This is a list of the best Oakland Raiders of all time. The Silver and Black. Just Win, Baby. These are just a few of the phrases associated with what was once the most intimidating team in all off football: the Oakland / Los Angeles Raiders. When Al Davis took over the team in 1962, a new style of football was formed. The greatest Raiders players blended speed and power, a new dimension to player evaluation introduced by Davis. Famous Oakland Raiders like Ken Stabler, Cliff Branch, and Fred Biletnikoff are some of the best Raiders skill players while Gene Upshaw, Art Shell, and Jim Otto were powerful linemen whose grit allowed for these superstars to flourish.&nbsp;

Lester Hayes

Lester Craig Hayes (born January 22, 1955) is a former professional American football player for the Oakland / Los Angeles Raiders of the National Football League (NFL).
Hayes was commonly referred to as "the Judge" and also as "Lester the Molester" because of his bump and run coverage. He had a distinct stance, crouching very low when facing the opposing wide receiver. He was also known for using Stickum before it was banned in 1981 by a rule bearing his name.

Willie Brown

William Ferdie Brown (born December 2, 1940) is an American football executive and former player and coach.  He played as a cornerback for the Denver Broncos and the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). Following his playing career, Brown remained with the Raiders as an assistant coach.  He served as the head football coach at California State University, Long Beach in 1991, the final season before the school's football program was terminated.  Brown was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1984.  He is currently on the administrative staff of the Raiders.

Charles Woodson

Charles Cameron Woodson (born October 7, 1976) is a former American football player. He played college football for Michigan, where he led the Wolverines to a share of the national championship in 1997. Woodson, a "two-way player" who played both offense and defense, won the Heisman Trophy in the same year. To date, he is the only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman, and he is the most recent player to win the Heisman who was not either a running back or quarterback. Woodson went on to accomplish a storied career professionally with one of the most decorated professional football resumes of all time, considered by many of his peers to be one of the greatest defensive players to have ever played. 
Woodson was drafted by the Oakland Raiders fourth overall in the 1998 NFL Draft. In his first season with Oakland, Woodson was selected as the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press. He was named to the Pro Bowl and earned All-Pro recognition three consecutive times (1999–2001).  In a 2002 AFC playoff match against the New England Patriots, Woodson seemed to have clinched the game by forcing a fumble by sacking quarterback (and former Michigan teammate) Tom Brady, but the ruling was overturned. Woodson later battled several nagging injuries in consecutive seasons in Oakland, leading to his departure after the 2005 NFL season via free agency.On April 26, 2006, Woodson signed a seven-year, $52 million contract with the Green Bay Packers. He would later win Super Bowl XLV with the team over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his first season in Green Bay, Woodson was the team's punt returner and led the National Football Conference with eight interceptions, surpassing his previous career high of five, in his rookie year. In his second season in Green Bay, the injury problems returned and Woodson was forced to sit out two games. He was the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the 2009 NFL season. He returned to the Raiders in 2013, playing three more seasons and once more being voted to the Pro Bowl. Woodson is one of the few players in NFL history to play in a Pro Bowl in three different decades (1990s, 2000s, 2010s). He is currently tied for fifth on the all time interceptions list with 65, and is tied with Rod Woodson and Darren Sharper for most career defensive touchdowns with 13. He also is second all time in interceptions returned for touchdowns, with 11.
After he retired in 2015, he signed with ESPN in 2016.

Nnamdi Asomugha

Nnamdi Asomugha ( NAHM-dee AH-səm-wah; born July 6, 1981) is a Nigerian-American actor, producer and former American football cornerback. He played college football for the University of California, Berkeley, and was drafted in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. For many years he was considered one of the best shutdown corners in the NFL. In his 11-year career, he was voted All-Pro four times, including two times to the first team. Asomugha was selected as a member of the Fox Sports's and USA Today's NFL All-Decade Team 2000s and is considered one of the greatest Oakland Raiders of all time.Asomugha received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Carl King in the film Crown Heights (2017). He was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male and he was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. Variety named him one of the seven breakout performers of 2017.

Mike Haynes

Michael James Haynes (born July 1, 1953) is a former American football player in the National Football League who played as a cornerback for the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Raiders. He used his speed, quickness and range to become both a premier defensive back and an outstanding punt return specialist. Haynes was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997.

Rod Woodson

Roderick Kevin Woodson (born March 10, 1965) is a former American football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 17 seasons. He had a 10-year stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a key member of the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV championship team that beat the New York Giants. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders, wearing the jersey number 26 throughout his career. He holds the NFL record for fumble recoveries (32) by a defensive player, and interceptions returned for touchdown (12), and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1993. His 71 career interceptions is the third-most in NFL history. He was an inductee of the Class of 2009 of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on August 8, 2009. Woodson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2016. Rod played most of his career as a cornerback then switched to safety during the later part of his career.
From his retirement in 2003 to February 2011, Woodson worked as an analyst for the NFL Network (on NFL Total Access and Thursday Night Football) and for the Big Ten Network. He spent the 2011 season as the Raiders' cornerbacks coach. He then returned to broadcasting, working for Westwood One as an analyst on college football (2012) and the NFL (2013) before resuming his coaching career in 2014.

Eric Allen

Eric Andre Allen (born November 22, 1965) is an American football coach and former cornerback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, and Oakland Raiders from 1988 to 2001.  A six-time Pro Bowl selection, Allen retired from football after the 2001 season and is currently an NFL analyst for Pac-12 Networks.  In his NFL career, he recorded 54 interceptions for 827 yards and eight touchdowns, while also recovering seven fumbles.  His 54 interceptions ties him for 21st in NFL history. He now lives in San Diego, California with his wife Lynn and his children Austin, Hunter, Jordan, and Noah.
In 2019, he served as the defensive backs coach for the San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football (AAF).

Terry McDaniel

Terence Lee McDaniel (born February 8, 1965) is a former American football player who played 11 seasons in the National Football League, mostly with the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders.  A 5'10", 180-pound cornerback, he played college football at the University of Tennessee, and was selected in the first round (9th overall) of the 1988 NFL Draft.
A five-time Pro Bowl selection from 1992 to 1996, McDaniel had 35 career interceptions for 667 yards and 6 touchdowns. His five interceptions returned for touchdowns over his career with the Raiders are a team record.  His 34 interceptions are the third-highest in franchise history, and his 624 return yards are the second-highest.

Ronnie Lott

Ronald Mandel Lott (born May 8, 1959) is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback, free safety, and strong safety in the National Football League (NFL) for fourteen seasons during the 1980s and 1990s.
Lott played college football for the University of Southern California (USC), and was honored as a consensus All-American.  A first-round pick in the 1981 NFL Draft, he played for the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Raiders, New York Jets, and Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL. Lott was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000, and is widely considered to be one of the best of all time at the safety position in NFL history and one of the best players in NFL history.

Claude Gibson

Claude "Hoot" Gibson (born May 26, 1939) is a former American football player and coach.  A defensive back and kick returner, he played college football at North Carolina State University, and professionally in the American Football League (NFL) for the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders.

Skip Thomas

Alonzo "Skip" Thomas (February 7, 1950 – July 24, 2011), a.k.a. "Dr. Death", was an American football cornerback who played in the National Football League.

Lionel Washington

Lionel Washington (born October 21, 1960 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is the Defensive Coordinator and Cornerbacks coach of the Southern Jaguars football team since 2018.  He is an American retired cornerback who played fifteen seasons in the National Football League.  Washington attended Tulane University.
Washington was a nicklebacks/cornerbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers from 1999 to 2008. He was let go after a disappointing 2008 season. Before the 2009 season the Oakland Raiders hired him to be their defensive secondary coach. In 2011 Washington became Defensive Backs Coach of the United Football League's Virginia Destroyers.  In 2012, he was named co-Defensive Coordinator of the Tulane Green Wave football team.Washington is the father of Deron Washington, a professional basketball player who was selected in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft.

David Amerson

David Amerson (born December 8, 1991) is an American football cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played college football at North Carolina State University.

Fred Williamson

Frederick Robert Williamson (born March 5, 1938), also known as The Hammer, is an American actor and former professional American football defensive back who played mainly in the American Football League during the 1960s. Williamson is perhaps best known for his film career; starring as Tommy Gibbs in the 1973 crime drama film Black Caesar and its sequel Hell Up in Harlem. Williamson also had other notable roles in other 1970s blaxploitation films such as; Hammer (1972), That Man Bolt (1973) and Three the Hard Way (1974).

Stanford Routt

Stanford Bermond Routt (born July 26, 1983) is a former American football cornerback. After playing college football for Houston, he was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played for the Raiders for seven seasons from 2005 to 2011. He also played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans.

Tracy Porter

Tracy O'Neil Porter  (born August 11, 1986) is a former American football cornerback. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. With the Saints, he won Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts, sealing the game with a memorable interception returned for a touchdown. He played college football at Indiana.
Porter also played for the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins, and Chicago Bears.

Nemiah Wilson

Nemiah Wilson (born April 6, 1943) was an American football player. A defensive back, he played college football at Grambling State University, and played professionally in the American Football League (AFL) for the Denver Broncos from 1965 through 1967, and then for the AFL's Oakland Raiders in 1968 and 1969, and for the Raiders and Chicago Bears in the National Football League (NFL). He was the oldest American Football League All-Star in 1967.

Albert Lewis

Albert Ray Lewis (born October 6, 1960) is a former American football player who played in the National Football League for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders. Lewis is a father of three children all of which played or currently play sports in college; his son Julian Lewis is a former defensive back for the University of New Mexico.

Michael Huff

Michael Wayne Huff, II (born March 6, 1983) is a former American football safety.  He last played for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Texas, and was recognized as a consensus All-American and the top college defensive back.  He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders with the seventh overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, and has played for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos.

Kent McCloughan

Kent Auburn McCloughan (born February 12, 1940) is a former football player and scout. He played cornerback for the American Football League's Oakland Raiders from 1965 through 1969, and for the National Football League's Raiders in 1970, but his career ended early because of a devastating knee injury.
With Willie Brown, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he is considered to be the originator or one of the earliest proficient exponents of Bump and run coverage, by which a defensive back impedes progress of the wide receiver by body contact, a style that was followed by later Oakland cornerbacks, such as Lester Hayes. The strategy appeared so successful in the eyes of NFL rule-makers that, to help the offense, the rules were changed in 1974, 1977, and 1978, with each rule change favoring the receiver over the defender (see Penalty (American football).) 
In 1974, the most severe rule change regarding pass receivers and defenders was enacted. This rule stipulated that a player could only make contact one time beyond 3 yards of the line of scrimmage. 
In 1977, the rule was amended to aid the pass receivers yet again. Starting that season, a defender could only make contact with a receiver one time overall, whether it be within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage or further downfield. 
In 1978, the rule was amended to aid the pass receivers yet again. Starting that season, a defender could make contact with a receiver only one time, and within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. If the defender made contact with a receiver 6 yards or more from the line of scrimmage, it was now considered pass interference, even if the ball was not yet in the air.
A native of Broken Bow, Nebraska, McCloughan established a Nebraska state record (21.4 sec) in the 220 yard dash in 1961, which stood until Kenzo Cotton broke it in 2012.

Phillip Buchanon

Phillip Darren Buchanon (born September 19, 1980) is former American football cornerback that played in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Miami, and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft. Buchanon also played for the Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, and Washington Redskins before retiring after the 2011 season.

Tory James

Tory Steven James (born May 18, 1973) is a former American football cornerback who played eleven seasons in the National Football League (NFL).James attended Archbishop Shaw High School before going to college at Louisiana State University, and was originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft.  His career was endangered by a serious knee injury suffered in the first preseason game of the 1997 season.  James tore the patellar tendon in his right knee and missed the entire season. The Broncos were the NFL champions of the 1998 season after winning Super Bowl XXXIII against the Atlanta Falcons.
In the  1999 season, after he accumulated 33 tackles and five interceptions, the Broncos made no effort to re-sign James.  He then signed with the Oakland Raiders as an unrestricted free agent, signing a five-year, $18 million contract.  However, after the 2002 season, the Raiders (after eight interceptions in three years) left James unprotected again, and he signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
On January 6, 2001, during the Raiders' divisional playoff game against the Miami Dolphins, James made a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown, and the Raiders beat the Dolphins 27-0 in Oakland.2004 proved to be James' best professional season, as he intercepted eight passes, notched 56 tackles, and forced two fumbles.  He was voted onto the AFC Pro Bowl squad.
On February 9, 2007 Bengals coach Marvin Lewis indicated that James will not be resigned.  He was signed by the New England Patriots on April 17, 2007.  James was cut by the Patriots on September 9, 2007.

Fabian Washington

Fabian Washington (born June 9, 1983) is a former American football cornerback. He played college football at Nebraska and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders 23rd overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. Washington also played with the Baltimore Ravens.

DeAngelo Hall

DeAngelo Eugene Hall (born November 19, 1983) is a former American football defensive back who played 14 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Virginia Tech and was drafted with the eighth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. A cornerback for the majority of his playing career, he transitioned to free safety towards the end of his tenure with the Washington Redskins. Hall also played half a season for the Oakland Raiders.
Hall was invited to three Pro Bowls in his career: two with the Falcons and one with the Redskins. In 2010, he tied an NFL record by recording four interceptions in a game against the Chicago Bears. He also holds the NFL record for most fumble return yardage in a career, while his five career fumble return touchdowns ranks second behind Jason Taylor. Following his playing career, he began working as an on-air analyst for NBC Sports Washington, Fox Sports 1, and NFL Network.
