Since 1995, award-winning nature photographer and documentarian Paul Nicklen has specialized in capturing animal life in some of the least hospitable spots on planet, including Antarctica. Nicklen's background as a biologist and his childhood among the Inuit, along with his masterful eye and reverence for the fragility and beauty of nature, are cited by National Geographic - a frequent collaborator - as just a few reasons he's one of the best nature photographers in the world.
The best of Paul Nicklen's Instagram, collected in the gallery below, are some of the most amazing nature pictures you can find on the web. From battle-scarred polar bears to adorable newborn seals to mind-boggling shots of the aurora borealis, Nicklen's 'gram gets you about as close to these natural landscapes as you can without being there in the flesh.

Thank you President @BarackObama on behalf of all species that live in the Arctic. It is a very bright day as President Obama and his administration just protected 115 million acres of the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas from oil and gas exploration indefinitely. More over, Prime Minister Trudeau has announced that it will freeze oil and gas offshore leasing in Canadian Arctic waters. Walrus are incredibly sensitive to any noise disturbance. Oil and gas exploration would displace narwhals, bowhead whales, walrus, seals, belugas and many other species from their migratory corridors. An oil spill in the Arctic would be a fatal blow to this habitat that is already threatened due to climate change. @whitehouse #gratitude #nature #10by2020 #stopclimatechange #arctic #renewableenergy #climatechangeisreal #instagood #wisdom #oneearth #oneocean268Is this a great photo?
Happy Holidays! Thank you everyone for all of your generous support of @sea_legacy. There is so much work ahead on behalf of our oceans. For me, during this week, it is a time to reflect on this journey through life and give thanks. I am grateful for friends, grateful for my fellow photographers and conservation heroes and most of all I am grateful for unforgettable moments in nature. I am also grateful to have spent time with sled dogs. I do not know what it is about huskies but they steal my heart every time. @sea_legacy and @natgeopristineseas #husky #dogs #dog #pets #nature #animals #cute #beauty @thephotosociety #follow #puppy #tbt #naturelovers192Is this a great photo?
Newborn Antarctic Fur Seal Pup
A newborn Antarctic fur seal pup perches himself on top of a mound of tussock grass. The majority of Antarctic fur seals are born brown but approximately one in several thousand are born with white fur. Fur seals possess one of the highest degrees of sexual dimorphism of any mammalian species with males weighing up to five times greater than females. #seals #nature #beauty #animals #cute #picoftheday #instagramhub #photooftheday #naturelovers170Is this a great photo?
