkinson

Allen Edward Atkinson (born July 28, 1943) is a former American football linebacker who played in the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL). He played high school ball at Monsignor Bonner High School. He played college football at Villanova University, where he was a linebacker.  He played professionally in the AFL for the New York Jets from 1965 through 1969; then for the NFL Jets 1970 through 1974.  He was a member of the Jets' 1968 World Championship team, and an American Football League All-Star in 1968.

Eric Barton

Eric Barton (born September 29, 1977) is a former American football linebacker who played for twelve seasons in the National Football League. He played college football at Maryland before he was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He played for the Raiders from 1999–2003, the New York Jets from 2004–2008, and the Cleveland Browns from 2009–2010.

Bryan Thomas

Bryan Thomas (born June 7, 1979) is a former American football linebacker and defensive end. He was drafted by the New York Jets 22nd overall in the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Calvin Pace

Calvin Lamar Pace (born October 28, 1980) is a former American football outside linebacker of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the first round (18th overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Wake Forest.

Bob Crable

Robert Edward Crable (born September 22, 1959) is an American former college and professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons during the 1980s.  He played college football for the University of Notre Dame, and twice earned consensus All-American honors.  A first-round pick in the 1982 NFL Draft, he played professionally for the NFL's New York Jets.

Stan Blinka

Stanley John Blinka (born April 29, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the fifth round of the 1979 NFL Draft. He was the middle linebacker for the NY Jets through the 1983 season.  He was their leading tackler in 1979 and 1980.  He was named to the AFC All Rookie Team in 1979. He played college football at Sam Houston State. He also played one season in the United States Football League, with the Denver Gold, in 1985.
He was honored as a Distinguished Alumni at Sam Houston State University in 2015.  While at Sam Houston State he was named to the Lone Star Conference team 3 times,
the Lone Star Conference Team of the 1970s decade and the Lone Star Conference 75th Anniversary Team. He holds his college records for most tackles in a game (24), season (211), and career (536). He was a dual sport athlete as he also lettered in Track and Field.
He was a NAIA All American, former SHSU school discus record holder and Lone Star Conference All Academic Team.
He met and married Kathy Steele Blinka in 1978 while at Sam Houston State.  They have two children, Kyle Louis Blinka and Clinton Steele Blinka. They have 5 grandchildren.
He retired from football in 1985 and began a career as a tax accountant in Houston, Texas.  In 1987, he purchased an Interstate Battery distributorship in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has been the owner/operator for 30 years.

Mark Brown

Jeffrey David Lageman (born July 18, 1967), is a former American football player and current sports commentator. He played college football for the University of Virginia Cavaliers and was signed as a defensive end by the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL) in the first round of the 1989 NFL Draft. In 1994, he was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars; he retired after an injury in 1998. Though considered small for a defensive lineman, he distinguished himself on the field, recording a total of 47 career quarterback sacks. Following his retirement from sports he went into sports broadcasting in Jacksonville, Florida.
